Dennis Lillee heads to Viva Restaurant

"While we waited for our food we shared some delicious Italian bread with garlic and herbs and in no time our entrée was served. Our friend chose Nonna’s Famous Meatballs cooked in a tomato and basil sauce, served with grilled polenta. This dish can only be described as “gutsy” and would suffice for a main dish. It was enjoyed with gusto. At $14 it is excellent value. We shared an entrée of crispy shallow fried calamari served on a bed of rocket and parmesan salad with lemon wedges and tartare sauce. Again, a huge serving (at $14.50) and we were pleased we’d decided to share. The calamari was perfectly cooked, crispy and deliciously tender inside but not greasy - the peppery flavour of the rocket salad juxtaposed the slightly salty flavour of the calamari."

Brauny & Glassy head to the Firehouse

"To start, Glassy, Alicia and myself all had the Sesame crumbed prawns and calamari ($15) served with salad and was delicious. Bree had the tasting plate ($14) which consisted of Kangaroo (very tender), Chorizo Sausage, crumbed mushrooms and chicken meatballs. We all helped Bree out with the tasting plate as there was ample there for it to be shared around. We also started with a serve of garlic bread which was very tasty as well!"

Gratzi Cafe by EatingWA

"I definitely suggest sharing entrees here if you have any hope of fitting the mains in, and for those game enough, a dessert after that. We ordered a great tasting plate which came out on a stand that allowed very easy access (I'm usually pretty clumsy and useless) and had all the Italian delicacies you would expect. All the freshest and tastiest, so it was easy to tell that Gratzi spends time sourcing the best ingredients."

Lamont's Margaret River Conversations with Kate Lamont

After attending this identical event up here in East Perth, I can only imagine how much fun it would be heading down south and trying it out with this sexy new menu in the serene surroundings at Lamont's Margaret River with a midday start.

Venison prosciutto, lemongrass chili prawns, potato gnocchi, pork belly, grilled scallops, marinated lamb and baked custard apple are just a few parts of the 6 course menu coming from the kitchen of one of Western Australia's best chefs.

I can personally guarantee this event will be well worth the effort of heading down to Margaret River for the day or even the weekend.

August Competition Winners

Sorry for the late newsletter, team. We have taken a bit of a holiday but are now back and refreshed and ready to get fat again with Perth's great food and wine.

As for the prizes, we will be issuing these next week, along with the September prize winners and first October newsletter.

I have written some guidelines for submitting reviews that everyone will have to agree to have read the next time they submit a review. Please read these thoroughly, as 50% of the reviews submitted do not make it to the website because of various reasons.

These guidelines will be implemented and available for view by next week's newsletter.
