I have eaten at 150 East several times, for dinners, work lunches and the like.

I have had one particularly bad experience, when they had a wedding in the back room, and basically forgot the rest of their dinners, I was so annoyed I wrote/emailed/faxed a complaint letter, but got no response, a friend had given us a $100 voucher and I felt it had been wasted.

However I really really really wanted to like this place, I love the location and I have never faulted the food, just the service, in the case with the wedding, they were understaffed and had inexperienced staff on, which didnt help matters!

I went back last week for a girls lunch, we all ordered the Roma Tomato Soup and it was absolutely delish and well priced at $12.

Service:

Its improving, but can still be lax at times.

Ambience:

Its fantastic, the decor is wonderful, and all moveable so quiet often they move things around, which I like. I actually commented to my fiance that I feel as though I'm in Sydney or Melbourne when we are at 150 East....I love it.

Overall:
One bad experience but I am glad I went back, I do like this place and they have redeemed themselves in my eyes. I live locally so really wanted a great place 'around the corner' The food is wonderful and has never been an issue. Im going to add it to my Favourites list !

Let me start by saying that 150 East used to be one of my favourite restaurants (since its opening) but unfortunately this was shattered after a horrible lunch there yesterday for my friends birthday.

Food - I think that the chef was trying too hard. I had the mezze plate & pretty much left everything on it but the chicken skewers. Way too many rich non-complementary flavours were attempted on one plate with a cold mussel 'salad', overly dry fish cakes, warm but not cooked properly chorizo along with stodgy polenta & poached (bland) pork belly. Nothing was consistent on that plate; it just made me wish I hadn't bothered. I was disappointed further with my white chocolate mousse which was not light & fluffy, more like cheese cake texture with very little flavour.

Service - oh dear! Where do I start?! With the pleasant waitress who dithered here there but not enough anywhere near the table or the aggressive supervisor who severely lacked customer service skills. Hmmm. Perhaps if our food had been delivered together instead of staggered over 15 minutes or if the plates had been cleared before the next course (where one guest held their empty entree plate aloft whilst the waitress served the mains she was holding first before clearing) then had to request bottles of water let alone dessert & coffee at the end! Disappointed indeed & not what you would expect from a 5-star restaurant.

Price - normally wouldn't have a problem with the menu prices had the food been what we were expecting but as there were many disgruntled, I'd say we paid too much.

Ambience - Loved the layout of the restaurant particularly the private booths however on a hot day like yesterday, they should keep the doors to the deck shut to stop hot blasts of air & wayward flies. A great idea to have a piano man but his electric piano was turned up too loud & disrupted our conversation. Yes we know your there sir but we came to eat & catch-up, not attend your personal concert. Restaurant has lots of potential & has certainly grown in character since last visit. Was a shame the service & food let them down.

Definitely not in a hurry to return & I was not even game to enter my business card into their competition for a $50 meal voucher. I think that says it all.

We chose 150 East for a catch-up dinner with friends on a recent Thursday evening. The river view is wasted at night time but the restaurant is very tastefully decorated and I liked the candle lanterns in the middle of each table (although we did ask the waitress to remove it once the food arrived as it really got in the way).

We ordered drinks whilst waiting for our friends and settled into our comfortable chairs (I love a chair with arms). When they arrived we ordered some wine and ooh’ed and aah’ed over the menu. We couldn’t decide on a starter so the waitress’ suggestion of pizza bread was much appreciated. I think what surprised me the most about the restaurant was the level of service. It has been a long time since I have experienced attention to detail and such attentive, knowledgeable and happy staff.

The pizza bread was really tasty and a great choice. We ordered a bottle of Ironwood Chardonnay and settled in to wait for our entrees. I ordered the soufflé on the recommendation of the waitress and was I glad that I did. It was divine and the mushrooms (which I don’t normally eat but I was assured that they were a garnish and I would not have to eat them) and semi dried tomatoes were also consumed with relish. My husband did think that the dukkah encrusted scallops was a bit much, the dukkah easily overpowering the delicate taste of the scallops. Our friends thoroughly enjoyed their entrees also (a prawn dish and a soup). The two guys chose the special for mains (scotch fillet) and I chose the Pork Belly with Scallops which was just lovely. We were all really happy with our meals and thought they were great. Perfectly cooked, a great balance of flavours and wonderful presentation.

Some found room for dessert while others settled for coffee. We were some of the last patrons to leave the restaurant and we all declared that we would definitely be returning.

I could see why thecatswhiskers likes this place so much and I am now a fellow devotee.

As a rule, I only review a restaurant once unless something has changed or it has been a long time since reviews. This also would include breakfast vs lunch/dinner and that is what has induced me to type again about this restaurant. This is after all one of my favourite places and I visit fairly often.

As my brother and his family were up from the country for the long weekend in June, and their calendar being chockas most of the time, it seemed the only we way we were going to catch up was at breakfast before they left Perth. They agreed to come over my way for a change and so I met them and my mother at 150 East in Belmont. (Gee it was nice to not have to drive very far to meet someone for a change!)

Two things unimpressed me as I waited to be seated at our booked table (and no, the lengthy wait for attention wasn't it!); one, a public holiday surcharge and two, no Entertainment Card discounts allowed. I found this to be a rather hefty surcharge and one I won't forget - I won't be back on the days they do that! (My brother was paying though and he didn't seemed concerned but then he also forgets that I can get the discount.)

Once seated, I still had to wait for the rest of the family so after initially seeing if I wanted anything while I waited, the wait staff left me alone to take in the view of the river and Great Eastern Highway.

The breakfast menu has all the usual suspects from continental breakfast to pancakes to full cooked brekkies. The adults were all easily pleased and ready to order but there was a fair bit of hoo-ha with the kids as they wanted multiple meals each! The two eldest settled on pancakes with fruit and cream with the promise of sausages if they were still hungry at the end. The six year old though wanted cereal and apple juice from the continental breakfast, and only that but with a side serve of sausages. As the continental breakfast was going to cost $16.50 (with the surcharge), we tried to convince her that that was rather costly for a bowl of Rice Bubbles! The waitress though was very accommodating and offered my brother bottomless juice and the cereal for her at half-price.

The kids all enjoyed their meals (which included half a dozen sausages for them to share!) and the adults all enjoyed their Eggs Benedict. I, on the other hand, had ordered scrambled eggs with toast and an extra tomato. I don't know about anyone else but I like my scrambled eggs to be all fluffy and in little golden clumps, not like a flat omelette. I guess someone just forgot to stir the frypan but it wasn't very tasty. (As I was the only complainant at the table, I have only deducted half a star for the food.)

I would definitely go back here and would like to do breakfast again, although I won't order my eggs scrambled (and I now have reservations about their omelettes too). The restaurant was not busy at all but maybe a bit too full for their two waitresses or else they were trying to prepare for lunch a little bit too devotedly, as my mum had to chase up her coffee twice.

Popped in here for a solo lunch the other day without a booking. Despite a couple of functions, they were able to fit me in after a bit of confusion with a new staff member. Got a lovely table by the open window with a lovely vista.

As I have reviewed this restaurant a couple of times before, I really only wanted to comment on their new lunch menu, which I much more preferred to the last menu I was offered. I opted for the Japanese crumbed scallops and prawns with hand cut chips, tartare sauce and an additional garden salad. Brilliant dish, especially the prawns. Nicest chips and tartare sauce I have had in a while as well.

I admit to being very partial to this restaurant, but I really want to go back again after that meal.

We went for dinner just out of the blue last night. The service was fantastic. Even without a booking we managed to get a table for two but I would highly recommend booking.

The waitress was extremely helpful especially as I have a problem with certain foods. We started off with the veal carpriccio never had this before not too bad but it's definitely a required taste but it was nice with the blend of salad. I ended up changing around one of their dishes but they were happy to help. I had the fillet mignon which is served with garlic & chilli prawn (eeek) so had this removed but it also came with a potato crumble (yummo) and creamed spinach on top. The béarnaise sauce was just delish. My partner had the peppered sirloin and was just as happy with his choice.

The desserts sounded beautiful but we didn't have any room in our tummy's left so will have to go back to try them out another time.

Reading the previous reviews, we decided that the mezze is a must. Had the entree size ($17) which was made up of delightful bite size choices. The centrepiece was a scrumptious pumpkin dip with half a dozen thin toasts. Surrounding it were 3 types of meatballs (2each) arranged on spinach or coriander whereby one was interestingly, mussel meat. In one corner were 2 chicken sticks, a quiche & salmon stack (very delicious) and the opposite side an array of delights such as sun-dried tomatoes, cheese, salamis and an unidentifiable pumpkin/meat type item. Thought that they were all very good choices except perhaps they could have been more generous with the greens not to mention that the platter would have looked more attractive. Also, most of the items had specific sauces but none for the chicken sticks where a sweet chilli sauce would have enhanced it.

Service was very prompt and the girls were all very friendly. The only problem we had was the highchair where the straps seemed stuck behind the chair and the tray could not be pushed right in. Apparently some diners had wrecked the highchair the week before. I do hope management would replace it soon. This caused us some grieve with our active 19 month old who managed to keep escaping from the high chair. This naturally affected our dining enjoyment. Anyhow, from experience, with kids you never really know how dinner will turn out so we never have expectations of a smooth dining experience anyway.

Coming to the mains, the lamb shanks were tasty and came off the bone easily and was a generous serve of 2 shanks. Presented with the most delicious tomato braised cabbage and with the baked mash potato in the red wine gravy, it was so satisfying. The medium peppered sirloin steak came out medium thankfully, but the peppery taste was hardly distinct. Served with two field mushrooms atop the steak and chips in a separate bowl. There were also 3 choices of the kids meal at $7 and we chose the chicken fillet and chips. The cakes looked lovely but we were completely stuffed by then.

The restaurant is actually part of the serviced apartment complex where parking was ample. Only problem was the getting in and out of Great Eastern Highway as depending on which direction you are heading, you may have to go a roundabout way.

Went for a "business lunch" last Friday to 150 East Riverside and had a lovely time. Felt like the start of summer, out on the balcony and sipping on a cold Corona.

Chicken, Spinach, Roma salad with bacon and a few other bits was perfect. Caesar salad that my guest chose looked fine as well.

Nice beers available, didn't check the wine list but the menu seemed very dandy indeed.

My guest let me know that the service seemed to be the only thing lacking at 150 East but during my visit it was very pleasant, unobtrusive but sometimes interrupted conversations and as my brain only does 1 to 1.5 things at a time I kept losing my train of thought! But no real complaints or dramas with the service, very happy and friendly.

Will be going back for dinner some time very soon.

Went back for lunch Thursday for Easter - no booking.

The garlic ciabatta sucked this time. Everything that made it wonderful last time was lacking in it now.

The small mezze plate was as always, well presented and tasty but not all dishes are always to my taste. This was the way on this occasion.

Partner's chicken salad and my seared scallop salad were both lovely.

They had a large-ish group in which may have impacted on the food somewhat. We did see our meals come out, go towards a table that obviously had already been served, and go back into the kitchen. It took about five minutes for our dishes to make it to our table from then.

Still one of my favourites but wasn't quite up to standard.

I have had several lunch and dinners at 150 East and, with the exception of one occasion, have not been disappointed by the experience. As mentioned, one visit was a bit of a disaster from the service to the food but I have been there at least a dozen times without having a bad thing to say about it. I usually order the entre sized mezze plate to share with my partner for starters which samples an array of their food and while some items have not always been to my taste, it has always been well presented and well flavoured. For those of you who like garlic bread, try theirs - brilliant! Their salads have always been fresh and tasty, and their seafood dishes delicate. I am not really into steaks so can't comment but their lamb shanks and their duck confit for dinner are highly recommended. Lovely on a sunny Sunday afternoon as you have a lovely view to accompany your meal. One of my regular haunts.
