Overall:
As a rule, I only review a restaurant once unless something has changed or it has been a long time since reviews. This also would include breakfast vs lunch/dinner and that is what has induced me to type again about this restaurant. This is after all one of my favourite places and I visit fairly often.
As my brother and his family were up from the country for the long weekend in June, and their calendar being chockas most of the time, it seemed the only we way we were going to catch up was at breakfast before they left Perth. They agreed to come over my way for a change and so I met them and my mother at 150 East in Belmont. (Gee it was nice to not have to drive very far to meet someone for a change!)
Two things unimpressed me as I waited to be seated at our booked table (and no, the lengthy wait for attention wasn't it!); one, a public holiday surcharge and two, no Entertainment Card discounts allowed. I found this to be a rather hefty surcharge and one I won't forget - I won't be back on the days they do that! (My brother was paying though and he didn't seemed concerned but then he also forgets that I can get the discount.)
Once seated, I still had to wait for the rest of the family so after initially seeing if I wanted anything while I waited, the wait staff left me alone to take in the view of the river and Great Eastern Highway.
The breakfast menu has all the usual suspects from continental breakfast to pancakes to full cooked brekkies. The adults were all easily pleased and ready to order but there was a fair bit of hoo-ha with the kids as they wanted multiple meals each! The two eldest settled on pancakes with fruit and cream with the promise of sausages if they were still hungry at the end. The six year old though wanted cereal and apple juice from the continental breakfast, and only that but with a side serve of sausages. As the continental breakfast was going to cost $16.50 (with the surcharge), we tried to convince her that that was rather costly for a bowl of Rice Bubbles! The waitress though was very accommodating and offered my brother bottomless juice and the cereal for her at half-price.
The kids all enjoyed their meals (which included half a dozen sausages for them to share!) and the adults all enjoyed their Eggs Benedict. I, on the other hand, had ordered scrambled eggs with toast and an extra tomato. I don't know about anyone else but I like my scrambled eggs to be all fluffy and in little golden clumps, not like a flat omelette. I guess someone just forgot to stir the frypan but it wasn't very tasty. (As I was the only complainant at the table, I have only deducted half a star for the food.)
I would definitely go back here and would like to do breakfast again, although I won't order my eggs scrambled (and I now have reservations about their omelettes too). The restaurant was not busy at all but maybe a bit too full for their two waitresses or else they were trying to prepare for lunch a little bit too devotedly, as my mum had to chase up her coffee twice.
