Welcome to 1907
Designer Gabbi McAullay has installed a modern-classic interior which brings the century old building into harmony with the latest dining trends, enriching Perth´s cultural evolution.
Executive Chef Graeme Shapiro has formally trained in Ireland and Thailand and cooked in London and Sydney as well as his birthplace of Cape Town, South Africa where he became renowned for innovation and flare with his menus, changing the face of the South African culinary scene.
He has featured on shows, Ready Steady Cook and Off The Menu with Ainsley Harriot, and has frequently rated amongst South Africa´s top chefs and restaurateurs. He describes his influences as `global village´, utilising imported ingredients to marry with our own fresh local produce. Signature dishes include Manjimup marron and mussels in an Asian broth of tamarind and coconut cream; venison 1907, an interpretation of a dish created a century ago, the classic `Diane´ - a tribute to the goddess of the hunt.

Chef Shapiro has designed a menu which reflects the contemporary yet classical elegance of the interior to create a dining experience par excellence. In his own words; `the diner should come away feeling like they could not have produced the same at home´.
Our extensive wine list presents wines both from the Antipodes and across the globe. The wine list features some of Australia´s better known wineries as well as paying respect to many smaller boutique wineries which are also producing world class wines with passion and flair.

Although the menu was extensive, unfortunately, the diners' bank balance must match in order to really enjoy 1907.The choices were excellent, but much of the joy was stolen with the anticipation of the nasty bill awaiting departure.
The pork belly was delicious, and the gnocci was a delight but the highlight of the meal was the lamb rack which was absolutely perfect.
Portion sizes were very generous,to the point where we skipped our usual cheese/dessert courses - yet another disappointment.Perhaps trimming both the portion sizes and the plate charges may ensure the longevity of the establishment.
Overall the presentation was great, but diners in Perth are very astute, and any mediocrity will be harsly viewed when weighed against pricing.
Although attentive and efficient, we detected a certain arrogance from our waitperson that tainted the overall experience. Other staff were different, but our tables' bright mood was tainted by someone who was evidently having a bad day. Food service was excellent, and delivery was faultless.
Bravo - a thousand times bravo!!!! One of the very best fitouts seen. This is a world class visual sensory experience. Comfortable and approachable and very very lush.
Overall:
Great wine list - albeit missing a few French favorites such as the Delamotte or Salon bubbles. The services of a knowledgeable sommelier familiar with the menu would be appreciated by diners. Overall impression is of an overly-arrogant young establishment which has not yet earned its stripes, but is certainly carrying the bloodlines to make it a great destination in Perth.
The food was delicious but no one suggested that we order a side with our main which they should have done, as the venison was simply venison.
Service was excellent. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our wine was constantly topped up as was water. Meals came out with good timing and the maitre de even came and spoke with me while my companion was in the bathroom.
I liked the way it was set up and it looked fabulous, but after a 5mil revamp you would expect such! Everything was comfortable, lighting was great, seating was nice. Thoroughly enjoyed the bar downstairs also.
Overall:
I really enjoyed the whole experience. I would recommend to friends although the price tag makes it a place thats not so much for a casual Friday night dinner more an anniversary, or really just a place to splash money around. It will be the new place to be seen. I think it will take Coco's etc off the map!
Food was of a good standard, but not such that you'd tell all your friends to go (especially for the premium price being charged). The marron and mussels in thai-style broth was a highlight. The pork belly and duck salad were ordinary. The wine list does not allow for much under $50.
Friendly, efficient, but again, nothing to rave about.
The strongest selling point for 1907 - the decor is fantastic from the moment you walk in to be greeted by the oh-so-designer full-horse lamp. Great detailed mosaics. The only cringeworthy aspect is the velour used on the high-backed booths.
Overall:
Nice to visit, but we won't be rushing back. Perhaps a casual drink in the bar downstairs next time.
