The food here is very good. I've tried a lot of dishes, and I keep going back for more. I only ever visit for lunch and have been there once or twice a month for the last four years.
The lunch specials cost $9.50 last time I was there, and there are about 20 to choose from. You can get the entire dish for some of them, and others come with a choice of either steamed or fried rice. Of note the fried rice doesn't cost extra like at some places. My favorites include:
Char kway teow - a slightly smokey taste, with a hint of chilli.
Satay Chicken - Not too peanutty, and not spicy. If you don't like the spice try this one.
Kung Po Chicken - HOT! Served with hot chillis, and a hint of honey i think.. very good if you can handle the heat.
Some very friendly, almost quirky staff. The regulars are very enthusiastic, with an honest, service focus. I do find them a bit quirky, but they contribute to the atmosphere. I think once out of the dozens of visits, one person got the wrong meal. This was fixed quickly and apologetically.
When you first walk in they have the fish tank with the live crabs in it bubbling away. It's not overly pretty, but I have a peek at the crabs each visit. It's always pretty busy when I'm there, so not a quiet place. Most of the decorations have aged a bit, but the walls and roof are covered.
Overall:
Overall it's the great food, competent service, and friendly staff that keep me and workmates coming back. We used to joke about the ugly sticky carpet, but they finally got new carpet! Now I don't feel so bad taking people there for the first time. Overall great value for the price.
