Overall:
Wanting to have a pre-Christmas catch-up lunch somewhere in East Perth, we decided on Antico as it was in the Entertainment Book. When we arrived on Sunday afternoon, we were a bit concerned to see a very large booking had already arrived. There were approximately 35 people and thankfully the noise did not interrupt our meal as much as we thought it would. It was also very thoughtful of the staff to advise us to place our orders early in order to beat the large group.
My husband and I arrived first and were promptly seated at out pre-booked table. We did end up opening our own wine but this was easy enough (screw tops) and it was probably more due to our eagerness than any oversight on the waiter’s part. The menu looked really enticing and we had quite a difficult time deciding what to order, so we took advantage of the offer of a cold beer while we deliberated. Our guests arrived and we decided on a traditional brushchetta and one with Italian sausage, olives and melted mozzarella to share. Both arrived in decent time and there were 4 pieces of each. It wasn’t the best that we have tasted but it was quite agreeable.
My husband ordered the steak he had been craving and asked for some scallops as well (an odd request, but his other craving). Other orders were fresh gnocchi, scaloppine and a prawn, scallop and pesto risotto. All the meals arrived in due time, nice presentation and it was all hot and fresh. The only oversight was my husband’s scallops which appeared to have been lost in translation with our young waiter. Another waiter had to be called over and it was once again explained that some scallops were ordered to go with the steak (surf ‘n’ turf / reef ‘n’ beef style but my husband is allergic to prawns). The gnocchi and scaloppini were declared delicious and my risotto was the perfect creamy texture with just a slight bite. Everyone had a taste and agreed that it was spot on. Just as my husband was about to finish his meal, 3 scallops arrived on a separate plate, not the best service but they were very fresh and came with the roe attached, something not very often seen in W.A but appreciated when it is.
We had to ask for the dessert menu and coffees and were presented with one of those ‘ready made Italian dessert’ menus. Not being a huge fan of this, we chose Toblerone cheesecake and Vanilla and Honeycomb tart from the refrigerated display. The coffee was great and in the end, we forgot to use our Entertainment Book voucher when paying. We would go back again if we were in the area and looking for a casual meal (in order to use our voucher) but there was nothing outstanding that would cause us specifically to go there again.
