Food:

Food was excellent and reasonably priced. We had the roast duck, sizzling bean curd and Chinese spinach in garlic consomme. The duck was tender and juicy with nicely crisped skin, served in a light soy bean sauce. The bean curd was sizzled with little pieces of pork, vegetables and Chinese mushroom - delicious. The spinach was a little too greasy but it was tasty.

Service:

Service was moderate. Most of the waiting staff appeared to be students or part-timers.

Ambience:

Formal, slightly over-the-top ambience with a full bar. Not your usual noisy Chinese restaurant with gold and red swathes.

Overall:
I noticed that the Asians were served faster as noted uncharitably on 15 Sep 2007 and 31 Oct 2006. However, I think this is not due to discrimination but the restaurant's acute cultural awareness. Caucasians normally socialize, with alcoholic beverages, over lengthy dinners but Asians prefer to drink and socialize after dinner. The restaurant seems to be making an effort to tailor its service profile to facilitate the preferences of its multi-cultural clientele.

Quite impressed. Unique Chinese dining experience.

We ordered the Satay Stick Entree, Combination Fried Kway Teow & the Honey Chicken. The chicken satay tasted great; good use of spices and full pieces of chicken. The Kway Teow was well done, not as oily as traditional Chinese restaurants which was most refreshing. The Honey Chicken was similar with minimal batter. All in all, the food was well presented and the taste satisfying.

We found the ambience was also unique to traditional Chinese restaurants. An aquarium projection lights the main wall of the restaurant giving it a niche edge. The best way to describe it, is modern western serving eastern food.

The service was impeccable. The staff were friendly and attentive; our glasses were never empty. Our entree was out within 5-10mins and our mains followed with similar timing once our entree was collected.

Dinner for two cost approximately $50.

We called Aquarium late Saturday afternoon to book a table for two, after reading the reviews and being unable to find good chinese food. I was surprised we got in it was full, and we could see why, the food was great!!

The waitress took us to our table and immediately brought water and took our drink order, a bottle of wine and a corona. These came within 10 minutes, as did our entrees of prawn cutlets, (very hard to find these days) and box chicken (very tender). We then had egg fried rice, chicken and broccoli and curried king prawns, all very fresh and huge servings.

For a very busy saturday night the service was faultless, with heaps of staff running around.
The only downside was the price, over $100 for two is quite expensive for chinese, BYO would be better as the average bottle of wine is $30.

One of our regular restaurants for lunch and dinner.

Good extensive menu. Very good lunch menu at a great price.

Try the chili fried fish, honey chicken, kway teow

This restaurant is quality, tablecloths, cutlery, wine glasses. It is a pity some patrons do not dress accordingly.

Down side service has been slow lately, and do not allow BYO. We would go more often if they did.

We have visited this restaurant on several occasions and have had a great meal every time. Would have to be the best Chinese restaurant I have been to (so far anyway!).

On our first trip however (on a 35+ degree day) we all rocked up in our Aussie uniform of singlets and thongs and suddenly realised we were quite underdressed for the atmosphere of the restaurant! oops!

Food is great - so much to choose from and it always arrives steaming hot and appears fresh. I have read a few other reviews where the service was slow, but each time we have been there our meals were served within about 15 minutes of ordering!!! We were amazed! I did notice however on one visit that the Asian diners appeared to be attended to more frequently than we were (I hope this was only a one-off!)

The servings are very large, so if you are only going with a small number of people it is best to order no more than probably one main sized dish each and share.

Thought we would try this place as the food reviews were very good. Service was fantastic could not fault the attentive waitresses. We ordered at 6.30pm and all of our 6 dishes were on the table within 8 minutes. We ordered the Szechuan beef, chilli pepper fried squid, sizzling garlic king prawns, rice, noodles and a mixed vegetable dish. We didn't need the vegetable dish as there were adequate vegetables in the other dishes we ordered. Price was very reasonable. There was only the two of us and we ordered way too much food, but had to try several dishes. We were asked if we would like to take the remainder of our meal home. What a thoughtful suggestion and it was great not to waste so much food.

Last night I dined to the Aquarium Chinese Seafood Restaurant in Ascot recommended by a friend for my 16th wedding anniversary. When I first walked in, I was like... WOW!!! The decor was just absolutely stunning. It was completely the opposite of the old place which was Lonestar. It wasn’t your typical Chinese restaurant, all red and nothing else; it was very elegant and classy. The restaurant was packed when I got there and I was just glad that I had made a booking. A nice young man showed me through to my table and I ordered some drinks while I waited for my husband to turn up. There was a bit of a wait for the drinks but the staff was friendly and smiling soothing us that the wait won’t be long. We ordered the famed chili squid for an entrée and it was HEAVEN. The staff was all very helpful when it came to ordering and was attentive when serving a dish, taking an extra second to tell us what the dish was and told us to enjoy our meal before leaving. The rest of the food that came out was equally if not better in quality and quantity. One of the mains that I especially enjoyed was the Golden Egg style Snow Crab it just melts in your mouth! Last night was most enjoyable and it was just one of the best wedding anniversary meals I’ve ever had. The food was excellent, service friendly and attentive and the surrounding is worth the dress-up effort. Top Restaurant in WA!!!!

Based on the previous reviews of this restaurant I went with my lady friend last evening. The chilli pepper fried squid main course was very good (thank you for the members reviews) but should have went for the smaller entree. Tried the waitress recommended yam and pumpkin casserole - it is not a common dish but good.

Asked for the smallest fresh Murray perch but it turned out to be a large 1.3kg for 2 people. I believe it is a duty of a good waitress/waiter to confirm with clients in these kinds of situations. Clients may not always remember to ask the right questions. For your curiosity the steam fish dish alone came in at $71 but fortunately was very good.

The service is good. The negatives are:

1) gigantic plasma TV screen on (luckily with no sound) which spoilt the ambience of the restaurant;
2) No byo but fully licensed with a very nice bar; and
3) C/c 1% surcharge and EFTPOs surcharge 20c are petty in the scheme of things.

Visited the restaurant again, in spite a very average service the last time we visited. Eight of us arrived at 7 pm last Friday, and there was only about 65% occupancy. We ordered Chilly Pepper Squid, Chilli Fillet. Lemon Chicken, and some vegetarian dish. Again, the food was excellent, the ambient great, the wine list was reasonable, but where it all fell apart, was terrible service. Our food was served at 9 pm, well after all the Oriental diners who arrived 30 minutes after us had been served, and then, one of our dishes was given to another patron, and at 9.30, we cancelled it! It was not a great night, but the food is really lovely. We do not treat waitressing as a career, and employ young kids who have no idea sometimes, and this is unfortunately reflected in service.

our third visit was on a busy Friday night, a party of 7. Great menu, and the quality and price exceptional. Chilly-pepper squid is to die for, better than Genting (Burswood), and Canton prawns superb. Good wine selection, but very inflexible attitude to our request to bring couple of bottles of a very special wine for a very special occasion!. Ambient is very good, and the only complaint is the below average service. Had to wait a long time to get served, in spite of faxing the choice of food earlier. But will go back, as we rate it in the top 4 Chinese eateries in Perth.

Had a group function at the Aquarium Seafood Restaurant for my friend’s birthday the other day.

The menu is HUGE and a fantastic price. I could not fault the food and in fact would say in the top 2 to 3 Chinese restaurants in Perth when it came to the food.

The service however left a bit to be desired. If they charged a bit more they could afford to put more staff on. The surrounds are nice and very clean just don’t ask anything to difficult at the bar.

For a good feed would recommend just look past the service.

My mum took me to lunch at the Aquarium about a month ago. Bit of a mixed bag really. Huge menu - standard Chinese fare and a specialities menu.

I wanted to have a lobster entrée from the specialities menu and my mum wanted crab from the same area. Well after she got told how huge the crab was, she changed her mind – it was an entrée after all, not a main. When I got asked if I wanted to choose my own lobster (no way!!) and got the impression that I would get charged for the entire lobster not just the small amount needed for an entrée, I also changed my mind.

We went to the business lunch menu – a different menu for each weekday, but all starting with minestrone (! – not very Chinese really) and sashimi (likewise). Friday’s third course was roast duck. All menus finished with fresh fruit. It was presented in a bento box manner. While I didn’t mind the minestrone, it had the feeling of being constructed of a lot of leftovers and would probably vary depending on what had been leftover the night before. Could be wrong though. I found the sashimi of salmon too thick but still nice, although accidentally getting some of the pure wasabi sauce on the salmon without realizing nearly killed me. The bit of lettuce and pickled ginger, not to mention the steamed rice, were nice accompaniments. The roast duck was lovely, served in its own gravy, as was the fresh fruit salad. All for about $16. Pretty good value.

The service was a bit of a concern, with one waitress having to help out our waiter as he wasn’t sure about an awful lot!
