I found the menu at the balmoral to be lengthy enough to make me ponder my choices but not to lengthy that I got overwhelmed. they also had some daily specials which keeps it interesting. The lemon peppered squid was lovely and hot, not at all chewy and my gluten intolerant friend was impressed that she could eat it as they used rice flour to coat. All our meals came with in 20 minutes of our entree being finished and all meals where hot and excellently presented. I had the rib eye steak with extra prawns and garlic sauce and the asparagus and Parmesan cheese as a side ( I had read a review previously that said it only came with potato - that exactly what the menu said so how can you complain?) it was perfectly cooked and very tasty

Service:

Our waitress was extremely helpful and cheery, she was busy but seemed to have enough time to make us feel like we were important, she had good knowledge of beers and wines and had no problem in going to ask the chefs of some dietary requirements

Ambience:

The Balmoral definitely has atmosphere, it had a happy vibe and the eight of us got into the mood for a night out on the town. I must admit though the band was a bit loud and some women on the other side of the bar where definitely having a "good screaming "time!

Overall:
My friends and I decided to eat on a Friday night at the Balmoral, we had no booking abut chanced it anyway. We arrived at 7.30 and the place was busy, we were promptly greeted and asked to wait a few minutes while they found us a table. 2 minutes later we where seated on the verandah had menus in hand and water poured, the service was great all night, the food awesome and the beers cold and flowing. I have been the Balmoral many time before and it hasn't failed to deliver yet!

We ordered the steaks last week and had the same experience of previous reviewers with both steaks arriving cold. Mine was tasty (asides from the temperature) but unfortunately my partners was rather bland. The steaks were boringly served with just baby potatoes (4 or 5 maybe), but surely a few beans or other veggies would not break the bank? $30 is the average price these days for a steak I understand, but mediocrity is only worth half that in my opinion...Disappointing.

Service:

The other waitress we informed was quick to offer replacements or a drink or dessert which was wonderful, and her concern was very genuine. Unfortunately, as the food took 25mins to arrive, we did not want to wait any longer. We declined on the drink or dessert too but appreciated the gesture.

Ok, this is my local so it's just convenient to go here sometimes. The location is good and the food OK but the appalling service leaves me absolutely bewildered EVERY single time. I have never felt so invisible and always feel like I have to dance naked on the table to get anyones attention. It's not like there are not enough staff, they always seem to be walking by....with blinkers on!

Please please please Balmoral....do something about the service! I hear the Broken Hill has improved significantly and is looking like a welcome alternative.

Husband and I ate there Saturday for a late lunch. Decided on the Balmoral tasting plate- what a winner- lots of turkish bread, olives, EVOO, calamari, leaves, dip and fetta. Good value too and would make a great shared starter between 3 or 4. Husband had pork burger and chips, good value, good taste, shame about the fries- I think they may have been sitting for a while.

Dessert options were varied and something for everyone, it was actually disappointing. We shared a piece of flourless chocolate and hazelnut cake with berries and chocolate sauce- apart from finding the hair, it had been over microwaved hot, was really sweet and came with that squirty cream. Maybe just a bad choice.

Service:

Seated promptly and offered indoor or outdoor table. Offered drinks straight away. The waitperson was efficient but not very smiley, the waitperson taking our order was very casual and pretty sulky- "you right?" was how she asked for the order. Original waitperson served our lunch and took dessert order, 3rd waitperson cleared dessert plate- I mentioned the hair in our dessert, she was suitably apologetic.

Nearly very good!

The menu was good- broad selection of specials and regular menu. Lots of staples- fish, chicken, veal, pasta, pizzas, salads, pork, steak, etc. It was actually hard to choose.

Coffees were OK.

Good value with the entertainment book and they didn't charge for dessert (as I would have expected).

Would I go back? Yes- great feel to the place, good menu and I'd like to give it another shot.

The menu was tantilising and we took a long time to make a decision. The wait staff were pleasant and patient and when we finally made a decision our food came out very quickly despite it being a busy Friday night.

My steak was cooked to perfection but the onion jus lacked any real flavour and my only resolution was to bolster it with salt and pepper. The potatoes were unfortunately overcooked and failed to live up to expectations. My partners meal of a fillet was tasty and perfectly cooked. His fillet came with cauliflower cheese (not on the menu) and didn't suit the dish however it had an excellent flavour for an old fashioned accompaniment. The meals were large even for two big eaters like us and we decided to forgo desert. Overall a mixed bag of excellent and poor.

Went to the Balmoral for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It wasn't crowded, quite spacious and not noisy at all.

Waited almost 40 mins to order, and then had to find a waitperson to help. Food took another 40 mins to arrive. Waitress was lovely, apologised etc.

Meals at our table were toast (16 month old) which came with a good choice of spreads. Unfortunately the toast was like lumps of brick - hard and cold.

I ordered bacon & eggs - a huge serving! Also cold, probably would have been good if it was hot, the bacon looked crispy.

Others ordered varying bacon & egg type meals - eggs cooked differently etc. All were OK. Nothing special in any of the meals and all were cold.

Waitress offered more drinks, coffee took 30 mins to arrrive, and yes, they were luke warm. Table not cleared until we asked (after walking around to find someone again).

We have been before new owners took over, and it was brilliant. Not sure whether it was a staffing issue, or the new ownership not as professional, but we would not return again, especially with kids, and not if you want food served quickly and good service.

I went to the Balmoral after work on a Wednesday night. My friend and I loved the menu. I had the chicken burger and chips and was stuffed. The drinks were flowing and the atmosphere was great, with a few locals and other diners. Will definitely return.

I went there for breakfast on a Sunday morning with some girlfriends. The staff were very friendly, however the coffees we ordered throughout the morning took a little while to get to us. When we got our meals, they were cold. We were sitting outside and it was a breezy morning, however the pancakes and the eggs were cold before they even reached our table. A little disappointing, but the next round of coffees were taken off our bill to compensate. All in all, a nice morning spent with friends and the atmosphere is great!

Had a quick lunch at The Balmoral today. Pre-ordered my lunch - calamari on salad. It arrived just as I got there - perfect timing. Service was great - waiter asking if we were okay and needed anything.

Unfortunately, the food let me down. The salad that the calamari was on was sublime, fresh, crisp, lots of variety of green leaves plus shredded capsicum, snow peas, onion. But the calamari was coated in thick batter and the whole plate and salad was drenched in a very oily dressing.

Before I ordered I asked if I could have the calamari grilled, but they said no. I believe they should have put the dressing on the side, too.

The pub grub at this venue is a little more pricier than your average grub and I probably won't be going back here unless to drink a tipple in the lovely front beer garden or rear courtyard over the summer.

The four of us parked ourselves under one of the heaters out on the enclosed verandah. It was a cold night but we were cosy all night.

We all ordered something different and each meal was much enjoyed.

However, the service spoilt the night. I think we had 3 different waiters/waitresses over the night and each of them got something we ordered wrong.

The first round of drinks - they got one wrong and had to take it back and bring another.
Then they brought out a wrong meal - which they took back. By the time they brought his correct meal back, we had just about finished our meals. Only after his wife jumped up and down about him having to wait for his meal while watching the rest of us eat, did they offer him a free drink.

And to top it all off, the round of drinks after dinner they brought another wrong drink.
It was only a quiet Thursday night and there were plenty of waiting staff to go around the number of customers. It doesn't sound like much and perhaps they were trainees, but it certainly took the edge off our night out.

Good honest pub food.

Eat there about once a month and this past month was conditional normal.

Had the chicken burger and a beer. Food came out quick and chips were hot, a good start. Serving size was good and chips were cooked in what seemed to be reasonably fresh oil.

Have had other dishes previously and it is generally of a high standard.

Service is casual but they look after you.

Compared to other pubs in the area, these guys are getting it right alot more often than not.
