Small portions, supplied on cold plates,we had to wait for our share plates so by the time we came to eat the food was really cold.
Our table of 6 was unanimous that the food did not have good flavour, and was poor value. I could take you to a dozen asian/thai restaurants that give better value.
If this is the standard of Perth city restaurants we will stay in the suburbs.

- A nice spot overlooking that "pondy thing" and with some nice fillies prancing by. We sat outside for our lunch, would not want to be inside if it was busy, too noisy.

- The first time I went here I had the teriyaki chicken which was slightly crunchy, full of flavour and absolutely wonderful. I would almost have to say it was the best chicken dish I have ever eaten, the rest of the dishes were pretty good. We had a massive selection and it was pretty good value for money, nice serving sizes. HOWEVER, I have been back twice since then, over the space of about 8 months and have been super disappointed. I dont know if they changed chef or what but the chicken was godawful when I ordered it again. The third time I ordered it I told them my predicament, how it was so good that first time when it was a bit crunchy. Nothing changed, it was worse than ever and we hardly touched our food. Yuck.

- I will never go back here. I have never been so let down by a restaurant. That first impression was amazing and I truly thought I was onto a good thing . . . .sadly no.

I get takeaway from here heaps cause it's so cheap and fantastic, but should eat at the restaurant more often.
The setting is lovely - adjacent to that pondy thing at claisebrook cove - enough passersby for a bit of people watching, but no road frontage.
The service has always been prompt and smiling.
It's worth trying a few different dishes here - it's fairly standard Thai fare but done really well. My recent favourite is the jungle curry - it has a HOT almost stickily sweet barely there sauce and is great.
On a value for money basis it's excellent - the last time I ate there me and a friend used the entertainment book voucher and got away with just over $20 for 2 mains, an entree and rice, and I got to take home enough for lunch the next day as well.
the only down note is that the last few times I've had takeaway on a Monday it hasn't been as good as the food later in the week or on the weekend, maybe just not as fresh.

If you want an inexpensive, filling meal with a great view, you really can’t go past this restaurant. We’ve been many times and have always loved it.
There is a great array of Asian dishes sure to suit any taste buds. At an average price of $12 -$13 per dish, it makes for a great meal at a low price. Last night, with the Entertainment Book voucher, cost us a grand total of $51 for two people, 3 dishes, rice, tasting plate entrée, and corkage of $1.50 each. We left completely stuffed and satisfied.
The banquet options are fantastic for groups of people, priced at $22.50 and $26.50 per person (min 4 people). We have had both, and in each instance couldn’t believe the amount of great food that just kept on coming from the kitchen. Great choice for family birthdays or catch ups with friends, even a romantic meal for two. Sure, it’s not your five-star establishment, but it makes for an impressive cheap date as well!
Service is prompt, although some might consider it basic. Last night they showed us to a table, put a water bottle on it and handed us 2 wine glasses. However you don't go here to be wowed by service, although the wait staff are always lovely, it's the food.
The view is gorgeous; it overlooks the fountains and water in East Perth. Sitting outside on a summer's evening is wonderful, as is sitting inside by the window in winter. We've introduced this place to family and friends who have really enjoyed eating here, so we would have no reservations about highly recommending this place to anyone who wants a decent meal with a decent price tag.

when you can walk to a restaurant and don't have to worry about the boys in blue spoiling your night any review must start in front...having been to Basil Leaves 3 times in 10 days i thought it about time to share our experiences...
in a nutshell the food is great, the servings are huge, the ambience (outside next to a lake near the East Perth canal) is very enjoyable, however the service is not quite up to the same standard...
the last couple of times i have taken to having Praram Long Song Chicken ($12.90) which basically seems to be a mix of chicken (heaps of) and vegetables in a very tasty, mildly spicy sauce...when you mix in the rice you find that the normal size plate is far too small and it is therefore necessary to have lots of small portions of rice rather than one big lot, otherwise you end up looking like you've had a food fight with the wife...the servings really are XL size and anyone who can then fit in sweets needs to have a careful look at their culinary habits...the other 5 at our table all had sago and ice cream for dessert so where they put their main meal i have no idea...the word gluttony comes to mind but i wouldn't dare say it to them...
my only minor complaints are that firstly, we were not offered a cooler for our white wine on any of the 3 occasions we went which i thought was pretty poor in the middle of summer and secondly, that every table we sat at outside seemed to have 4 different length legs and staying clean became a bit of an art form.
despite these minor inconveniences Basil Leaves is a top place for good food at affordable prices...the neighbours must think so too because they go more often than we do...

Great value for money
Service has been hit and miss, been there 3 times now. Twice we've had our food before our drinks.
Great place for a cheap feed!

- not a flash restaurant but set in the man made lake area just back from the East Perth canal…if you are looking for a quick, value for money meal look no further…meal sizes are large and quality is good.. most mains are about $13 and the service is quick and attentive...just wish the table we had didn't rock back and forth, then again, maybe it was just the wine...fortunately we could just walk home, even if it was all uphill…we've been there many times now and have never been disappointed.

Cheap and cheerful
I live in the area an used to regularly eat at this restaurant when it opened (a few years ago). Back then the food quality was great! Unfortunately, recently i've found the food to be pretty hit and miss. I've had some good meals there (enough to keep me coming back), but lately the quality/standard of the food seems to have dropped. Not enough to totally turn me off, but definitely enough to reduce my patronage (now roughly once every few months).
The location is great, food prices are cheap, and the Royal Bar is just 20m away.
Definitely cheap and cheerful.

One of the best value restaurants in the East Perth area. We ordered a banquet for four, which was $26 each plus $1.50 per person for corkage. We had enough food for six and that was before they brought the dessert out!
Definitely worth a trip, beautiful location right on a little extended, man-made lake from the Swan River and very friendly staff.
