Food:

In short, food was very well done. Me & my wife had the cold meat platter as our entree, and thought it was delicious and very good value. As the mains we had the chicken breast wrapped in black forest ham stuffed with camembert on a bed of risotto and the porcini mushroom pasta. The chicken was very nice as well as the risotto. The pasta was slightly undercooked therefore a bit hard to chew but flavourwise it was satisfying and quite rich.

Service:

Usually in a restaurant there's at least one waiter that's less than impressive. However that wasn't the case in this occasion. Everybody was always smiling and very attentive. Helga, the owner, was especially friendly and that attitude filters down to everybody.

Ambience:

Decor was very well done and overall ambience very pleasant. Music is definitely a plus, maybe our liking to classical music helps.

Overall:
We came to Beethoven without any prior pre-conception or any expectations of what a German food establishment should taste, look or feel like. What we found at Beethoven is a tightly-knit, family-run restaurant in which everybody working there seem to have an attachment to, resulting in overall a very pleasant dining experience in all aspects. We will certainly come back and recommend to our friends.

Food:

Probably one of the worst meals I've had. I had the chicken breast wrapped in black forest ham and stuffed with camembert, served with mint & sundried tomato risotto and dining partner had pork shank with apple sauce, sauerkraut & veggies (which was highly recommended by the waiter). Portions are big but both our meals were dry, overcooked and extremely tasteless. My chicken was massive but only the very tip was stuffed with camembert which I imagined would be the primary reason someone would order the dish - the risotto was so overcooked it was baby food material. 1 star given for the sauerkraut.

Service:

Waiter was polite and warned us about not ordering certain things which I thought was nice. But we were also charged for extras which we did not request for.

Ambience

Overall:
For what they charge (mains $35-$41) the meals certainly don't deliver. We grabbed the bill as soon as we put our cutlery down and headed next door to McDonalds'...

I don't want to set a precedent and I usually try to remain upbeat about all dining experiences but after leaving here it was kinda hard.
My opinion is already biased as I have yet to be impressed by any German food eaten and after 4 attempts at different venues I think I'll hang up the boots.
The food was tired, the meats eaten were not packed with flavour or infused in any way (par for German food) and after hoping that salvation would arrive in the form of a decent, hearty cut of meat I was again let down.
It might be a case of our palettes being spoilt with so many exotic and rich flavours here in Perth or it may just be a case of the kitchen off on the night, either way I'll leave it for you to be the judge

Service:

fairly bland, staid, and un-passionate

Ambience:

confusing, the decor looked like something out of the 80's with booth seating and multi-colour fabric on wooden chairs. I doubt many German eateries project like this in the homeland. The classical pipe music did nothing to settle my nerves after receiving the bill

Overall:
I hope for the owners sake things have turned around as this could be a great venue - parking at the door, a large and impressive bar, room for a big crowd, alfresco area....it has everything but finish from the kitchen
