Bengal Indian Restaurant

Situated in the beautiful Old Firestation builing in Fremantle's west end, the Bengal is the ideal place to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine surrounded by some of Freo's most famous architecture. Our friendly and easy-going waitstaff are hand selected from the backpackers upstairs and love having a chat with our customers.

  • Wow.

After reading reviews on EWA I was looking forward to trying this place.

I love Indian food as long as it is not too hot. My partner says he does not like Indian because it is too hot for him. He has now changed his mind!

    We went for Friday dinner.

    Service:
This was excellent - we were given poppadoms and water as we were given the menus to look over.
The staff were friendly and courteous with just the right amount of attention.

    Food:
We started with the onion Bahji, this was a little over cooked for me, I am used to it being soft but this was crispy and a little burnt tasting.

Mains: Chicken Tikka and the Chicken Tikka Masala- both delicous. The meat was big chunks of breast meat, very nice. Althought the Tikka is listed as medium it was perfect for us.

    Cost
They are in the entertainment book which makes it even better value. As our bill was only around $50 they took of the % discount and gave us the voucher back to use again. Can't wait to go back.

  • Lovely inside the restaurant. Very spacious and not crammed up to the next table. Its also easy to park on the street right outside. It’s just a shame about the food though. The food is ok, it’s just nothing special and certainly comes nowhere near the Maya in Fremantle which is the best Indian we have found yet. It tastes like it’s from one of those readymade curry jars from the supermarket. The naan bread was also a disappointment.

  • The Bengal is our personal favourite Indian restaurant in Perth. It is situated in Fremantle at the old Fremantle Fire Station (which is appropriate for those who enjoy their hot & spicy Indian meals). They have kept all the fire poles and large doors that open or close depending on the weather.

If you like genuinely hot dishes, I recommend either the chicken or beef vindaloo. Other favourites when we're not after something so hot, are the chicken tikka, beef masala or the butter chicken. We normally order Garlic naan and Basmati rice to top off an awesome meal at a reasonable price.

The service has not always been the best but the food has always been served promptly and its always delicious.

  • Not always a big fan of Indian, and picky about my Restaurants, Bengal has removed all doubt in my mind that it is one of Perth/Fremantle's best Indian restaurants. I was first introduced to it a few months ago by friends and recently we took some friends there. Food was outstanding, the atmosphere great and the decor a treat. I suggest going to Bengal in different seasons, during summer and weather that allows it, they open the old doors up (it used to be an old fire station). It is beautiful on a balmy evening, or in the cooler months when closed up.

I highly recommend it; it is not expensive as it is in the West End of Fremantle and not on the cappuccino strip. Then wander down to get a gelato or sorbet.

everytime to go to Bengal, i will not go to any other, the food is the most authentic in Perth and we are yet to be dissapointed, we have been going for four years and it is still the same chef, only a minor gripe - the recent decor renovations are lovely however still a little tacky, but do not let that stop you!
