Overall:
I don't know what has happened to this place.
This USED to be our favourite place to go for a meal when out in Freo. Unfotunately I think we have pushed our luck and been once too often.
We went for lunch last Sunday.
We had only been seated for about 2 mins when we were asked if we would like any drinks. As we like to decide on our food first then match drinks we said just water for now. The waitress then disappeared and did not return for some time.
Upon her return we ordered a tasting plate ($19) wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli and a chicken burger.
The tasting plate was disappointing - there were a few pieces of cheese and mini dry bread, the rest was marinated mushrooms, onions, olives and capsicum. I do not like marinated things so I just had some of the cheese. I appreciated cheese needs to be stored in the refrigerator but the soft cheese was too cold and had no flavour.
The wedges are great but they only give you a spoonful of sour cream so we had to ask for more (which I think they charged us for).
The chicken burger was good but nothing exciting.
We also ordered 2 banana smoothies (these also disappointed), this is a favourite of my partners so he can be a little critical but I have to agree with him, they were not cold enough, it tasted like the milk had been left out so was cool but not cold.
At Benny's you are served with a glass of water which the wait staff top up as required. Or they used to! We had to ask for more water but they just brought 1 glass of water over so I went without.
The wait staff previously have been courteous and efficient but on this occasion the waitress that served us looked rushed and disorganized. We actually had to flag them down to request things.
When it was time to pay we approached the counter and waited as another customer paid, when it was our turn the girl took our ticket without even acknowledging us. The only time she spoke was to tell us how much our bill was and there was no eye contact at all. There was no friendly atmosphere that we had come to expect.
It has done us a favour in one way - we are now going to try somewhere else next time we go to Freo.
