Food:

After a few pints at Mad Monk's, my boyfriend and i wondered over the road to bennys for a meal, and contrary to other reviews, the food was pretty good! my partner had the Mushroom Bruscetta which was a massive plate of toasted Italian Bread with pan fried mushrooms, balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil and pine nuts, chilli and shaved parmesan and Totellini Cremonese which was tortellini filled with veal, chicken and pistachio served with mushroom and bacon in a creamy sauce. He said it was the best pasta he had in ages.I stuck to the ocean and natural oysters and seafood platter which consisted of a selection of fresh grilled seafood including prawns, oysters, calamari, scallops, mussels and fish. Oysters were fresh and platter great!

Service:

the service was good, we were waited on efficiently and the staff friendly ,we had no probs at all.

Ambience:

it was a Tuesday arvo which was quite quiet but i liked it without the constant noise of loud patrons and having the waiters serve us quickly due to no crowds.

Overall:
i actually liked this place and would go back, but probably not on the weekend. I'd keep it to weekdays as it seems to pay attention more to the customers, food and service.

Food:

The food was pretty average, I had the salmon salad and found that the tomatoes had that floury taste which was not pleasant to bite into. It also looked like it was thrown together with no thought to presentation. My partner had a chicken dish and he said that it was quite nice.

Service:

Service, as my previous experience here, was still not up to scratch. We got served much faster than before, but we sat right next to the desk where they do the bread so they could not have missed us.

Ambience:

Very bright and airy. It has much potential to be a great place to go and grab a bite to eat and catch up with friends. The service of this place unfortunately lets it down.

Overall:
I did not want to go back to this place, as I feel that it encourages bad service, but since it was a public holiday and not much else was opened we decided to go in. It is disappointing to waste money in a place that obviously does the food as an after thought and I will not be going back there or recommending this to anyone.

Out of our group, I ordered the Cajun Scallops for an appetizer and the Penne Arrabiata for the main. The Scallops were ok, they seemed a bit undercooked. The portion size was great. The Penne Arrabiata was also quite bad. The pasta was under cooked, but the sauce was ok.

Service:

We waited 5 minutes at the front and by then no one had come to speak to us so we took the liberty to try and find our table. Eventually we asked one of the bar staff who pointed out our table at the back. Overall the waiters were quite inattentive and didn't really care much.

Ambience:

Our table was at the very back in the well lit area (compared to the other tables), we were conveniently the closest table to the toilet...

Overall:
Overall Benny's did quite poorly and I probably won't go back there again.

The food was pretty average. We were there for dinner on a Friday night. There was five of us celebrating a birthday. We shared some garlic bread to start which was dry and uninteresting. My salmon salad was overdressed with oil and the lettuce was wilted. There were few positive comments from our friends about the food.

Service:

The wait staff were inattentive and you really had to work hard to get their attention.

Ambience:

We were sat at the back between the two bars, it was far too bright and the table appeared to have been slotted in as an after thought.

Overall:
I have been to benny's many times in the past and have generally been impressed, it has been some months since my last visit and I wont be rushing back or recommending it to anyone.

I had the salmon salad and my partner had the chicken marsala. Loved the salmon salad and my partner thoroughly enjoyed the chicken marsala. cannot say a bad thing about the food.

Service:

The service could use some work though. There was no organisation and the wait staff didnt look like they knew what to do or where to go. i had to ask for our order to be taken and that was while we were sitting there for a while with no drinks or cutlery.

Overall:
I dont think i would go there again. i was pretty disappointed with the service even though the food was great. Maybe it would be good to go there for cocktails but not for a Sunday lunch.

Went here for a late brunch the other weekend but regrettably missed the breakfast menu.

The service was fine but the wait staff appeared to be rushed off their feet and not really in the mood for customer service.

Our lunch was average unfortunately and I thought the prices overly expensive for what we received.

Might head there for cocktails in the future but wouldn't bother with food.

I don't know what has happened to this place.

This USED to be our favourite place to go for a meal when out in Freo. Unfotunately I think we have pushed our luck and been once too often.

We went for lunch last Sunday.

We had only been seated for about 2 mins when we were asked if we would like any drinks. As we like to decide on our food first then match drinks we said just water for now. The waitress then disappeared and did not return for some time.

Upon her return we ordered a tasting plate ($19) wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli and a chicken burger.

The tasting plate was disappointing - there were a few pieces of cheese and mini dry bread, the rest was marinated mushrooms, onions, olives and capsicum. I do not like marinated things so I just had some of the cheese. I appreciated cheese needs to be stored in the refrigerator but the soft cheese was too cold and had no flavour.

The wedges are great but they only give you a spoonful of sour cream so we had to ask for more (which I think they charged us for).
The chicken burger was good but nothing exciting.

We also ordered 2 banana smoothies (these also disappointed), this is a favourite of my partners so he can be a little critical but I have to agree with him, they were not cold enough, it tasted like the milk had been left out so was cool but not cold.

At Benny's you are served with a glass of water which the wait staff top up as required. Or they used to! We had to ask for more water but they just brought 1 glass of water over so I went without.

The wait staff previously have been courteous and efficient but on this occasion the waitress that served us looked rushed and disorganized. We actually had to flag them down to request things.

When it was time to pay we approached the counter and waited as another customer paid, when it was our turn the girl took our ticket without even acknowledging us. The only time she spoke was to tell us how much our bill was and there was no eye contact at all. There was no friendly atmosphere that we had come to expect.

It has done us a favour in one way - we are now going to try somewhere else next time we go to Freo.

What a great place!

We went on a Friday night without a reservation. The place was busy but the staff found us a table (without the usual did you book? I will try to squeeze you in comments so frequent in other places).

The service is the best I have ever seen. I have been to Benny's 3 times now and it is always the same. I have never waited long for my food.

The food itself is also excellent. I had the vodka chicken pasta. The serving was quite large but very tasty. I have only ever had one disappointment, the Caesar salad was too creamy and heavy and not enough salad for me.

A bit expensive but the food is definitely worth it and the boys there make the best cocktails in Freo. I recommend the Passion. The food is rich in flavour I had the spaghetti marinara which had a strong hint of basil and tasted beautiful. Great service too!

Great for a date, situated right in the heart of the cafe strip in Fremantle, serving tasty Italian food in a very modern and luxurious environment.

We got a Prawn dish and Sweet Chilli squid, both of which were very rich and oily, tasted great, and we were able to look out over the cafe strip and watch Fremantle hum.

It's marginally expensive and the food is very extravagant so it's not an every day restaurant, take your partner and enjoy something special - or just go in for coffee and relax in their luxurious environment.
