Welcome to Billy Lees

This is a large establishment, covering two levels and seating 140. Probably Billy Lee’s most appealing feature is that it is open seven days a week until 4am, making it the perfect destination when everywhere else is shut.

Food:

We ordered the fried squid for entree and then for mains we ordered the chili pork spare ribs and sizzling chicken with a large fried rice.
The squid was well cooked but was very bland in taste. There seemed to be no spices or any seasoning.
The sizzling chicken was very tasty, the BBQ sauce taste may have been a bit overpowering but overall it was a good dish.
The pork spare ribs were the best, very tasty and not too greasy. They could have been more chili seasoned however.
The rice was well cooked, not too fried. Didn't really like the processed bacon bits that were added however.
The portion sizes were good and each dish was brought out piping hot.

Service:

The service at first was a bit confusing as we were told there was a table upstairs, only to be told to go downstairs. This happened twice before we were seated. Our order was taken promptly but we had to remind staff about our ribs which came out very late, we had almost finished the other dishes!

Ambience:

You do not go to Billy Lees for the ambience really. However, the place was busy, the staff looked happy and so there was a good buzz about the place. The Italian looking table cloths were a bit out of place though!

Overall:
We enjoyed our meal at Billy Lees however we will not be rushing back as we did not find it to be that spectacular. It seemed like you could experience the same meal (or better) at many other places in Northbridge. I guess the appeal of Billy Lees is its late opening hours. Other than that we found it to be good but fairly average.

It has been a while since my last visit to Billy lees.

In the spur of the moment my friends and I decided to go there tonight.

The three of us were seated upstairs around 8 o'clock. Even though the place was full of eager diners we were seated straight away and were quickly served with a pot of Chinese tea.

After a quick look through the menu, we ordered beef and black bean sauce, beef and baby peas and sweet/sour pork (I think or maybe honey pork??) with steam rice. The Beef dishes were a bit salty but the pork was really nice. We finished the night with a serve of fruit puddings each, which were yummy.

The service was A+, our waitress was really friendly, helpful and really attentive to our needs.

The place felt like a big family gathering, loud, noisy and plenty of food on the table.

Overall, the money was well spent, $41 for the whole deal.

I went for a 3am dinner with a group of friends on Saturday night, the staff was very nice and the food came quit promptly.

We ordered spring rolls, which I found a bit too doughy and with way to little filling, though I must say I enjoyed the hint of cinnamon they had.

We then ordered the chicken and salted fish fried rice, which was a bit too dry for my liking; passing on to the seafood and tofu claypot, I didn’t try this one so I can’t comment, but people on the table said it was pretty good.

On the good side of the list we have the dishes that we will make me certainly go back to Billy Lees.

The combination Kuay Teow, extra tasty flat rice noodles with very good quality chicken, prawns and very tender squid, I enjoyed this dish very much it was truly great. The roast duck was excellent, very nice and crispy skin with very juicy and tasty meat. The schezuan pork was also very nice and tender, a good combination of saltiness and sweetness.

As dessert we had the fried ice-cream, I was quite disappointed with this one, as it was clearly been previously fried and therefore not very hot, also the coating should have been a bit doughier.

Overall, I will most certainly go back the quality and quantity of food was good for a reasonable price.

I went to this Northbridge Chinese Restaurant around 7 years ago and finally had a chance to repeat the experience. Both times it was with a large group of people, we ordered lots of dishes, and nearly all of them were very good indeed. It seemed to pass in a blur, but I can recall that the deep fried squid was very tender, the fish with ginger was nice and gingery, and the crispy skin chicken was especially tasty. There's not much in the way of ambience, and there was a mixup with our tables, but once that was sorted our order was taken quickly and food came out within minutes. For a casual dining experience with plenty of cheap good food it's a winner.

This is my friend favourite restaurant. To tell you the truth it is right up there on my favourite list too. We went here a few times before, it always seems to be busy but we never have to wait for a table.

I find that the food and service is consistently good. As we seated the service staff brought out a bottle of water and tea which we asked for. There were 5 of us, we ordered 5 main dishes and steamed rice, which were place on our table within 15 minutes.

The ambience is quite average and the place can be slightly noisy as everyone is chatting away but at the same time we were busy chatting away ourselves.

We all have more than what we could eat and did enjoy dining here. The price is great as we each pay just over $10 for the meal. Overall, it was a good dinning experience.

My friends and I love billy lees for the tasty cheap chinese food, great number of dishes and relaxed atmosphere. It's good for groups, everyone can order something different and share - with lazy susans on all the big tables - every time we try something new.

My favourites are definitely the XO Chicken (HOT), black pepper chicken and Chilli Spare Ribs.

The most important thing to know about Billy Lees is it's open very late (4am+) so it's perfect to go to after a big night out in Northbridge.
