Can't remember very well what I had for entree or mains as I visited a long time ago. However, I do recall that the food was thoroughly enjoyable. I recall in particular about a pistachio ice cream with fairy floss hair on top - that was delicious. The portions are sized so that you should enjoy 3 courses. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I felt very comfortable and satisfied after my meal - which is what is important. Minus half a star for a wider range of mains to choose from.

Service:

I can't find any faults. Up to standards is what I'd say. Nothing extraordinary although I felt at ease and my water was timely topped up. Staff could potentially appear more excited and enthusiastic perhaps. Not that they look depressed or anything.

Ambience:

Modern and comfortable. Dim lighting. Not noisy when I went. Suitable for a romantic occasion.

Overall:
Overall very nice food and nice restaurant. Only issue is that it's quite pricey, average main costs around the 40 mark. 4.5 stars just because I had a great time and felt very satisfied afterward.

Perfect. Stunning. Creative without ponce. Would recommend to anyone and everyone. A real treat for foodies. Ingredients were fresh, flavours were well balanced and portion sizes were spot on. A "last meal on Earth" type experience for us. Just awesome.

Service:

Faultless. Real class act on all levels - from initial phone booking right through to end of meal/exit. Never had to ask for anything, service was fluid, unintrusive and bang-on. Knowledgeable & friendly staff, team cohesion was very apparent - each staff member knew where each table was at. Great.

Ambience:

Low lights, booth seating, great food, great drinks - (great wine list & drinks list plus we had a couple of killer martinis!!), great music - what more is needed?! Possibly the only small niggle - do we need to hear the chefs' convos from the kitchen? Not too bad if there's a hum in the restaurant.

Overall:
Makes you wonder why you bother eating everyday food! Knock your socks off dining experience - hard & rare to say that for many places in Perth at the moment. Planning next trip to B.F. as I type...

We attended Bistro Felix last night with another couple with high expectations after reading other reviews on eatingwa and after high praise from the couple we were dining with. The entrees are priced from $25-32 and the mains from $35 upwards to $50.Bread to start was nice, but I would have liked more! Entree I had the Dark tartin-quite nice.My friend had the Blue Cheese tortelini, which she said was quite strong but tasty. My main meal was the Venison with Blueberry sauce-cooked to perfection, but did not provide the sensation of flavours I would expect from a meal at that price. My friends who ordered the Harvey steak, Fish and Chicken all agreed that their meals were quite bland and lacking in taste.Plus, for $40/main-please give me more!

Service:

Service was impeccable. Our waitress was very professional and controlled the staff supporting her very well. Very friendly and attentive.

Ambience:

A very nice setting. Lovely atmosphere - relaxed with good background music. If I had to be picky - the only thing was that half way through the meal we all got a little chilly -- but then again, there is a gas crisis!

Overall:
I have eaten at some amazing restaurant abroad where I have paid less or equal to the amount our bill came to last night and was blown away by the quality of the food. We paid $315 for four people's entree/main, one bottle of wine, a beer & a glass of champagne. We decided to go to Il Gelato up the road for desert!A very nice restaurant, however I thought the meals were quite overpriced and lacking in that flavour wow factor. When you pay that much for a meal you expect something you'll remember

Absolutely exquisite, also a little difficult to describe as the dishes are all quite complex and involve lots of sensational flavours, and some very fancy names! For entree I had the marron which was great but possibly outdone by the vegetables! My main was a Moroccan tagine cooked beans with goats cheese, served in fillo and accompanied by just cooked watermelon with a yoghurt dressing and a pistachio salad - sounds weird, all melded beautifully together for a truly sensational dish. The standout was probably the tea flavoured creme brulee with rhubarb and icecream (which wasn't mine but merely stolen from my friend). Servings are all quite small but I did leave comfortably full.

Service:

Excellent. Friendly, professional and unobtrusive. Meals come out quite quickly given the obvious care that is put into each dish. A palate cleansing sorbet was served between main and entree for a nice touch.

Ambience:

Nice cosy atmosphere and decor. We were there on a week night and the presence of a few large tables didn't disturb us at all (could be different if the restaurant was packed?)

Overall:
Can't wait to go back. Is quite pricey, but well worth it for the excellent food.

Beautiful food! The meals are a little expensive for what you get, but it is designed to allow for a full 4 course meal. I had baramundi which was very well cook with beautiful oyster purees sauce on mash potato. My boyfriend had fillet which was cooked to perfection, but i must say it was a little on the small side for the price which was little disappointing. We had sides of fries and beans which were cooked to be crunchy with a light sage sauce. The wine list was full of good quality wine, many to choose from. I had a south australian glass of white which was sweet and went very well with the fish.

Desert was at the 15 dollar mark, beautifully presented. We had a white chocolate desert with fancy fairyfloss which was so sweet! very nice

Service:

Service was brilliant. They seated us, brought out bread for the table and continually filling up our water glasses. Very polite and ready to answer any question you might have about the menu. Our waiter was nice enough to take a photo of us.

Ambience:

This was my favourite part about the restaurant. The lighting is dim and the restaurant is set out with private booths and classy tables. There is a theme of red and white running though the room.

Overall:
A brilliant place for a 1st date! Me and my boyfriend got very comfy in a booth and had a great night of romance. There was no care in the world that night, felix had it covered.

What a joy! Tuesday night dining always brings out the best in what the restaurant scene in WA can offer. After spending time in Melbourne over the festive season we had been feeling the withdrawal symptoms from good food, good wine and good service. But a night a Bistro Felix was enough to reignite our passion and enthusiasm in food in WA.

Greeted by well trained, friendly staff and promptly shown to our tables, a lovely glass of champagne and a creative confit beetroot and goats cheese amuse bouche certainly helps to get the night off to a good start.

The wine list is extensive, but professional advice was given (interestingly, around a price point that was very reasonable), and a lovely NZ pinot noir was the perfect accompaniment to the dinner.

The menu is small and the dishes complicated, but very satisfying. Entrees range from $20 - $22 and main meals between $35 and $40. For entrée I chose a salmon gravlax which came served with leaks, potatoes, micro herbs and sour cream. Delicious, although lacking somewhat in punchy flavours, salt was needed and brought the dish together. My partner had the prawn ravioli, very prawny, very tasty, but again needing some salt to kick the flavours into gear.

Main course was again well presented and delicious to savor. The confit pork belly was superb, sticky, meltingly tender and matched well with the interesting accompanying vegetables ‘en barigoule’ (carrots, celery, frozen broad beans amongst others). Salt was not required for this one!

The lamb rack, you are aware that comes medium rare, is that OK? Says the waiter, it was disappointingly more medium well than medium rare (we actually heard the kitchen say to the staff to hurry to get it out before it cooked too much more!), and was again lacking in a punchy flavor you’d expect from good restaurant food with this many ingredients. Salt did help things along.

Desert looked interesting, but the problem with Tuesday nights is Wednesday mornings, so we decided to forgo desert and leave happily sated. The discussion over dinner did suggest we'd have been happier with two entrees than an entree and a main, but this was more because the offerings were more interesting for the smaller plates.

Total bill was a smidge under $200 for two, I’d say excellent value for a lovely, if slightly bland, meal with great service, ambient room and wonderful wine.

Well done Bistro Felix, we'll be coming back on a Tuesday again!

Having read fantastic reviews through Eating WA and the print press we ventured to Bistro Felix for a Friday Lunch. Let me say everything we have read and heard about was present for our lunch.

Upon arrival we were offered both the standard menu and the lunch time offerings. We chose the salmon and risotto for entre, the baked chicken and beef and rosemary sausage for mains followed by the white chocolate desert for the both of us.

Entre was fantastic, very balanced and delicate. Presentation was superb and the taste excellent. Mains were a good sized portion; again presentation and taste were excellent.

Desert of white chocolate ice cream and coffees capped of a most enjoyable afternoon.

Total price $88.00 and on a busy Friday lunch time were comfortably done in 1.5 hours. The décor, ambiance and food are all first class.

Well done to team of Bistro Felix for a great day.

On arriving at Bistro Felix, the service was very good. This was our second visit. The first time we enjoyed our entrees and mains but didn't like the desserts. This time we were greeted and seated offered a cocktail, given bread and menus. We asked for tap water. The water tasted as though it needed serious filtering and the bread tasted stale.

My husband had the lamb rack served with parsnip, and a lamb jus which was nice. I had the fish of the day. The fish portion was quite small but nicely cooked, it was served with a cauliflower and chorizo crumble and also had some preserved lemon through it. I thought the crumble was very over powering and didn't enjoy it that much.

We also had dessert. I had the chocolate truffle, creme fraiche pastry, figs and hazelnuts. The combination again didn't work for me. The pastry was dry and needed more of a creamy component, the truffle needed to be sweeter with some liquor. My husband had the white chocolate and pistachio semi- freddo, with turkish delight -this tasted nice. The fairy floss garnish was a bit too much as it hid the whole dessert. So overall the service was great, the food not as good.

Went with a large group of friends (about 10).

Nice friendly ambience.

All of us had entrees and mains.

I had marron which was really good and well prepared.

Only gripe was the mains took about an hour to come after the entrees were served. Our waiter kept coming round to apologise about the delay, but I guess cooking for a large group is never easy.

Had the roast beef rump for mains. Was good, but nothing that stuck to my memory?

Overall good experience, but nothing that made it stand out from the numerous restaurants in Perth now. and I found the menu a little restrictive.

Overall:
In our opinion Perth really lacks a good quota of top quality European style restaurants. So after reading about Bistro Felix in EatingWA and being too late to get into Jacksons or the Loose Box, we were expecting good things. We went for a long hike in the Kalamunda hills; built up an appetite; showered and got ready. Here's the review.

Ambience: is very good. Other reviewers have noted the decor of French prints. A minor point for those who know France -- a Bistro is normally more simple restaurant, but this is top quality one, not really a Bistro. There are also a surprising number of people that can fit in there.

Service: also very good. We were greeted and our coats were taken. Waiters were attentive, but bread was served maybe a little slow. A minor gripe: it would have been nice to have more bread. Why are they so miserly with bread in Australia? It's cheap! In France, it is built into the cost of the meal.

Wine: there is a comprehensive wine list, but as the place has a couple of Sommeliers we took their recommended wines (by the glass). They were really quite excellent. I think we'll be going back, just for the wines. The young African waiter was informative, helpful, and funny. Minor point: the wines were displayed on a small placard, which was a bit tacky, and distracting, I thought. More what you might expect in a real Bistro :-).

Now the Food: it was very good to excellent. The menus on-line are out of date already. So you can't have the Foie Gras risotto. I had instead the waygu beef. It was really quite excellent. Coco had the Marron, as I recall. Excellent! (I had a taste, we always share). For mains I had fish, cooked with skin on and crisp on a bed of vegetables (leek dominated) in a delicate sauce. Coco had the duck. There was a sorbet before the mains to clear the mouth. Stronger tasting but good. For desert Coco had a quite complex construction of semi-freddo and turkish delight with a floss of sugar. I had a simpler chocolate bavarois or something similar. Well. I only eat dark chocolate, but this was really very dark. Pushing the limit I would say. No need for a coffee afterwards!

Price: we came away at $230 for the both of us. So, not cheap. But you get seriously well prepared food.

Overall impressions: very good to excellent. I would certainly go back. However, something was lacking. I can't put my finger on it. Below, I try and give it a go. The nearest restaurant in terms of genre and quality to this one would be the Must wine bar, which I think we both prefer, and is slightly cheaper. However, Felix is a bit quieter than Must.

I think a few simple things could make this restaurant much better. The bread quota has been mentioned. It's great bread, give out more! I might have had more wine, too, to go with that bread. I also thought that, perhaps the chef might have made something special for the day. An amuse-bouche, or something. You expect that, at a restaurant which claims to be of this quality, and charges those prices. The restaurant certainly has the potential to get there. Finally, some petit four at the end of the meal -- maybe with the bill -- would be nice too. You have to go up to the bar to pay, like a Bistro. So there is the same schizophrenia between a top quality restaurant and casual Bistro going on.

Congratulations to the owners. We need to thank them for raising the restaurant stakes in Perth.

Overall:
Luckily enough it was the birthday of a good friend the day we headed to the new Bistro Felix in Subiaco.

The place has gone through a massive change since it was Atlantic Restaurant and the new owner definitely had something very specific in mind before he got to this finished product.

I love the layout, in fact, I loved everything about the style from the crazy pictures on the wall to the very well stocked bar and romantic booth seats up against the wall.

For entree I chose the Risotto of chicken liver, foie gras with peas and bacon, sherry reduction which was amazing. Perfect contrast in textures and the flavours intermingled in any combination you forked them up in. It is a pity that there are a number of people uninsterested in sampling things such as foie gras, because they are definitely missing out on something special with this one.

I also stole part of a guests Pemberton Marron, Kipfler Potato with Bisque Mayonnaise, Sauce Gribiche which was presently beautifully, cooked to perfection and melded well with all the ingredients, hard to go passed!

My guests and I tried various main courses, the beef, pork and duck...check out the menu for a good description of each - http://bistrofelixsubiaco.eatingwa.com.au

Tha standout was the beef, Roast Beef Fillet, Turnip Fondant, Slow-cooked Shallots and Lentils, Red Wine Jus. Although the beef was slightly overdone, it really didn't matter in this instance with the flavours coming through from the other ingredients and still a great deal of flavour within the nice peice of beer I was served up.

Definitely give this one a bash at home, it may take a while to get the combination of ingredients right but would be great for a homestyle dinner party with friends and family.

The great thing about the entree and main menu here, is that you get the suprise of the intricate taste that the Bistro Felix chef has created in each dish, but you know prior to ordering nearly all the ingredients involved and what you are in for.

Everything surpassed the expectations of the tastes we were expecting.

I had the White chocolate and pistachio semi freddo, Turkish delight, saffron fairy floss and for all those who's mouth has already started to water, you're spot on, it was not only the perfect end to the food for the evening, but it still had a delicate lightness to it for something that would tend to come out pretty heavy and involved.

Now onto the wines! The winelist is amazing. I expected such from the rumours about the young owner but it was a perfect match to their menu and to top if off, they had a brilliant sommelier who did his job brilliantly.

If he's any sort of a commission deal he's definitely up for the night after the range of ports we tasted at upwards of $45 a snifter. He was too nice of a guy to say no to!

Overall, this place is definitely not a quick or cheap night out, obviously, but it is going to be one that sticks in your mind for a long time afterwards. Perfect for a romantic evening, double date, and would be a very impressive place to take a first or second date.

I will be back in no time.

This is a relatively new restaurant in the Rokeby Road strip. One of our friends said that it used to be the Atlantic but had been totally refurbished by new operators. We were there at a Moss Wood wine dinner so our meal perhaps wasn't representative of their a la carte menu. But in saying that, the food was stunning. The outstanding dish was a beetroot confit topped with goat's cheese - a superb creation and blend of flavours. The restaurant has a wine list of 400 wines in all price ranges and styles.

While the restaurant calls itself a bistro, I think it has a style up there with Lamont's, Jacksons, and Must Wine Bar.
