Overall:
The service at Blue Mussel was excellent. We were expecting the restaurant to be flashier. The food quality and taste was average. We were hoping they will serve the best mussels in town! Thankfully we were only trying out using our entertainment card.

The father in Law's birthday was the occasion that brought us to the Blue Mussel as he enjoys Seafood. I looked into a couple of other Seafood Restaurants around town and was thoroughly disappointed when they practically had no non-seafood dishes to speak of....as I am not a seafood lover. So I jumped online and found these guys at least gave thought to this. So I went ahead and booked for 8pm for the 6 of us. So...this is a funky little Restaurant, with an exposed ceiling and treated concrete floors, which gives the Restaurant a modern Industrial sort of look, the walls a decked with Modern Canvases....all in all a rather nice looking place. Yet it was rather hot and very noisy, with the kitchen being completely open for the entertainment of the diner and nothing to absorb all that noise. But if this is my only gripe then the Restaurant isn't doing too badly. We had bought a birthday cake in and was happy when we were not charged the fee known as 'cakeage'...which seems to becoming popular in WA these days (all in all I understand why they charge it though). The service was flawless, we had our own waiter that took great care of our group and the food was very tasty, well presented and was delivered to our table promptly and steaming hot....can't complain with that!
Overall:
Went here last week with my nephew on his recommendation. Very noisy as there are lots of hard surfaces and nothing to absorb sound - thank goodness there were only a couple of tables of people on the Tuesday night.
We had the Tapas Plate to start - an excellent array of delectable delights. My favourites were the skinny lamb cutlets and the melt-in-your mouth calamari. Other tastes included a terrine, some fetta and olives, and some crusty Turkish (?) bread. ($32 for two)
I had the Grilled Snapper ($27.50) which was cooked perfectly and served on a bed of mash. But that was it. No salad, no garnish, no vegetables... nothing. And I can't recall the server asking if we wanted salad etc. But that fish looked very insipid sitting on its equally insipid mash. It tasted OK, but it needed a lift in both colour and taste.
Service was good and friendly, but as my nephew knows all the staff very well, I expected that.
I'd hate to go to this place on a busy night. The terrazzo (concrete) floors, no cloths, floor to ceiling glass, and high industrial-style ceilings would make it impossible to carry on a conversation.
Overall:
Staff were friendly and efficient, Best Caesar Salad I've had in ages with the addition of yabbies and followed by great Paella to share, which was huge.
Ambience not bad being next to the railway station deters slightly. Like the wine list great focus on WA wines.

Having had along day yesterday I was famished and out looking for a good meal to close off the day. On the recommendation of a friend we went into the blue mussel. The wait staff was friendly and quick to serve us and also able to recite the daily specials at the drop of a penny w.o needing to refer back to the kitchen - good stuff. My friend had the seafood platter and was reasonably content, bar one of the fish items tasting too fishy (not fresh?). Meanwhile I got stuck into the closest thing I could find to Schnitzel, not being a fan of mussels, and ordered the scalopini with mushroom sauce served on a bed of creamy mash. The portion size was decent and the mushrooms fresh, the sauce was a bit average. Meat was nice and tender but the big disappointment was the 'creamy mash' - you could tell it was re-heated mash from yesterday or leftover from lunch. That kind-of spoiled the experience for me. Like most guests in a restaurant, I expect all my food to be prepared fresh and not re-heated. Atmosphere was funky and stylish but failed to make the mash taste better.

Great chilli mussels!!
We went on a Sunday night, extremely quite. The waitstaff were very friendly but I think they must have told their boys/friends that the boss was not in tonight and they could come in and run a muck.
Also the head (maybe sous)chef left the kitchen to come and talk to some relatives that were dinning.
Personally I don't think chef's should be seen outside the kitchen.
The staff were extremely un-professional (very sweet though) but the food was nice and we weren't forgotten, so i guess i can't really complain...

My wife and i went here some time ago and thought it was superb. The salt and pepper calamari was brilliant as were the mussels. The Blue Mussel has a really modern, trendy atmosphere without being pretentious!
We were so impressed we bought meal vouchers for our family from overseas!
