Food:

My eggs Benedict were delicious. And so they should be at the insane price of $24! The breakfast menu stated that 'no changes to the menu could be made during busy breakfasts' however they did allow my daughter to order a plain pancake (instead of the menu-specified pancakes with strawberry maple syrup and toasted coconut). However to charge $12.50 for two plain pikelets with maple syrup is really too much. I am not sure how they can get away these ridiculous prices. Not to mention the 10% surcharge on weekends! Gasp!! On the plus side, my latte was the best I've ever had and my daughter's chocolate milkshake was equally excellent, both decently priced at $4.50.

Service:

It took a good 15 minutes to for our coffees to arrive and as I had to leave our group's brunch early I asked the waitress if she could 'prioritise' my meal (not being too hopeful of being able to leave 'on-time'). Surprise surprise my meal arrived within 10 minutes which impressed.

Ambience:

Gorgeous views over the river although a little 'cavernous' inside. A plus for us was the kids playground outside.

Overall:
Great food, but at a cost. I probably wouldn't return in a hurry unless I won the Lotto. Perhaps a nice place to take your overseas visitors (if they offered to pay!). To pay over $50 for a basic brunch for one adult and a four year old child is a bit rich. Also was not pleased that as I had to leave our group early, no separate billing was possible, although the restaurant was very quiet.

We used to come here quite a lot when we lived in South Perth but we hadn’t been for a few months and went one Monday night for a celebratory dinner. The service was excellent, as always, the staff give you the perfect amount of attention and never allow your water glass to remain empty for too long. I can’t remember what we had paid for meals there previously (maybe about $35?) but the food seemed a lot more expensive than it used to be. It was the same, quite high quality fare that we’d had before but hurt the hip pocket much more. I doubt that we would return there for a main meal solely due to the price increase but I’m not sure I can stay away completely; you would be hard pressed to beat a Boatshed afternoon tea overlooking the city drinking coffee and eating their divine profiteroles.

When we arrived we were amazed by the location and by the décor of the restaurant. Customers can certainly enjoy a magnificent view of Perth city.

But when we gave a look to the menu our positive feelings were already fading away; the menu had changed from the one we checked on the net and unfortunately this one had only a minimal number of dishes, which we did not sound particularly appealing to us.

Although, since it would have been too rude to stand up and leave, we decided to stay and hope for the best.

As entrée I had some beef filet with spinach in filo pastry; these rolls were absolutely great the beef was cooked to perfection, it was tasty and soft and the accompaniment sauce matched perfectly. My boyfriend had some scallops and he was a bit upset with his dish since they were simply grilled scallops with some lemon juice and julienne vegetables. As mains I opted for the fish of the day that happened to be a coral reef snapper with mash potatoes fried Cajun calamari and a citrus sauce; this dish was pretty good, but nothing I could have not made at home. Again it was just some grilled fish on a bed of mash, certainly delicious but not worth it $42. My boyfriend had the beef fillet with a spiced mash; the dish was very tasty and the meat was cooked has requested, certainly a better choice than mine.

We were quite full after the mains since they don’t skip on portions. Though we couldn’t get over the home made sticky date pudding, which was as always delicious.

The service was very good not intrusive, but attentive.

The all meal without drinks came out to be $170. Overall we will not go back, since it’s definitely overpriced for what they offer. You pay for the location rather than the food. But personally I perfect to enjoy an outstanding dish without a view rather than an average one with a beautiful view.

On the spur of the moment Sunday lunch. Greeted and seated immediately with a glass of iced water and menus. What a shock! For an unlicensed premise the prices were exorbitant. BLT $25.00 - this was on the light lunch menu. Other prices up to $40 for main course. These prices were more than some 5 Star restaurants that we have visited. Food was good but did not reflect the prices charged. Will certainly not be revisiting.

Being our fourth wedding anniversary, my husband and I decided to re-live the our first date and go for dinner at the boatshed. It was a Thursday night quite balmy and the view was just fantastic. The restaurant wasn't full and we had excellent attention from the waiters that kept our water glasses filled.

We decided to share a portion of chicken spring rolls for starters, which unfortunately the portion size was way too small, but were so flavorsome.

I ordered the fish of the day, which was superbly cooked and my husband ordered beef (well done - and that’s exactly what it was!)

Deserts were great, especially the lemon-lime brulee which tasted like it was home made, though the waiter advised me it was from the "cakebox" and the portion size was huge. My husband ordered mudcake which was extremely rich but of average expectation.

Overall, we had a great time and definitely will return again :-)

Overall:
The restaurant has a fantastic situation on the South Perth foreshore with fantastic views of the city lights. We were in a largish group (12 or so) and ate from a set menu with a choice of mains.

The prawn entree was rather bland and the prawns themselves were tasteless. The main courses were huge (too big really). One of the party complained that his steak, although well-cooked was too big and that he would rather have had a smaller steak and more vegetables. My crispy-skinned chicken was beautifully cooked but served with enough potato mash to feed a small army. Most of the party had seafood - general consensus was that the fish was good and well-cooked but the garnish of calamari rings was tough and few people ate them.

Dessert was icky-sticky pudding with caramel sauce, served after a lengthy wait at just slightly warmer than room temperature and probably better described as 'odgy-stodgy' pudding.

As far as service was concerned we were either overwhelmed or ignored and the restaurant was far from full.

Basically, although all the meat/fish in the main course was well-cooked the the overall impression was that the dishes didn't quite work. I would like to see a greater variety of vegetables rather than huge quantities of one.

Overall:
Fuelled by a brisk morning walk along the River I was very keen to stop at this place as I thought its setting, right on the River, would provide a gorgeous backdrop to a nice breakfast.

Indeed the restaurant is excellently placed to provide views whilst you eat, unfortunately they seem to try to hard to capitalise on this by placing all of their tables squashed together near the windows. If the tables hadn't already been very small, this might not have been such an issue but we certainly felt that out party of four was squeezed very tightly into a space much more fitting for two and when our food came, we had to balance coffee cups on side dishes and had, literally, no room for an orange juice that we had ordered.

The wait staff were friendly and efficient, apart from failing to bring us water despite several requests, and my food - buttermilk pancakes with fresh fruit and cream were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately a couple of the other diners didn't do so well, with complaints of cold meals and rubbery eggs that had clearly been under the hot plate for too long.

I didn't look at the dinner menu but judging by the tempting sounding breakfast options, I would expect it to be interesting. It was a shame that we didn't have more space, as that really did impact negatively on the experience, however, I would go back, maybe with a fellow pancake lover, because that stack and the view was great.
