The food they offer is good, its similar to what you might make at home a few salads to choose from (that i have made at home before). I had the greek feta and spinach in filo pastry that comes with a side salad which seemed to be put together well unfortunately they obviously think its ok to warm filo pastry in the microwave so it got to me quite soft and was not warmed up properly, not the best.
The service is what ruined my experience here. The waiter who took the orders got them wrong and when we were served our lunches we let him know that it was wrong, he basically told me that this is what we ordered and we'd have to put up with it and walked off.
Its tiny, dirty and by the looks of the prep area behind the counter it looks very unhygenic. The trinkets it has around the place are nice, but they really need to get a cleaner in. It is to tiny in there and the fact that they have squashed so many tables makes it very hard to get into a chair.
Overall:
The man that does the coffee was extremely rude to the group i was with and he makes you feel like he is doing you a massive favour by taking your order. If you dare to ask what the cakes are they have on display, i pity you as he will not want to share this info. Plus if you want to pay by EFT get ready for him to give you dirty looks and sighs. This is a very unfriendly cafe and i will never go there again.
Boucla is a first stop for a real coffee when I return from the Pilbara each month.
I have coffee shops at my door step in Leedeville but travel to Subi for the quality. Without a doubt this guy makes the best coffee in Perth. It is always consistent in flavour, crema and temperature. I don't usually bother with a meal but often settle for the nut tart, which has a texture and flavour that lingers in your mouth long after it has been swallowed. I have tried most of the other dessert cakes there which are all great. The nut tart looks ordinary is simply unbelievable. Just 3 more weeks to go...
Every time I go there it is just flat out, somehow they get your order out in no time with a minimum of fuss in extremely confined space. The staff are inevitably happy despite the pressure they must be under.
The ambience is akin to a Moroccan bazaar with eclectic bits and pieces everywhere, lots of colour and style fill the void. It is a feast for the eyes while you wait and often a distraction to conversation but also a conversation piece. The customers are a varied bunch of interesting characters.
Overall:
If this restaurant doesn't serve the best coffee in Perth then I don't know which does.
Overall:
I love this cafe. It is one of the few places in Perth that you can walk into and feel as if you have been transported to another country. The decor is amazing and I love sitting looking at all the different tea pots, paintings and light fixtures. Nothing in Boucla matches yet everything fits together so well.
Coffee there is good, probably a result of a practiced barista. I have never seen anyone other than the same guy making coffee there. Boucla has an amazing array of cakes and treats and the baklava is to die for! You can also get decent lunch meals like Mediterranean couscous, Greek salad, paninis, bagels and much more.
The tiny court yard outside is small and intimate and lovely to sit in on a nice day. The only frustration with Boucla is that it is quite small and always packed. If you want a table you may not always get one and if you do it is often very close to other customers. Boucla is not just about good food and good coffee but rather it is an experience in itself. I could spend hours at this cafe with a good book and watch the day go by.
