Welcome to Box Deli

Box Deli

BOX Deli, conveniently located on Hay Street in the CBD, is Perth's own taste of Down Town Manhattan. The unique rectangular layout coupled with the cool and sophisticated ambience mirrors the image of the stylish lounge bar scene so popular in New York.

Downstairs the space boasts a sensational bar, designed in chic white and stainless steel, where the award winning bar staff can help you to choose from a selection of sexy and delicious cocktails, premium beers and the finest of wines which have been carefully compiled by John Ditullio, our talented and experienced Bar Manager.

You may choose to have your drink at the bar, meander over to the lounge area which is a little more private, or head upstairs to the mezzanine level for a different view altogether.

Food:

Have only had finger food but it was top quality. I must say the salt & pepper squid was THE best I've had anywhere in the world!! The other items (sausage rolls, party pies etc) were also very good.

Service:

When it was quiet, the service was more than acceptable but when busy the bar staff seemed quite flustered and possibly needed more help.

Ambience:

Once again this varied dramatically between when I went during the week and after work on a Friday. Was a lovely venue midweek to just chill on a couch with a glass of wine, some tapas and watch the people walking past but on a Friday it was loud, packed and very very hot!! Very funky decor.

Overall:
I would go there again during the day but not after work on a Friday. The salt & pepper squid alone would draw me back!!

Food:

No, Box deli, no!
Trio of dips - bland. One was green, one was sweet jam. another was balsamic. Not much imagination there.
The girlfriend ordered Roasted capsicum and feta soup. She tasted some and didn't recognize the taste. Of course she didn't. It was bacon and potato.
When feeding meat to a veggie, JUST SAYING SORRY AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH!! What's next? Peanut surprise in all the dishes?
Osso bucco - tough, with little 'osso' to put in my 'bucco'. Watery, mushy rice. Improperly seasoned.
Marinara - Just bland. Try fresh tomatoes, or making some fish stock. Use some salt.
Kangaroo - Beautiful piece of meat, and perfectly cooked. But you guessed it, jus was tasteless.

In summary, anyone could do better at home. I'm saddened.

Quite good. No real apology for giving a veggie some bacon, no free coffee or the like. In fact, the coffee here is great. As are the cocktails.

Love it. This place has real potential. Shame about the food.

Overall:
Why would you do this to me? I recommended to a few friends we go there last night, after enjoying the place several times about a year ago (Oxtail lasagna special was the best lasagna I've ever had. period. The Italians had nothing on this).
Last night, the food was best described as 'boring'. Nice place, good cocktails. Maybe just go there for drinks before heading to a real restaurant
