I ordered a vegetarian meal, and as a carnivore from way back, found the gnocchi to be sensational! My partner ordered a surf and turf kind of meal and we both enjoyed that too! The portion size was very good value for money. I wasn't able to finish mine off - but maybe that was because I ordered a side serve of veg, which was an inspiration because the cheese sauce with the gnocchi was very creamy and cheesy. The broccoli and beans cut through the richness of the meal beautifully.

The surf and turf meal was served with a mushroom gravy that was heavily reduced to save the richness of the ingredients involved. The beer that my partner chose suited this meal, as did my white wine - chosen from an extensive list.

The service was great. The waitresses were very accommodating and were very apologetic due to the ambiance of the restaurant. The waitresses left us to choose our meals in peace, but returned in a timely manner to take our orders and delitover the meals. Very appreciative - thanks.

Ambience:

My partner and I did not mind, in the least, the raucous behavior of the customers in the bar area (that is situated very closely to the eating area) because it is, after all, a pub. I did have a problem with the close quarters shared with the other customers who were eating their meals.

Overall:
Would recommend to people who are open minded to their surroundings. LOVED the gnocchi so much that I had to replicate in my own kitchen later on!

We ate in the Bar Area, and ordered over the bar counter.

The chicken burger was more than just the average processed chicken lettuce and mayo, it had caramelised onions and tasty sauce, served with plenty of chips.

The fish and chips were great too. Crispy batter and moist fish, served with chips and salad. The salad was also quite tasty and generous. Top bar food!

Service was great, I asked for cracked pepper and received it immediately. Friendly staff.

Beer garden was full and is was a nice day to sit outside.

Overall:
Great experience. Huge portions and good value for money.

We ordered the Chunky Wedges to start. To our horror this dish had been microwaved. We were presented with wedges that were stone cold on the top, boiling hot wedges in the middle and soggy!

We then decided against the wedges and chose the bread and dips which was passable although the bread seemed microwaved again.

Caesar salad as a main was just a huge bowl of cos lettuce with cheap matchstick size bacon and horrible chunky salty croutons, the parmesan was the only saving grace, this was tasty.

The vegetarian risotto presented like a bowl of vomit, white mush with chunks of diced pumpkin. Where was the spinach?

Very disapointing.

Service:

Appalling. Our waitress did not even begin to offer an apology for the wedges and seemed genuinely surprised that we no longer wanted them? Completely inattentive, we sat with our finished mains in front of us for 30 mins, whilst countless staff drifted by. Disgraceful, and all too common in Perth

Ambience:

For a Saturday night the place was only half full, quite plesant on the balcony overlooking the huslte and bustle of Northbridge.

Overall:
We started downstairs in the bar and should have stayed there for our meal as the bar snacks looked well priced and tasty. For a central famous Northbridge icon this experience was so disappointing. The lack of punters on a Saturday night should surely be ringing alarm bells?

Overall:
We visited the upstairs "Grill" restaurant.

Fairly slack service from as soon as we got there.

Food was good, although for a big steak focused restaurant the cooking of the meat was not fantastic. Produce was first class but a rare steak should at least have some 'pink' showing. The rest of the meals served were good quality and also decent size serves.

No salt or pepper on tables and we had to ask to get some pepper by walking to the bar area to attract some attention from the staff.

Balcony area was nice and the fell was certainly good. I think they have to decide what they are trying to be. With cloth on the table tops and paper napkins they left you a bit confused to what they were trying to achieve.

As mentioned, overall service experience was disappointing with no effort by staff to check on us or provide any additional drinks or coffees etc...

It would be worth another try and hope they got some staff or management interested in serving people.
