Food:

Always excellent! Lunch - try the Beez Neez fish and chips or one of the baguettes. Dinner - we can't go past the lamb (sometimes a rack, sometimes rump) and the steak (tender ridge scotch fillet mostly). Always cooked to perfection. Veges, if you have them, are cooked perfectly too. And the mini loaves of fresh-cooked bread are to die for.

In the many meals we've had here, I've only had two ordinary experiences - one was where the wedges were overcooked; the other was the squid with the coleslaw salad, I just didn't like it and it wasn't what I expected.

There are two wine lists, one is just of local Blackwood Valley wines, so make sure you ask for it if it isn't given to you. The Scotts Brook Shiraz is perfect with lamb or steak.

Always good. Friendly.

Ambience:

Restaurant is off the main bar, so sometimes (like Friday nights) it can get a bit noisy and hectic, especially with all the wooden furniture, wooden floors, and glass.

Overall:
Always excellent! Being a local, I've eaten here often, and we always take guests here. Our guests also rave about the food.

Overall:
Well, where to start!

On a recent visit to Bridgetown, I dined with my parents at this fabulous place for the first time, and wowee! Considering its humble country town location, what a hidden treasure of a place!

The hotel restaurant, due to its rising popularity, was all booked out the night before, so we opted for the following night instead, and weren't disappointed - it was well worth the wait.

Upon arriving early, we ordered a bar tab at the bar and had some drinks in the bar area before our meal. One of the first things I noticed was how hip the place was - modern, stylish decor and a cool yet friendly local atmosphere. I was also immediately impressed at how friendly and personal the service was, particularly from the main waitperson. This remained consistent throughout the night.

Once we were seated, the ambience of the place made me feel very comfortable indeed, with tables neatly set out and soft, dimmed atmospheric lighting - just how I like it!

Entrees were delicious - we ordered the toasted (Turkish?) bread with two very yummy dips, one with beetroot and the other a type of relish. Not too filling, but a generous serving for three.

The mains - out of this world. I ordered the vegetable stack, with uncertain expectations. When it came out, I was in awe of it - a gourmet pyramid of egglant, mushrooms, pumpkin and delicate little sweet potato crisps beautifully garnishing it, with a sprinkling of melted cheese and a very rich sauce (I shall have to return to the restaurant now and find out what was in that sauce!)

My stepfather, who like most blokes is quite precious about his steak, declared that this was quite possibly the best steak he has ever tasted. Mum equally enjoyed her vegetarian pasta dish. Great to see such an impressive variety of options for those with different dietary preferences in this day and age!

I couldn't resist trying one of the scrumptious cakes for dessert, and ordered the chocolate honeycomb cake with a liquer coffee. Both were exceptional - the coffee was beautiful and rich - probably best appreciated on its own. Meanwhile the cake was to die for, such a generous serving that I had to request a doggy bag!

The main waiter came over to our table at certain intervals for a chat and a chuckle...a big personality and a great sense of humour. We were informed that the chef was originally employed at Burswood and was offered the job at Bridgetown, and surprisingly accepted it. What a lucky find this has been for this town. For atmosphere, great service and excellent food, this place has the package, and perhaps the proof that you don't have to be in the city to enjoy a fabulous dinner. I haven't had such an amazing dining experience in the city that compares to this place in a long time, perhaps ever.
