The food here is touch and go. One night, my husband, brother-in-law and mum-in-law all ordered the same dish and two were delicious and one was absolute rubbish. Not sure how that happened, but it did. They do have a lot of vegetarian options (more than most places in Australia, at least), but they are horrifyingly expensive, considering what, exactly, you're eating. All of the prawn dishes - as well as the ribs - were less expensive than my vegetable stack. The cannelloni, another vegetarian option, was completey flavorless and sat like lead in your stomach. The quantity (the size of your head) does not make up for the complete lack of quality. Luckily, the beer is plentiful, though the selection isn't very broad.
This is a serve yourself kind of place. Once you get your food, you're on your own. We got stuck in the back shed because the cookhouse was full, so there was no service whatsoever. We'd also have to ask the girl behind the bar for the same thing three times before we got it.
The prices would lead you to believe that this is a place to take your spouse or family for a semi-casual dinner, but if you're in the CookHouse, it's like being at Chuck-E-Cheese (screaming children), and the BackShed is full of drunken people watching sport. A good place for a beer and wedges.
Overall:
I would never, ever come here for a meal again. The idea of eating the terrible food turns my stomach enough, and the fact that we'd be paying anything for it, let alone $22.50 makes it unimaginable. We have gone back to Brooklands, but strictly for a few beers and to see Hell's Bells perform. But even then, we ended up leaving early because the whole experience was unenjoyable (and we got our tickets weeks in advance because we were so excited). I guess it's more a place for the drinkers.
