the food was tasty and you get a lot of meat instead of sauce in your meal. we ordered the vegtable jai frezi with chicken. it was filling but i would have liked it to have a bit more of a kick to it.

the service was pretty appalling. when we first arrived they asked us if we wanted drinks straight away even before we had time to look at the menu. we had to call the waiter over to take our order and there are waiters working who can't even take drink orders.

its a pumping place to music is loud and there are a lot of younger women there i think dresses inappropriately to eat curry!!!

it is very annoying to see other tables getting better looked after than your own table. its also very annoying t order drinks to come with your dinner and not have them arrive till after the dinner. It is also annoying when staff even when they write own you order to not be able to bring out the entrees together. if it wasn't for the food i wouldn't go back to this place again.

When I first walked in here, I was really blown away by the decor. I loved the layout, it was like walking into a dimly lit and funky cave.

Unfortunately, the night went pear shaped due to the service.

initially service was fine but we did not get all of our meals and despite alerting the staff on several occasions and being reassured that they were coming, the total wait for the last meals was approximately 45 mins after the rest table had eaten and were ready to leave.

the wait staff did not appear to know how to handle our complaint, so appeared to avoid our table which only made matters worse.

i felt the lamb korma was bland and i was disappointed. I also felt that the meals were quite small for the price paid but it was reasonably priced for subi area.

this place has a great feel, but we were let down in a big way, by staff who didn't appear to know how to handle a complaint in service.

our total bill was discounted, but only after asking for it and going to lengths to describe to the manager and staff what had happened.

i would not recommend this venue to a large group.

Lucky number 88 on Rokeby Road for this Asian/Indian fusion restaurant with the glowing red Buddha on the front. The entrance as noted previously is basically a door with a lit sign above it (see review by 'Laura'), but enter through a long hallway and you snake into the bowels of the restaurant with private booths and a larger area capable of medium sized functions. Glowing blue and red orbs hang from the ceiling; giant Thai Buddha heads and painted dragon adorn the premise. This type of restaurant-slash-bar establishment is popular in the Eastern states and finds home here in hip Subi. Drink orders are attended to fast and throughout the night. For starters we order the chicken 65, which sounds enticing with its description of chicken pieces marinated overnight in yoghurt and spices and then fried. They turn out to be mini pieces of Tandoori chicken, which disappointed me somewhat, but are delicious dipped in the accompanying cool mint chutney. We also sampled some of the chilli beef entree, which is hot and very good, but for twice the price and half the size of the very good chilli beef from my very good local Chinese restaurant. Service is very slick. New plate, cutlery and napkin after entree.

The menu is quite good. You can order curries and things to share with separate rice/sides or mains with the dish plus rice on the plate. I share an aloo palak and the lamb mappas. For accompaniment, we order a lime scented Jasmine rice, which is beautiful! It is very light, but the smell scent (pun intended) me to heaven. Also a butter naan. Take note that the servings here are a bit on the small size. The rice comes in the same size gold bowls as the curries and there are only two smallish strips of naan each per serving. I don’t eat much as I am small and the curries are rich, but just in case you like your naan the size of a family pizza base. The aloo palak despite not looking like much on the menu turns out to be beautiful light and spicy golden potato, green peas and fried onions. Kimmik contributes the excellent choice to ability to spot innate talent. The lamb curry, with a coconut and coriander gravy is also delicious. I apologise for eating the lamb. May I be henceforth haunted with nightmares involving Sam Neil chasing after me with mint sauce and a meat fork.

Overall, a slightly expensive, but an enjoyable experience. Many of the dishes are standard Asian fare (fried rice, green curry etc) but without the hawker savadamoney price tag. Not the most novel restaurant idea anymore either as the Asian fusion theme is becoming a bit commonplace with everyone seeming to have a giant stone Buddha head in their backyard, but the ambience is quite good. The loud dance music makes it a little hard to talk over and we experienced issues with the air-conditioning not reaching us, but this is in the bigger area where they set up the long function tables. It seems to be better where the booths and smaller tables are. The humidity was ok on the night we went, but perhaps they should look into this issue before the heat of summer cranks up. Went for my partner’s birthday about 12 of us altogether. Its a neat set up.

Drinks were served promptly and regularly. We got steamed baskets (yummo) and mixed breads. Our mains came out all together within reasonable time of each other. Satay beef was good, but nothing much like chinese shop takeaway! The chilli beef was yum and hot!!! There was a dish that was mainly made of rice, but it was full of coriander, too over powering they said, and considering it wasn't noted on the description and they weren't fans of the flavour they weren't happy.

The cocktail list is like Christmas!!!! We must of seemed like a bunch of alco children!!! The mudslide was hard to surpass!!! Even the special of the day was pretty good.

Recommended - esp for small gatherings.

Went to experience the Buddha bar for the first time for a friend's birthday on Saturday.

There's not much of an entrance, other than a small door, hence the reason I'd never tried the place.

The decor inside is quite funky and stylish. It's not a very large place but sufficient seating for functions.

We had a set menu for $30 per head. Was slightly on the more expensive side as the dishes to share were quite small. The quality of the food was still quite good - with quite a variety.

Overall, quite a nice place to meet with friends before heading out to Subi, or even for a function, such as a birthday.
