Generous serving of food at a reasonable price. I had the warm chicken salad, which was quite satisfying. My partner had the Penne Arbriatto (not 100% sure how to spell it), which he said was quite nice. Kids menu is really good, with the kids favourites available with little fanfare, which is good for fussy eaters.
Service was ok, and the chef was out and about keeping a general eye on things. But we were not asked if we wanted another drink for quite a while after our glasses were empty, which considering it was not busy was pretty poor.
Very out dated deco, would probably be good to up grade the inside a bit to give it some life. Really quiet restaurant if you want to avoid the noise of the main strip.
Overall:
Been wanting to try this place for a while, and am pleased that i did. It wasn't anything special, but it was reasonably priced and it had good sized meals. Would go there again.
Overall:
A friend and I found this place on a Sunday afternoon after wandering up the cafe strip in Freo looking for some decent pasta and not liking the ambience (and price range) of the cafe's on the main strip. We used to go to Hugo's for many years but that's been closed for quite a while and we haven't had Italian in Freo for ages.
I'd walked past Caesar's a number of times but never gone in, this time we decided to give it a go. The decor is very quaint, and gives you something to look at while waiting for your meal. Something I find that lacks in many modern cafes that only have art deco and minimalist styles of decor. Here you have a large water feature with goldfish, widely spaced tables to give a bit of privacy and quietly tucked away in the arcades away from the bustle of the main strip.
We ordered the Fettucine Pollo and Pumpkin Ravioli (to which I cannot remember the Italian name for) and it was delicious. When offered parmesan cheese we were not shortchanged, with a very generous bowl of fresh parmesan. The sauces were not too heavy but still thick and creamy and the chicken was tender and not overcooked.
Prices were fairly average at $15.50 for a small but generous serve. Having seen the large serves I think it would be quite easy to share one of those between two. Even better value if you go on the $10 pizza and pasta days.
Overall:
We went with a group of 10 on a Tuesday night. It was just a quick stop in before we went to a show and most of us took advantage of the cheap pizza and pasta.
I had the smaller size of the chilli mussels and found them to be one of the best I've ever had. The sauce was really tomato-ey like a spaghetti sauce, with just the right hint of chilli and lemon. My husband had a pizza which was massive and he also enjoyed it.
The service was good, but it wasn't amazing and I can imagine that it would be lacking during a busy night. The one thing that got to me was that even though there were only 4 other tables occupied at the time, they wouldn't allow us to pay separately, so we all had to scrounge around for the right cash. I understand not doing this when it is busy but it annoys me when they obviously have plenty of time.
Overall, I'd liken this place to Siena's as far as prices and ambience go, but I preferred this place to Siena's and would choose it over Siena's any day.
Overall:
Just set back from the Cafe strip of Fremantle is a little slice of Italy. To get the true feel you must dine inside and enjoy the fabulous paintings and decor, also a lot quieter than the hustle and bustle of 'The Strip'. Definitely for the nice romantic dinner yet not too starchy or yuppie.
The size of the meals are great (especially the parmigana) and very reasonably priced.
Average main approx $19 - $21. Fully lic. yet again very reasonable.
They too have a pasta and pizza night ($10.95) from Tuesday to Thursday or any main for ($15.95) I think.
