Overall:
I guess someone has to be the first reviewer so here goes.
I have found this a difficult restaurant to review as some things are very, very good yet others I found quite annoying.
Jojo's is at the old Nedlands Baths (my old stamping ground where I learned to swim) and is a typical cafe in appearance. No table linen, paper napkins and uncomfortable wooden chairs. The outlook however is really lovely being built over the river so all tables have a view.
The menu is typical cafe fare with limited choices and a couple of daily specials that were described to you, no board to help you remember! This would not be hard to do and is the type of attention to detail that sets the good apart from the ordinary.
Our group of five saw the three ladies choose Turkish bread and trio of dips to share. The bread was nicely toasted but not enough provided to finish the dips that they assured us were tasty, a Sundried Tomato, Beetroot and a Hommus. The gentlemen both chose the inevitable Salsiccia served with toasted Turkish bread. a "bitter" tasting few salad greens and a small bowl of Fetta and Olives. Tasty without being spectacular.
Mains chosen by our group included a well cooked "fish of the day" Pink Snapper served with seasonal vegetables that were again well cooked (still with the crunch factor)the usual mash was by request not served. Two chose Beef fillet medallions served on an attractive Sweet Potato mash with a small quantity of veges. The men again chose the same, a Veal Ribeye with chips and Salad. The Ribeye was of a size to satisfy any carnivore, beautifully cooked "medium" as requested, and meltingly tender, a small bowl of chips was plated and they were nicely crisp and hot but the salad disappointed again being somewhat bitter on the palate and undressed! We were not offered a dressing and no oil and vinegar was in evidence on any table.
A selection of cakes were available as well as a good quality icecream chosen by two of our party.
We finished with coffee of average quality.
I have not mentioned beverages until now as yet again I was annoyed at the prices being charged. I cannot accept that $36.30 is a fair price for Vasse Felix Classic White however that was probably the best buy available! In addition I don't like a 10% surcharge on a Saturday night when no penalty rates apply!!
Perhaps this is the reason the restaurant was only just over half full.
The quality of the food being provided deserves better support from management pricing policies for this restaurant to achieve its full potential afforded by its unique location.
