Overall:
Last Wednesday night we went to Café Ventura in Ballajura for dinner. Having not headed that way for a night out before, we were interested to see what we might find. What we found was all good – a nice, family restaurant in the suburbs, which was quite full when we arrived at 7pm - I think that was a good indication of what was to come.
We were greeted and shown to our table by one of the attentive waitresses and asked if we’d like a drink to start. The wine list wasn’t overflowing with selection, but there was enough of a range to choose something at all price ranges. I had training on the Thursday morning, so I didn’t drink, but Bree ordered a glass of white wine and I ordered some garlic bread – which was great!
For entrée I went for a dozen oysters Kilpatrick (again!) and Bree went for the calamari salad. The oysters were nice, but I found the bacon to be a little fatty – something I’m always aware of now that I’m back in training. Bree’s calamari salad was a good size and she said it was delicious.
Our entrees were cleared and for mains we both went for fish – I had the Tasmanian Salmon which came served on an oriental salad of vermicelli, steamed bok choy and a sesame dressing. It was really tasty and once I finished was really full. Bree went for the fish of the day which was Snapper served with a potato rosti and asparagus wrapped with prosciutto. This was also a large meal and Bree said it was lovely. She especially liked the asparagus.
Once our mains were cleared we were offered desserts. There was a large selection, but again we were both too full to fit anything in! Bree ordered a liquor coffee which looked very impressive on arrival! Once she finished that she was well and truly full to the brim.
The menu at Café Ventura is great for all ages. It has all of the typical meals that appeal to the everyday person – Garlic Prawns, Fish and Chips, Chicken Parmagiana and Lamb Shanks to name a few.
We came to the consensus that if we’re ever out Ballajura way again we wouldn’t hesitate to drop into Café Ventura for a nice meal to fill us up!
Until next time, happy eating!
