  • Overall the service from the beginning to the end was so terrible I wouldn't go back there. We had a booking and had to wait for a seat even though we were on time. Then we waited forty five minutes for drinks. The food was nice but the service at the Hyatt the entire day was terrible

  • Standard buffet. Seafood was okay. Long queue for the hot food?? Once the food was on the plate, everyone made a dash and grab for it. Bit like a market. The lamb cutlets was nice, some were over cooked. The roast was not very nice. BLAND! The dessert was the major let down. Such a huge variety, but the only thing remotely nice was the bread and butter pudding with the ice cream.

  • Food is at a very good standard for a buffet setting. The seafood was fresh and plentiful (lovley crab & king prawns), and we thoroughly enjoyed the antipasto offerings including smoked salmon, cold meats, stuffed olives etc. Main course was not of such a great standard but still better than typical buffet food. Dessert included a very good range of pastries, cakes slices and mouses/souffles - we especially liked the freshly cooked waffles.

  • Main complaint is that the tables were set close together, so close in fact that we felt we had to have a brief discussion with the table next to us so that we wouldn't be dining with strangers. The lighting was good though, muted over the dining area but well lit over the food stations.

  • An enjoyable evening. Wouldn't recommend it to "hard-core" buffet enthusiasts, but the selection is likely to satisfy the average diner. Perfect place to take mum / dad / grandma / granddad for a birthday lunch.

  • This was once the premier up market buffet in Perth, and how times have changed. While my wife and I were at Curtin Uni this was the place to go for the end of semester nosh up. Being students and therefore poor-ish, we appreciated the copious amounts of quality seafood, salads and desserts which were a visual feast awaiting us. Sadly since the renovation, the word stingy has entered the menu. Gone are the myriad of salads, the seafood is well sadly diminished (they once had prawns, yabbies, cured reef fish, and crabs). The hot food has improved but hey when you offer pizza try put out more than three slices for the whole restaurant.

  • This has become somewhat poor, there was a time that when you went up for more delights, by the time you returned to the table all used plates were taken away and the napkin was folded on the seat arm. Not so now, it's more sizzler then the cafe.

  • Excellent food. The highlight for me was the smoked salmon and the seafood (I could have gone there and only eaten the seafood and come away very happy). Although it is a buffet mains are cooked to order at their cooking station. For the family it was perfect. My 4 year old had a wood fired pizza and my 6 year old had the penne. Both kids wanted more and that was even before we hit the desert buffet. With kids it is a major advantage being able to directly tell the chef how you want it. The grilled prawns were also great. The desert station was more like a typical buffet although they did do waffles to order. The quality of the mango sorbert was a great finish. The quality of the food was absolutely the best.

  • Our favourite buffet in Perth. This place is divine, and you'll need to book. The food does not taste mass produced at all - in fact, it is excellent and everything is so flavoursome and carefully prepared. The offerings are quite gourmet too.

The seafood was incredibly fresh and delicious, and there was plenty of it. Desserts were likewise fabulous for a buffet and service was the best we've ever had in a buffet setting. Definitely worth a try, this is the only buffet that we could give 5 stars to.

  • I always enjoy my experience at Cafe at the Hyatt, and dinner there was no exception. There is an array of cold salads, meats, and seafood, with mussels, salmon, prawns, crab, oysters and I think yabbies, and these kept all of us quite happily occupied. The hot food was not exceptional, though my daughters enjoyed the little potato croquets, and I had a piece of fish. I think there was also roast lamb, turkey, emu, and some vegetarian dishes. Although it was a buffet, service was very good and dirty plates were whisked away and drink orders taken as soon as you would wish. There was a huge array of desserts, and we all enjoyed a bit of gluttony with 5 or 6 samples on each plate. The sticky date pudding was absolutely divine, and I went away happy. The price for dinner is $50 for adults and $25 for children. It was a little steep considering what my 5 and 6 year old ate, but all in all it was a lovely dinner and something I don't mind doing for a special occasion. I definitely recommend going for the lunch buffet, which is more modestly priced but has the same foods.

    V
  • Whenever my parents make their yearly Summer sojourn to Perth, we never fail to have the buffet lunch at the Café on Hyatt. Over the years, prices have increased steadily but at $32 on a weekday with oysters, it is still absolutely good value (more so if you have the Entertainment card). However, for young children at $16 is a little steep and I prefer the costing at other establishments that go according to the child’s age.

We have only been very disappointed once which was last year when the oysters were off. To my dad’s utmost relief, although not plump, the oysters were fresh. The cold spread had the usual hams, salads, mussels, prawns and my favourites the smoked salmon with onion & capers and grilled vegetables. For this month, they had a special tomato section and I only sampled the cherry tomatoes stuffed with mushrooms which was a nice combination. I have never been partial to tomato soup and hence bypassed it for the pumpkin soup which was wholesome.

The hot food would have not been such a success if not for the salmon pieces. Even then, they could have been cooked a couple of minutes less but nevertheless it was not dry. The spiral pasta was supposed to have a creamy sauce but I hardly tasted anything and did not see a cauldron of sauce sitting anywhere either. The roast pork & beef were tender enough but the lamb chops looked rather charred especially since they were marinated with honey.

The dessert table had the usual favourites like bread & butter pudding, sticky date pudding and caramel custard. Unsure if this is a new addition but they had this light purple cake coated with coconut desiccation that nobody touched. I braved it for my daughter due to her keen persistence and was I glad she pestered me. I have got to say the cake did not look particularly appealing and was also cut into full slices so it probably was a combination of both that discouraged diners from sampling it. It was rather light and had custard sandwiched between. I persuaded the rest of our party to get a slice and as we left the café we noticed that nobody else had still tried it as only 4 pieces were gone and that was taken by us all.

A small gripe that I have is Hyatt’s buffet does not include tea/coffee which is a shame as this are immaterial costs if they provide just the ordinary tea or coffee. I just like finishing off a complete meal with a cuppa. The staff are pretty friendly and efficient with plates cleared very quickly. We will return again next year as usual.

    V
  • We dined here on last Saturday night and surprisingly there were a few empty tables. The food was overall pretty average I must say. Most people went for the seafood which was fresh and fantastic! The smoked salmon was excellent and the salad was fresh and crisp. There wasn't a lot of hot food to choose from. The crumbed chicken was ok but the warm octopus salad wasn't very nice, the octopus was chewy.

The desserts were impressive because they were having the dessert special with more than 20 choices. We've tried most of the desserts by sharing and most of them were ok. The chocolate of triple brulee wasn't real choc, probably cocoa, although it looked insanely evil. However, the triple choc torte was real choc and it tasted very good. Two of the desserts were a bit dry, we weren't sure if they were meant to have cream/syrup with it.

The wait-staff were polite and gave good service overall. However, I was a bit annoyed that my partner got all their attention and I was largely ignored simply because they thought he was the one flashing the plastic. In fact, I was taking my partner out on this occasion.

My partner and I frequently rate the restroom of restaurants when we go out. And this one, both the men's and ladies' were 2.5 out of 5. It wasn't particularly clean seeing that it is a 4-5 stars hotel.

  • Most of the food at Cafe Hyatt is great except for the hot food, I felt that there was not enough selection of hot food and it didn't taste 5 stars as being Hyatt, a 5 star hotel. But the service was excellent; the waiters are prompt and friendly.

    V
  • I took my mum to lunch here yesterday. Been there several times before but on this occasion, it was overall quite disappointing. My spirit and mixer arrived sans spirit and by the time a staff member came within cooee, I had drunk half of it, so didn't bother following it up. Spirit didn't appear in the bill. Staff avoidance seemed to be the theme of the afternoon as it was very hard to flag anyone down.

We both found the potato and leek soup to be very thin and oily with the predominant flavours being pepper and chicken stock (not fresh stock either). The potato and leek flavours seemed to be entirely absent. The seafood, cold meats and salads were pretty much to the usual standard but not exceptional. Some of the seafood was certainly not well prepared. The hot buffet sounded lovely with items such as duck confit, vegetable lasagne and roast turkey. Unfortunately, they did not deliver. In particular the duck confit was most disappointing as it was more of a casserole than a confit with all its flavour being lost in the fluid, and the skin flabby instead of crisp. This was indicative of most of the dishes. The lasagne and barramundi looked most unappetising for different reasons. The rest could be grouped as overly salty or oily, or sodden and flavourless.

The dessert buffet has become a centrepiece of the room with lots of delectables. The cheese board while nice was not anything flash. Even the coffee was below par this time.

As I used an Entertainment Card, the price worked out at under $30pp so for the cost we got good value. However if I had to pay full cost or went for dinner or a weekend (or horror of horrors, a public holiday), I think I would have felt decidedly ripped off! Won't be back until I get a new discount.

  • A party of 12 enjoyed the Sunday lunch jazz buffet which included beverages. This was excellent value for money. The food variety was overall outstanding, however the hot food could have been a little better. Plenty of seafoods and salads and the desserts were to die for! The ambience was lovely ~ much better than any other buffet I have been to in the larger hotels of Perth. The drinks were free flowing and service very attentive. Overall highly recommended!
