Welcome to Cicerello's

A huge glorified fish and chip shop is how we would describe this place. With a huge amount of options on the menu as far as seafood and salads go, you'll be able to get a decent side of chips and even stay for dessert. Sit outside on the harbour strip in Fremantle and enjoy the sunshine with friends or watch the day go by with a newspaper or magazine.

Food:

There were 12 of us (family), ages ranged from youngest of 7 to oldest of 77. Meals of spicy fish & chips, ordinary fish & chips, seafood chowder, Fremantle sardines, seafood platter for one, garlic prawns & chips, salads and wedges were ordered. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. Food was fairly quick to arrive considering they were busy and it was a Monday night. No complaints from anyone. Good family food but also good food for those who don't mind not having a 5 star dinner setting.

Service:

You have to queue to pay, which was done. Our disc was buzzing fairly soon after. Bit slow in clearing up after, especially if you just want to relax and finish your wine/beer/soft drink.

Ambience:

Its noisy, family friendly and overlooks the fishing boat harbour. Fine by us!

Overall:
A great place to go for a good feed of seafood, or just plain old fish & chips.

My lover and I went to Freo for a leisurely day out one Friday. We decided we would like to eat on the Harbour and enjoy some fresh seafood. We tossed up between Joe's Fish Shack and Cicerellos. I had been to Joe's before, but neither of us had been to Cicerellos so we decided to eat there. The lineup was long, but moved fairly quickly. The service was terrible, we were rushed to a register only to be ignored and then rudely asked to order. We decided on the battered barramundi fillets, 6 fried scallops and 2 beers. We then went outside. It took about 15-20 minutes for our buzzer to go off. My lover went in and was gone for a while. When he returned I was shocked to discover that our order came without chips!! I paid close to 50 dollars for 2 pieces of fish, 6 scallops and a couple of beers!! The fish was average but edible. The scallops were actually quite nice, juicy and succulent. But the service, rip off price and warm beer let this place down big time. I was very disappointed considering Cicerellos advertises WA's BEST FISH AND CHIPS in neon lights outside the establishment. Give me Joe's any day!

Cicerello's is famous not only in Perth but in other countries as well. I've been here 10 years ago and I must say quite a lot has changed.

Famous for its fish and chips (AUD10.50), they do have quite a variety on their menu including grilled seafood, burgers, salads and the newly added kiosk which has quite a lovely display of cakes and coffee.

I find that the standard of food changes every time I'm there. Sometimes the fish is cold, or too oily, and the servings aren't fixed. Sometimes it comes with shoe string chips and sometimes large chips. Overall it's edible but most of the time it's a tad too oily.

They do serve different kinds of fish depending on your likings, but I do like their salt and pepper squid. Their chilli mussels/crabs are a favorite too..

It can get quite packed on weekends, but it's not too hard to find a table. There's a whole row of aquarium filled with marine life to look at while you queue to order. Not a bad place to catch up with friends and family and get a bit of the Fremantle Doctor blowing while you dig in!

Fish and chips on the wharf in Freo is something of a tradition and I was amazed at how far the reputation of Cicerello's had actually spread. I had people in a rural NSW town tell me about the place when I was over there earlier this year.

Between Cicerello's and Fisherman's Kitchen (behind Maccas) they have fish and chips down pat. What Cicerello's has over the other place though is decor and ambience. Its a little bit more expensive but the fish is the freshest I have ever had when going out for fish and chips and it changes according to what fish has been brought in that morning so it isn't just your usual hake. Whenever I have visitors, I always take them here because the aquariums and the arrangement of the seating outside just makes this an all round great experience.

The only downside is the popularity of this place means huge queues on weekends and even some very bold seagulls if you sit outside. Even with the crowd though, it generally means that your food is cooked fresh because there just isn't enough time for food to be sitting idle in the bain marie.

The size of the servings don't skimp on the fish or the chips either we always order one serve between two people and are struggling to finish it even then.

I'm pretty sure lots of people already familiar that fish & chips is a great easy & quick food, so I won't bore you to death on the review of the food itself.

As you might expect, for the price you're paying in this restaurant, the quality of the good 'ol fish & chips (around $10) is kinda expected (average and above), BUT when you order prepared foods, there when you'll find the difference (more expensive, obviously). Personally, I like the prawn spaghetti the best (sauce really suits my taste) and the prawn has been consistently fresh.

Also, as any other fish & chips shops, I found (personally) the chips portion is always a bit too much, so if I go with my friends, I always order a seafood basket with some extra fish/prawns to share (if you don't mind with sharing), and you get more varieties too.

The cafe in the restaurant is also very handy. It provides quite an extensive choices of cakes. You don't need to go another place to have a cup of coffee. This is handy when you're catching up with friends.

The ambience? I personally like the huge and long aquarium with so many coral fish in it, it is very beautiful. The only downside is, this restaurant can be too crowded and uncivilised during weekends :D.

In summary, I certainly highly recommend this place. It is very family friendly, though probably not the best place to catch up with your friends during busy time (can be a bit too crowded :), from MY personal point of view anyway)

We have been to Cicerello's a few times when we are in Fremantle. The food is excellent; try the seafood tray or fish and chips, and scallops or prawns are great as a side. The fish basket is great for the kids, and the buzzers that let you know when your food is ready is sure to keep you entertained. The only drawback is the awful smell of cigarette smoke that wafts around the tables. Overall, I thoroughly recommend going to Cicerello's Fremantle.

Cicerello's is the best seafood/fish & chips casual restaurant in Perth. You can come with friends and family and they will all enjoy the food and atmosphere. The choices & prices on the menu are great, worth the money. The fish really nice. I absolutely love the deluxe seafood chowder.

Well done Cicerello's.

An institution in Fremantle, I really only come back here because I love the tropical fish tanks - which contain eels, sharks, coral fish and numerous other creatures.

The fish and chips we ordered had been sitting in a bain marie for a while, and to be honest I was kind of disappointed because it looked old. Next time I might order a dish that needs to be prepared rather than the traditional fish and chips, which I can get anywhere.
