Overall:
We dropped in here last night for dinner and were pleasantly surprised with everything.
It was pretty quiet - three other tables - and we were allowed to choose where to sit. The chairs are some of the comfiest restaurant chairs I've ever sat in! The tables are far enough apart to give the place a nice open relaxed feeling.
For entree we ordered oyster shots to start. They came with vodka, tomato juice and lime - I'm not an oyster fan usually but these gave a zing and were the perfect start to the meal. We then ordered beef and vegetable dumplings lightly fried and our friends ordered the seafood pancake. The food was very fresh when it came out and it was obvious that high quality produce had been used.
For mains we ordered the spicy pork with rice and a set and the lightly salted whole mackerel. I was worried that the mackerel was going to be fiddly with all the bones, but it really wasn't at all. The pork came out sizzling and the miso soup was the best I've ever tasted. I usually find it too salty but this soup was more delicate. Our friends decided to order the beef and vegetable hotpot that cooks in the middle of the table. It takes five minutes to cook and then you can turn the heat to low so it stays warm. The beef was sliced very thinly and wasn't fatty at all.
We just had icecream for dessert, which was nice, but nothing compared to the entree and main.
I'm not usually a big fan of restaurants that serve asian food because it is often hard to get really good quality. This place proved me wrong though - the food was at its freshest.
The service was also exceptional and friendly too. The bill came to $171 (incl. corkage for three bottles) for four people, which I thought was reasonable. We will definitely be going back when we are in the area.
