This place has been around forever (or since the early 1920s to be more accurate). I rate the ambience highly as it's one of those places that remain pretty much as it were since it opened. Some say rustic, some say run-down. Either way it's got character for sure.
Service is TOPS. Very friendly, with a prominently elderly cliental (probably people who have been patrons for decades) and people looking for good food cheap.
Have a burger with the works. Seriously, it comes with proper bacon, egg, a stack of salad and a proper homemade beef patty. If you look closely (and I did) you'll even spot the herbs mixed through the beef. This is good value, especially at $7 takeaway ($9 is you eat in). If not, enjoy a mug of fresh-brewed coffee/tea with a jam doughnut or any of their other cakes, tarts or pies.
This is the kind of place people walk past all the time without giving much notice. But those in the know, know.
Enjoy.
