Welcome to Divido

Divido

Jason Jujnovich is Co-owner and Executive Chef of Divido.

Originally from Perth, Jason moved to London working for chefs Marcus Wearing, Gordon Ramsay and Steven Terry. They taught him the necessity for discipline and basics, building the solid foundations that he uses everyday which are critical to good food.

Jason’s love for Italian food stemmed from his time at the famed River Café. Their simplistic food, quality of produce and variety of difference has stayed with Jason and appears in his cooking.

Jason headed back to Australia working in renowned Melbourne restaurant Café Cucina and lastly as Head Chef of Italian restaurant Il Bacaro, where he collected several awards, including Melbourne Dine Out for Best Italian and The Age newspapers Good Food Guide 'Chef's Hat'.

The experience from Melbourne fuelled his desire to open his own style restaurant back in his home town. "I wanted to create a modern establishment that offers the diner a casual Italian eating and drinking experience in Perth. The wine list reflects our dedication to enjoying food and wine in its simplest form – pure satisfaction!"

Simply delicious and decadent.
I started off with the beetroot, goats cheese and lentil salad. The beetroot tart, the lentils retained bite while absorbing dressing and the goats cheese smothered on the crostini added a creamy finish, a great combination.
For mains I went for the Mushroom Rotollo (like a pasta swiss roll) with crispy sage. The mushrooms where bursting with flavour and the pasta was soft but then also had some crunch from being in the wood fired oven - heavenly.
The boy had the octopus for entree and then the Swordfish. He enjoyed the octopus and said the swordfish was cooked to perfection and was very happy with his choice. We managed to share The River Cafe Chocolate Nemesis for dessert, simply sinful bliss.

Every person who came to our table knew their stuff. I asked Slav various questions and he answered everything without hesitation. Water was re-filled constantly, wine topped up and plates cleared efficiently. Superb.

Ambience:

Chilled out, great copper plate on the wall, chairs comfy. Love how they have done the lighting.

Overall:
There isn't too much to choose when it comes to vegetarian options so won't rush back, but will be making huge recommendations to anyone who will listen that this place is fantastic and deserves a visit. Book now you will not regret.

It's our girls' night out, so I was put in charged of organising dinner at a nice restaurant before hitting off to the cinema for Sex and The City.. We had scallops for entree, mains were woodfired pork belly and duck.. and caramalised tart for dessert. Food was great.. good combo of gravy and lentil with the pork belly. The downside was that I found a little stone in the food .. the size of the lentil, so it was hard to spot!

Service:

Service was wonderful.. waitresses were professional and attentive, especially when I reported the stone incident. Food was served very quickly on warm plates but nothing came faster than the bill... trust me, I'm the accountant, and it was super quick!

Ambience:

We thought the place was closed when we first arrived: there was no deco outside to indicate that Divido was a restaurant.. all looked very low key, not a head turner.. but whoa.. the inside was such a contrast.. it was not too tarted up.. but warm and cosy

Overall:
Overall very good, though I would have appreciated if the restaurant made an effort to make up for the stone in my food.. like a free dessert or coffee.. considering I was very polite about it..

Absolutely superb! At first I thought the meal sizes would send me home hungry but to my surprise they satisfied my hunger easily and didn't leave me feeling bloated or heavy. The meals my partner and I had that evening were nothing short of perfect...from the Entree to the desert...we found the food creative, visually inviting and absolutely delicious. Compliments to the Head Chef and his team of professionals for the best meal we have had!

Service:

Perfect...Is the best way to describe the service. All waitpersons we encountered were helpful, friendly and extremely knowledgeable on the menu items. Asking us if we would like a break before receiving our mains was a nice touch and added to the eating experience at Dividos

Cosy yet modern with a perfect interior decor. We absolutely loved the feel of the place. Perfect for a dinner date with that someone special. Comfortable in all aspects with a nice buzz amongst the customers creating that perfect modern Italian feel.

Overall:
The best restaurant we have eaten at. We have been to many interstate and overseas however Dividos is the first one that we cannot flaw. A good mentor of mine once told me of a place he lovingly referred to as his second date restaurant. Now not to give the Great Manâ's secret away I think I can attest with some confidence I have found a contender to his tried and true recommendation - Divido.

Divido doesn't look like much from the hum of Scarborough Beach Road but when you open the door it has a welcoming air of warmth and friendship that you associate locations other than Perth.

The staff are attentive without being overbearing and will calmly engage you in witty banter while providing useful recommendations from a good wine list that doesn't just limit itself to the same old local but looks to interstate and overseas as well.

The Italian based menu is succinct and it would hard for anyone to find something that didn't appeal.

I had a wonderful calamari, followed by a good sized t-bone which was engaged to some pumpkin and spinach with a liberal addition of pepper that made me just made me happy to be alive. I was also fortunate to try some of the quail which was equally as joyous.

When it came to the desert menu, the lime tart with its caramelized coat and zesty heart spirited along by a well made long macchiato made me wish all my eating experiences were like this. Alright, I was also very fortunate in the company I was keeping as well, but everything about this place just makes you want to go back again and again!

Finally got to use my EWA prize voucher for Divido's tonight - yay!! Grabbed an early booking (6pm) and took my mum as a treat. It has been a bit of a slog to get here through circumstances that had nothing to do with the restaurant. Although after three attempts at making a booking, I found the attitude on the end of the phone implying that at 6pm on a Wednesday it might be a bit of a hard ask to secure a table a bit ridiculous considering we walked into an empty restaurant with no other patrons for another half hour.

Anyway we ordered four antipasti items and a glass of Spanish dry white was recommended by the maitre'd, which turned out to be a perfect choice. Despite being the first meals of the kitchen that night, the antipasti arrived relatively quickly. By this stage the empty room was beginning to fill up and more staff were arriving, creating quite a hum in this small eatery. The braised cabbage rolls stuffed with veal and lamb were excellent, as too were the calamari and the beef carpaccio. The spiced chick peas were very tasty but quite bland if you were seeking a bit of spice. The gravy from the cabbage rolls improved the flavour of the chick peas greatly.

Normally, we would try to order different main courses so as to try as much as possible but on this occasion, neither of us could go past the duck. The duck was oh so tender with a light and crispy skin. The skin on my duck was not that well plucked but as the (plucked) duck was so stunning, I ended up turning it over so as not to see the lack of preparation and was then able to devour it all. The cherry vinegar dressing on the raddicio was divine and the side serve of the tomato Calabrese salad (which was sliced tomato with basil and fromage frais in an oil and vinegar dressing) rounded off the dish nicely. While the mashed potato was very smooth and creamy, I am a bit over mash with everything.

Deciding we were too full for any desserts or coffees, we settled the bill which came to $109 less the voucher and were back in the car by 7:15pm. The service was near faultless and the food lovely. It was quite a humming place when we left. Would I go back? Probably not as there are excellent restaurants of a similar calibre a lot closer to me than a forty-five minute drive without traffic. But if I (or they) moved closer, maybe.

Great Food! The entrees (in the main) were good, the pizzas were excellent. Service was ok, but the waitresses kept changing; it doesn't seem that each waitperson has allocated tables. Not cheap but pleasant ambience and surroundings. We will return. The degustation tasting dinners look great; will try them next time. Try it.

We had an early evening meal of pizza on a Thursday night, as I had heard so much about their great pizzas. The service was fine, nothing wrong with it, nor was it outstanding.

I had the seafood pizza, the crust was very light, and the toppings were as described... I especially liked the use of "real" king prawns rather than the imported ones that you now often get at even the "nice" restaurants. But I did think that there was a general lack of "pizza bits" and the lack of cheese made it a little bit dry and tasteless. Hubby had a pizza with artichokes (can't remember the rest of the ingredients), and his pizza didn't appear to have any melted cheese, but I think it did have a small amount (and I mean small) of goats cheese.

If you like the "minimalist" style pizza, you will enjoy Divido, but I don't know that I'll be rushing back there for pizza.

We had the privilege of eating at Divido after winning an Eating WA voucher and the experience was no less than fantastic. Firstly, our waitress was very nice, professional and attentive. They had a lot of staff on so there was always someone watching every table and catering to everyone's needs. As soon as our glasses were half empty, the waitress came with a water jug to fill them. Very impressive.

The antipastos were delicious - our favourite was the Divido calamari, but we also loved the eggplant & mint frittelle, braised cabbage rolls and mixed olives.

Their pizzas are definitely worth a try - they have the thinnest crust I've ever tasted and yet are very filling. They have innovative toppings too, lots that sounded appetising. My 'Potato and Pancetta' pizza was slightly bland at first bite, however grew on me and by the end I was savouring it. The thin potato pieces had been soaked in butter and cream so it was quite rich.

Our table also ordered the Seafood pizza which was enjoyed, the kids pizza and the Beef Sirloin. The Beef Sirloin was a small serving (nouvelle cuisine - large plate with small portion) however was absolutely succulent. We sent it back to be cooked slightly more as the person who ordered it was fussy about how she liked her meat - when it was sent back 5 minutes later they had redone the plate with new red onion salad, pumpkin etc even though this had already mostly been eaten.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice as there is relaxing music played in the background and out table commented that they enjoyed being in the serene environment where one could hear themselves talk.

A few other comments - the food came out perfectly timed, everyone served at exactly the same time (which is not the case at many places) and there was a perfect amount of time between courses.

The 4 antipastos, 4 meals, tap water all around & 2 beers cost us $120 which was very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

I'll mention the food we had and rave about the service too, but I want to set things straight first. This was by far the best dining out experience we have ever had for the money we paid.

I chose Divido because I still had an EatingWA voucher to use there. We had booked a table for four for 7.30, but we actually arrived about 7pm and it certainly wasn't a problem. The waitress showed us where we should have been seated, but decided to seat us at an identical table across the room because the sun could sometimes hit the other table and it may be uncomfortable. The table we were seated at was huge, which was absolutely fantastic. Everyone had plenty of room and when antipasti was served into the middle of the table, none of it was encroaching on personal space.

Antipasti: We shared Beef Carpaccio, Eggplant and Mint Frittele, Calamari, Quail and Wood Roasted Sardines. All of these dishes were outstanding. The flavours melded together well and had obviously been chosen carefully. No one could decide on a favourite, but we all seemed to have a fair bit to say about the Beef Carpaccio. The antipasti was accompanied by beer for my father and my husband and a bottle of 2005 Voyager Estate Sauvignon Blanc for my mother and I.

Mains: My husband and mother shared a Zucchini and Pork Sausage Pizza which they both thought was delicious. In particular, the base was light and crispy. My father had the Beef Sirloin, which came with warm potato, pancetta, peppers, zucchini and a herb bread sauce. This tasted sensational. It was cooked to perfection and the meat was very tender. I liked the herb bread sauce. I had the Wood Roasted Pork Belly rubbed with fennel seed and garlic, with grilled peaches, water cress and pistachio aioli. I have never had pork like it before. The crispy, crackly skin was so flavoursome and not over-salted and the meat was very tender. The flavours were a combination I'd never thought of and they worked really well. The pistachio aioli was incredible. We shared a serve of Wood Roasted Asparagus, which came with some delicious parmesan (or it could have been provolone) on top. My father ordered a bottle of red, a sangiovese blend I think, which was very nice. It had quite a rich nose, but went down well.

Dessert: We managed to make a bit of room for dessert, which I don't think anyone regretted. My husband had the Maple and Marscapone Cheese Cake. I can't think for any word to describe it other than stunning. The maple syrup is something I've never seen with cheese cake, but it certainly worked. It was delicious. My Mum and I shared the Caramelised Lemon Tart with double cream. Instead of bringing just two sets of cutlery, the waitress brought the tart out already divided up, on two plates and each with a little portion of double cream. It had a crispy Creme Brulee style top and the lemon filling was rich and perfectly compounded by the double cream. My father isn't a big sweets person, so he made do with a long black. My husband had a cognac and Mum and I each had a coffee.

I'll try and compact the rest of what I have to say for anyone who is still reading this.

The service was outstanding. Our water glasses were never empty. At the beginning of the evening when the waitress asked if we were ready to order anything, my father said that we would like to sit and chat for awhile first. She said that was absolutely fine and that she was there when we were ready to order. Once we did order, the food arrived fairly promptly and there was a good amount of time in between each course. We didn't feel rushed at all and had a very relaxing evening.

The food is simply amazing. Very fresh ingredients are used and the serves are just the right size for you to be able to sample something for entree, main and dessert without feeling like you'll burst afterward.

Ambience: The table size was the best thing. It is a small restaurant which is also a plus and they don't squeeze customers and tables in. The lighting is not too dark and not too bright and the music not too intrusive. Even during the loudest, busiest time we were there, I could still here the conversation clearly at our table.

All up the meal came to $216, which includes the use of my EatingWA voucher. It may sound like a lot for four people, but it was the best value for money I've ever had in a restaurant with food of that quality.

My partner and I decided to go checkout Divido on a cloudy Sunday afternoon for lunch.

It’s a smallish place positioned on the funky end of Mount Hawthorn, the décor is really warm and inviting – we were instantly greeted with a friendly smile and seated.

The menu is quite intriguing, for entrée with had Beef Carpaccio ($9), Quail ($9), Spiced Chickpeas ($9) and Wood Roasted Sardines ($9) – perfect choice as all were perfectly presented along with having intense flavour.

For mains I had the Wood roasted Lamb Rump with green beans, potato & hot fetta ($28) dressing, this was standout meal, the lamb was so tender and yummy. My partner had the Beef Sirloin with warm potato and pancetta salad with horseradish cream ($29), the meat had great smokey flavour.

For desert we shared the Strawberry Compote with meringue and cream ($9) – we couldn’t have chosen a better desert, looked and tasted sensational.

Next time I would like to try some of their wood pizza’s as we saw a few come out to a couple of the other tables and it looked delicious.

Great to enjoy exceptional service, and nice length of time between courses. We had a perfect Sunday lunch, well done Divido!

My partner and I dined here on a Friday night because I received a voucher from Eating WA. It wasn't crowded at all and I have to give this restaurant kudos for their warm atmosphere and large, comfortable tables.

After reviewing their outstanding wine list, we ordered our drinks (I was thrilled to be able to order a Lillet, as few places I've been to in Perth serve it). Our service was prompt and attentive. We began with a couple of entrees, of which Divido has a nice, inventive selection. This turned out to be our favorite course of the meal. We tried the eggplant dumplings with mint and a sausage and olive plate. Both were delicious, particularly the sausage.

I have to say overall, I found the food here to be a bit salty. We wished we'd tried the pizzas instead of the main dishes we selected. I had the duck and while the meat was quite tender and delicious, I did not expect for it to come out with the skin as crispy and salty as it did (and I could have done without the cabbage on the plate). It's probably a matter of taste as I noticed one of the other reviewers gave the duck high marks. My partner had the fish special, tuna meatballs. I tried these as well and they were quite good, though the portion could have been a bit more generous (it was meant to be served with calamari, but I saw only a couple of tiny little rings on the plate).

We finished off the meal with dessert. I was really happy to see baked pumpkin cheesecake on the list as pumpkin is one of my favorite ingredients and largely under-represented on Perth menus. My partner had the bittersweet chocolate tart. I found this to be a bit too bitter, though the dollops of rich cream served with the desserts helped out a bit. The pastry on the tart was nothing special. My pumpkin cheesecake was delicious, however, did not justify its $11 price tag.

Overall, I'd recommend Divido for their entrees and pizzas (though we didn't try them, it was obvious this is their specialty). The other main dishes are a tad overpriced and ambitious.

I love this place. The food incredibly tasty while not being fussy. Pizzas are delicately topped and cooked to crispy perfection. They are a good starter to share. The roasted duck is a favourite of mine. And the fish specials are always a fresh choice. Wood-fired goodness all around!

Obviously, I've eaten at Dividos several times. I've never been disappointed. Except, maybe for the music. It's usually not very soothing and often it is flat-out annoying and intrusive to my tasty meal. Perhaps, it is more fitting during lunch or weekend breakfast (which by the way is also amazing). These meals tend to be a little more playful for me.

Dividos has a great wine list. We all know Australian wines are great but come on, there are heaps of other great drops produced all over the world. Perth, let's expand our horizons. Cocktails at Dividos are also unique and fantastic. Cheers to the Jason Duo and staff!

This is a little touch of Europe (Spanish / Italian) in Mount Hawthorn.

You have to love a place that embraces old world wines on the list instead of giving into the plights of the masses and loading up with the usual.

Tempranillo, Chianti Classico and Barolo to list but a few of the varieties on Jason Hamptons short yet damn tasty list. Cava to start if you like or make a choice from the premium beers on offer.

Entrees like beef carpaccio with tuna cream get the juices flowing for your main.

Last time i was there my partner and i shared the fish of the day and the braised rabbit. both came with a selection of roasted veg and we had a nice rocket and parmesan salad on the side.

For dessert we enjoyed the chocolate tasting plate but by this time i was so high on the rainbow of tastes i was hallucinating....

Dessert wine like Moscato D'asti or a filthy little fortified monastrel from Spain will make you want to set up camp for the next day.

I cannot recommend this place enough.

The service was impeccable with advice on food, wines or a matching. Smart, nice smiling staff, a chef that comes out to greet the customers and very well priced on all levels.
Small room makes for an intimate experience.

Get in before the boat fills.
