Welcome to Don Don Tei Japanese Restaurant

I know several people at work get Japanese from here and have said how great it was. I now think that these people just don't have much experience with cheap Japanese. Don Don Tei used to be at the cinemas I believe but have moved into this site which is a converted fish and chip shop. Several tables and chairs within the basic cafe layout allow several diners to eat their meals.

Being located within the suburban streets in a small precinct containing a deli and Laundromat amongst other businesses, they have a ready audience in the dense housing area and school zone. As such, this cafe has tried to capitalise on this by trying to be several things to many people. Along with the Japanese menu, there are several Chinese meals along with fish and chips and the like. I had the teriyaki fish bento box for $9.80, which consisted of the fish and rice with Japanese coleslaw, seaweed salad, dipping sauce and two huge pieces of grated vegetable tempura. The tempura was very slightly oily but tasty, but the fish was not as nice as Taka's, although far superior to Ginsushi's. It was quite nice nonetheless. Having never tried Agedashi Tofu, I also bought a serve for $4. Didn't care for it but whether that is them or I just don't like it, I don't know.

I think when I partake in work's Japanese lunch orders, I will be tagging on to the Mr Teriyaki group rather than Don Don Tei. However if I was a local resident, I would possibly buy from them again for convenience purposes. I do think there are several other superior Japanese takeaways, although the Midland market is quite limited and so you may have to drive some distance if you want better value and taste, especially when Mr Teriyaki's is closed (like it was today).
