The hubby and I went to Northbridge for a Thursday lunch (having no idea of the area as it was our first visit) and liked the look of the Dragon and I wanted to try Yum Cha and we were not disappointed. It was very busy with a number of large parties (only just got in immediately) and it was so nice to have real table cloths. The staff were attentive and came around at regular intervals to replenish your choice of food and the teapot without being intrusive. The squid was the best I have tasted very tender and crisp with a lovely salty peppery taste without being overpowering. Hubby enjoyed the custard tarts (not too sweet) plus we both enjoyed the scallop, chicken and prawn dumplings. In all we had 9 courses plus tea and it was a very enjoyable and relaxing meal and at $20 each was value for money which satisfied both our appetites and our pockets.

Went to Dragon Seafood to sample their steamboat buffet that was started on the 4th of March.

Prices are pretty fair I would say. They are as follows

Adults - $32
Students - $29
Kids (6-12) - $16
Kids (2-5) - $6

Menu includes your standard fare of beef, lamb, pork or chicken (thinly sliced and ideal for the steamboat). On the seafood aspect, there were scallops, crabs, prawns, fish and mussels.

Mixture of beef balls, pork balls, mushroom balls and of course fishballs. There are also various forms of yong tau foo (fish paste stuffed into bean curd), won tons, golden mushrooms and shitake mushrooms.

Rice and noodles are available as well. Although you do need to order the rice from a wait staff.

For the young ones, french fries and other bite sized foods are available.

Steamboat pot is divided into 2 halves so that you can have a choice of 7 different soups which are
- satay, curry, preserved egg, chicken, herbal chicken, coriander and tom yum. Personally, we went for the chicken soup as the tom yum and satay were basically water with paste added.

Desserts included cake, sago pudding, grass jelly, soya beancurd, read bean paste and fruits.

Free flow of drinks that included coke, diet coke and emu draft.

Restaurant was fairly packed and staff were whizzing around but it was not too hard to get their attention. For those with prams like myself, make it known when making a reservation so that you get a table on the side with space to place the pram.

They have 2 types of high chairs available. The plastic ones with trays which take up more space but have a restraining belt or the wooden chair with no restraining device. Make sure you pick the right chair as the staff tend to supply the wooden one first as it is smaller.

Keynote - Waste is charged at 50% per head. I believe this is fair and they have a bit of leeway between wastage and "I cannot eat the last 2 beefballs or I will explode!"

The partner and I and another couple met at the dragon on Sunday for Yum Cha after being inspired by the recent EWA competition. We arrived at 11.30 thinking that the weather might keep a few punters at home but it takes more than horizontal rain and gale force wind to deter the committed Yum Cha crowd so it was an orderly half hour wait til our number came up. When arriving you let the ‘traffic controller’ know how many people are on your table and they give you a number; keep an ear out for the call because you only get one chance! They do circulate the queue on the footpath though so you won’t miss out if you are outside.

Shown through to our table with tea delivered quickly we had to do some self service for the soy and chilli sauces, no problems as we were next to a servery with said items. The restaurant was packed without much room between tables but not to the point of discomfort. Noise levels aren’t too bad considering the sizable room and crowd, there are real tablecloths with carpets and soft furnishings to keep the buzz down to a dull roar.

The waiters circulate with trolleys or trays and the variety of dishes is pretty good though we didn’t see any chicken feet and the fried squid only came around once. Quality was also good, we were impressed with the seafood rolls, BBQ pork, pork buns/wontons and fresh Fremantle sardines. The crumbed prawns and squid was ok, a little tough and the fried chicken was disappointing as it was extremely oily. We also tried the egg/custard tarts and the custard buns; both were good and gave a tasty and sweet finish to the meal after the savoury and occasionally spicy first selections.

It’s fast and frenetic dining, we were finished, paid and out the door in 35min for the not so dollar denting sum of $20 each which was fun and great value, no-one in the party left hungry and all of us will be happy to go back to the Dragon again soon.

Went to Dragon Seafood for dim sum on a Saturday arvo, that was the first me and my mate tried it and it is absolutely good.

The quality of the food is good, every dishes that we tried didn't let us down, service was very good, at least the waitress give us big smile every time they come around, the place has minimum decoration, though the place is small but everything is good, so nothing to complain about.

I would rate this place as my current fav yum cha, because very good quality of food, very good service and good smile, good ambience as well, prices are average compared to others, so how can't i be satisfied with all this!!

Anyway, very yummy prawn dumpling, good pork dumpling with a reasonable size plus no smelly pork taste, fried squid is tasty too, egg tart was good though bit small.

I've been to Dragon Seafood twice now for dim sum and was happy with the food both times. The deep fried squid was on par with the late lamented Hoi's, and the prawn dumplings had a bit of a kick to them which was nice. The atmosphere is pleasant, and even when it was very crowded there were some chairs outside to wait on and an orderly waiting list. The only negative thing I can think of to say is that I didn't see any mango pudding or sponge cake, which are favourites of my daughters. But I may have just missed them, and anyway the egg tarts made up for them as far as I'm concerned. Good stuff.

We went to dragon seafood for a midweek dim sum pig out. I excitedly took my friend along as it was her first experience. This restaurant I think is nice. It’s clean and has material table clothes. The service is pretty good but they only give a small saucer of soy sauce and I always have to ask for more.

I have to say that I was a little sad that for my friends first dim sum experience the food was below par. A few examples - Our bbq pork buns (clouds) were so floury they practically glued our mouth together; the oyster sauce poured over our plate of greens (choysum) was so watery it had hardly any taste & the steamed prawn dumplings were pretty much all rice paper. I was not overly impressed with any of the dishes and have had better

I have been there a couple of times now and have left a little disappointed with the food on all occasions. Also the fact it’s not very good value for money considering it cost us $19 each and we didn’t even eat very much (expensive dim sum).

Quite enjoy the Dim Sum/Yum Cha there but when the place really shines is during the cooler months when they have their all you can eat steam boat buffet in the evenings.

This consists of a large buffet of premium raw ingredients all prepped and well presented which you go up and put on a plate, take back to your table and cook in you 'steamboat' in the middle of the table. this is a large divided metal bowl sitting on top of a gas burner with a different stock bubbling away on each side. Ingredients include fresh raw wantons, noodles, sauces, fish, marbled beef, oysters, mussels, fish/meatballs, squid, chicken, raw eggs and plenty of vegetables.

Softdrinks, light beer and western and oriental desserts are included in the price.

One thing to note is the warning that any wastage will attract a 50% extra charge. They are serious about this and in my opinion rightly so. The food is of exceptional quality and value.

Went here for Yum Cha recently and the food was very good, especially the seafood although the squid was a bit chewy. The prawn dumplings were excellent. Great value.
