Welcome to Firehouse Bar & Restaurant (The)

Firehouse Bar & Restaurant (The)

Belmont's newest bar and restaurant, “The Firehouse” is a cool place to be on a warm West Australian night.

Enjoy a menu of tasty in-season favourites, including prawns, barramundi and melt-in-your-mouth kangaroo steaks with a crispy fresh salad, all sourced from the best local produce and prepared under the supervision of executive chef Damien Rogan.

The best feature of The Firehouse is its great outdoor courtyard space, warm enough for a weekend afternoon in the winter with mates, or a day by the pool with the kids in the summer.

The décor is warm – the colours are natural brick reds, terracotta browns, and of course, burnt orange.

The Firehouse Bar & Restaurant, part of the Country Comfort Inter City Perth complex, gets its name from the site's previous occupant - the West Australian Fire Service training centre.

A range of beers are on tap at the bar and the wine list is unashamedly biased towards the Western Australian regions of Margaret River and Swan Valley. The Firehouse is open for dinner every night and will cater for special functions by request.

Opening Times Breakfast & dinner 7 days - Lunch Wednesday to Friday

Overall:
A few Tuesdays ago I took my mate Glassy and his lovely Fiancee’ Alicia with Bree and I to do a review of the Firehouse restaurant in Belmont. We weren’t sure what to expect, and upon arriving there, we realized that the Firehouse is the restaurant at the Country Comfort Intercity Motel. Looking at the occupied tables, we noted that it seemed to us that the Firehouse is popular with the many Miner’s WA is attracting during this boom time, as at the majority of tables were men!

We were promptly shown to our table by the welcoming wait staff and asked if we would like any drinks to start with. The girls decided on a white wine, while Darren and I went for a bottle of the Cockfighters Ghost reserve shiraz. Both wines were reasonably priced and went down well with our meals.

To start, Glassy, Alicia and Myself all had the Sesame crumbed prawns and calamari ($15) served with salad and was delicious. Bree had the tasting plate ($14) which consisted of Kangaroo (very tender), Chorizo Sausage, crumbed mushrooms and chicken meatballs. We all helped Bree out with the tasting plate as there was ample there for it to be shared around. We also started with a serve of garlic bread which was very tasty aswell!

Moving to the mains, I decided on the stir fry which was a great size but could have done with a little more bite. The girls went for the fish of the day, which upon presentation looked great, but they said is was a little dry. Glassy had the prime Harvey Beef sirloin, was a great size and he said was cooked really well. It was served with chunky chips and vegetables and he was well and truly satisfied once he had finished.

After mains our great waiter Jimmy offered us the dessert menu, and of course we had to have a look! After a bit of discussion I couldn’t resist the ice-cream sandwich and Darren went for his favourite Apple Pie. Bree and Alicia both decided on a Affogatto – Bree’s dessert of the moment! The desserts were fantastic! The ice-cream sandwich was covered in caramel and chocolate sauce and filled with creamy vanilla ice-cream.

At the end of the night we were all well and truly full to the brim! The firehouse is a great place to catch up with mates over a relaxed dinner with excellent service.

Thanks to Jimmy and the team for their great hospitality!

Happy eating!

I have been meaning to try this restaurant since MJAIL visited here last year and finally, tonight, I did. This is a restaurant that serves the motel guests, as both dine-in and room service, as well as attracting locals that are "in the know". They are in the process of getting better signage as if you don't know they exist, you will just keep on driving down Great Eastern Highway, or slip into one of the restaurants or fast food outlets across the road. The room itself is quite spacious and decorated in warm tones with a nice burnished red at the end. Unfortunately, it is insufficient to warm the place up as it is surrounded by glass and only has mirrors on the wall. The (attractive) mirrors do nothing positive for the room as they would be better off with paintings or wall hangings to take away the function room look. Tables are very well spaced out, which if they get more business, may not last! The tables and chairs are of the pub variety but are comfortable none-the-less. I have to say while the lack of a tablecloth didn't bother me, I thought not placing a side plate rather remiss of them.

Attention from the waitstaff was prompt, polite and cheerful with menus and water provided promptly, and orders for drinks and meals taken at appropriate intervals. We asked for the garlic Turkish bread to arrive quickly and before our entrees (six oysters Kilpatrick and sesame calamari and prawn salad), which we were assured would not be a problem as it only takes a few minutes. Hmmm, half an hour later the garlic bread and entrees arrived together. I guess when eating at a motel, 6:30pm is not a good time as they are getting the room service meals out as well as the restaurant diners'. Once these dishes came out, there was no more waiting - except for one errant Coke! (There was also one mix up with the glass of wine when a glass of riesling arrived instead of the bubbly that was ordered.)

The garlic bread and entrees were all well received and were well presented and tasty. The mains of proscuttio wrapped chicken breast with veges and the pie of the day (beef and mushroom) with salad and chips arrived after only a brief wait and were as attractive and tasty as the entrees. This is simple food, well prepared with full plates and each a complete meal without the need to purchase any sides.

For everything mentioned, less the Ent Book discount of $30, we spent $76 which was excellent value for what we had. We were both too full to tackle a dessert but they were also simple but attractive. In fact, all of the food coming out of the kitchen looked lovely.

The restaurant was busy despite the early timeslot and, as I said, the room service was a heavy drain on the staff as well. The staff handled it all well but could have communicated the early delay problems to us to be a bit more professional. Will return.
