Welcome to Fishy Affair Garden Restaurant (The)

Fishy Affair Garden Restaurant (The)

The fresh, cold depths of the Indian Ocean of Perth are home to a delicious array of fish, crustacea and shellfish, in splendid profusion.

Western Australians are priviledged to enjoy freshly caught seafood prepared in literally hundreds of ways from the simple pan fried fillet, to the truly exotic.

Our freshly prepared seafood will tempt your palate without breaking the bank, and our selection of Western Australian wines will surely impress you.

And that makes The Fishy Affair the perfect place to get together with a few friends for a long, lingering lunch or a pleasant dinner. We will offer you a warm welcome that is as fresh as our seafood.

The Fishy Affair is amongst the longest established restaurants in Northbridge. Because despite the meteoric rise in popularity of the region, we have never altered our simple philosophy: to provide simply brilliant seafood and friendly service, within the average diners budget.

Food:

My fiance ordered the seafood platter for one which was about $40. I asked for his opinion on the food, he said it tasted fresh, although there wasn't much of it. For the price it was, there could have been bigger mussels or more of the scallops / king prawns / oysters. I ordered a side of steamed vegies, they were good.. a side of cous cous.. was delish although it had some type of dried fruit in it and some raisins. I took them out and ate the cous cous on its own. For main I had the entree serve of the garlic prawns. Food prices were a little over the top. The non alcoholic strawberry daiquiri was yummy ~ try it!

Service:

Considering the place wasn't busy, the service we had was spot on. I'm not sure how it would of been if they were busy though.

Ambience:

We were the third couple there at the time. The area was neat and tidy. The painted walls were nice to look at. The outside area near the toilets is amazingly beautiful. I would love to eat out there in the warmer weather. They have fairy lights, a small fish pond ~ the fish are huge! :)

Overall:
My fiance and I wanted to eat at a restaurant where they had seafood. We came across The Fishy Affair, we were looking at the menu outside and a man came out to greet us. We noticed there weren't many people in the restaurant, in a way I liked it because we wanted to sit in a place where we could talk and hear ourselves. My fiance mentioned 'maybe it's because they're not popular'. We went in and tested it out.

It was a Saturday night and we had tried to book into several restaurants with no luck. We ended up going to Northbridge and eating here.

Two of us shared the seafood platter which was very reasonable.

Unfortunately two of the party opted for the salmon, which was less than impressive and was also served the mash with raisins which was also a bit odd.

Overall the meal was OK without really making us feel that we would return.

Our group of 14 adults and 2 children dined at the Fishy Affair on a Saturday night to celebrate a family members 50th birthday. The reservation was made a week prior by phone, however, on arrival we were told our table was not ready. It took approximately 25 mins to move tables, chairs and complete our set up.

30 mins later and the waiter started taking our order which took another 30mins, due to the number of guests.

Our entrees were brought out to us at different times and the last guest had to wait at least another 40mins from the time the first entree arrived. This was due to a kitchen stuff up.

A vodka and orange was sent brought out TWICE with no vodka. One guest received an oyster shot instead of a tomate juice.

We arrived at 7:00pm and didn't get our mains until 9:50pm.

Looking at the bill we noticed that we had been overcharged on two items.

As advised by the gentleman on duty, the owner had left the restaurant in his care, understaffed, inexperienced and during a busy time - Chinese New Year.

FOOD: Great food would have made up for bad dining experience, however, it didn't do that.

SERVICE: Our waitstaff had no idea what they were doing, but did try. In one word - terrible!

AMBIENCE: The front of the restaurant seems okay, however, we were seated in the alfresco area located to the back of the restaurant which overlooked the kitchen. The kitchen staff played as loud as the CD player would allow, the Britney Spears album half way through our dinner.

PRICE: We spent just under $900 for our worst dining experience. I'd say in general, average for the area. Entrees $18-$30 // Mains $28+
