Have been here perhaps 8 times, most recent August 2008. Overall, food quality exceptional. Seafood and vegetarian meals have been the standouts. Highly recommended. Also an eclectic wine list which is nice to see.
Hans in particular is nothing short of amazing. Other staff highly attentive. Some of the best service you will get in Perth. No complaints here.
More suited to romantic dinner than boozy business dinner or function. Overall, quite classy.

Overall, this restaurant has impressed me over a period of a few years. Highly recommended.
Holy moly! I haven't eaten this good... ever! The food at this restaurant is a gastronomic delight! I ordered a German dinner (as it was the special for the day) and it was sensational! I had the Leipziger Allerlei (which was marron, chicken and vegetables with rice in a fantastic greamy sauce) and although only listed as an entre, they were happy to serve it as a main for me. My partner had the Snapper and was also very satisfied. Both of us enjoyed a bottle of "Wine & Truffle Co's" Pemberton Riesling.
I must say, this place has service down pat! Many places could take a leaf out of their book. Greeted at the door, chair pulled back for me, napkin placed on our laps, always served on the right, re-filled glasses for us and NO stacking of plates to be seen! FANTASTICLY FANCY!
This is a very romantic restaurant and I have to agree with another reviewer... the chairs are very comfy! A great place to have an intimate conversation, relax to lovely and appropriate background music and to generally enjoy one's meal.
Overall:
Gala is a bit on the pricey side (starting at $30 for entres, around $45 for mains and around $40 for a bottle of wine) but well worth the treat because the food and service is just so fantastic. I'll be heading back in the future.
Food was absolutely flawless - a real fine-dining quality experience.
Both my partner and I had house special entree - marron/duck & truffle - very well presented and absolutely delicious.
Main was the Venison Fillet - very well balanced - the elderberry jus complemented gamey and well-cooked meat wonderfully. Presentation was very good indeed. My partner had beef which was also delicious. We shared the cheese platter - good range. Some nice breads/cracker selection would perhaps be preferable to the stock-standard water crackers - would offset the quality cheeses nicely.
The food absolutely stacks up against the best of them - star anise/ Jacksons etc - the restaurant just needs a bit of a face-lift.
Stand out service - very efficient and unobtrusive but still very friendly. Wine list is quite good - not huge, but an interesting number of interstate and foreign offerings. We were impressed when offered back vintages of our selections.
The decor is a little dated. The restaurant itself is in a gorgeous building, but the chairs are like something out of an 80's bistro. The light fittings are very old fashioned and the music was also very dated - like elevator music. Plastic grape vines should go. A re-vamp is required.
Overall:
A great experience - a real gem of a restaurant that, with a little modernization on the decor and ambition - could give the best of them a run for their money. The food was just wonderful - real fine dining done with creative flair. Just one (very minor) point - to really ramp things up, wines would benefit from glassware that showed them off.

Our dining experience here last week was overall very enjoyable, despite a minor hiccup!
The restaurant itself was decorated traditionally. From the outside it has a nice 'European' feel to it - soft lit lamps, window pot plants and hanging baskets. Inside was very spacious and also between the tables which is rare in restaurants because they are trying to fit more people in.
My partner and I shared one of the house special entrees - duck foie gras and truffle risotto with yabbies. It was sensational and beautifully presented! All 3 ingredients complement each other quite well - foie gras and truffle were rich and the yabbies were light and juicy! And the risotto was nicely cooked. We were glad to share this, because it was quite rich - and to our surprise, the kitchen staff has put in separate dishes for us rather than just the one - this I thought was nice thing to do.
Our mains actually came before the entree - however, the mistake was quickly noted and handled quite well by the staff. I had the carpaccio with lobster tart from the entree section as a main - this was quite ordinary but nicely presented. My partner had the oven roasted pigeon breast and it came as a whole bird - about the size of a quail.
For dessert, we shared their house special dessert which is the Salzberger Norkerl. Gorgeous and so beautifully presented!! I was skeptical about having this at first because it was described as like meringue which I don't like because of its super sweetness. It turned out to be like a souffle/sponge cake - very light and fluffy! It was served with cinnamon ice-cream which came in a sugar basket with a beautiful butterfly - it was almost too good to eat!
Staff were professional and friendly with knowledge of the food. Our coffee and tea came with nice chocolates. Our water was topped up without asking. This place is highly recommended if you want somewhere special!!
Overall:
We dined on a typically quiet night, being Tuesday so the service was flawless. The food (I had the Veal and Duck) was innovative, very well presented and seemingly heavily French influenced. Moderately wide wine selection and overall a very very pleasing evening!
Overall:
Even though we had a large group of people for lunch at this restaurant the standard of food and service was excellent. The restaurant's decor is beautiful creating a relaxed and intimate ambiance. Everyone's food was creatively presented and enjoyed by all. I look forward to going back to this restaurant for dinner one day soon. Highly recommended.
