We had Chicken Estevez with Mexican rice ($23.50) Colorado Prawns with Mexican rice ($28.50) and a Chicken and Prawn Enchilada ($18.50). The chicken was bland and the sauce hasn't been properly marinated in to the meat. It was more like Old El PasoI poured over. I am not a Mexican food expert but I thought the rice was under cooked. Except for the Enchilada servings are quite large.
There were 19 tables and four, including us was occupied. It took 50 minutes for the food to arrive. When asked for a take away container, the waitress told each container cost $2.00. When asked to speak to the manager to raise our dis-satisfaction about this excessive charge was told he/she was busy
Great. Very good for a family size gathering with ample space and western deco. Ample parking.
Overall:
It is unfortunate for a restaurant with such good potential to have lower standard of service and food. Would I visit again? unfortunately until such a time I see better reviews of this restaurant answer is no.
I had the Diablo (a chicken enchilada, a beef burrito & a beef taco with salad for $27.50) as I couldn't decide. My partner had the Rooster Ribs (HUGE pork ribs served with rice & wedges) which were very tasty. I was disappointed in the burrito, taco & enchilada though. Each were quite a large serving in themselves, smothered in cheese & salsa, but the meat wasn't seasoned with anything. I was expecting something akin or better than the "Old El Paso" taco kit I have in my cupboard, but the meat was incredibly bland. I've been to Tijuana & have enjoyed authentic Mexican cuisine first-hand. Where are all the jalapenos and lime that make your eyes water just to look at them? Not a chilli in sight, not even as a garnish. Very disappointing.
We weren't expecting it to be very busy on a Sunday night and on arrival were asked if we had a booking, which we didn't. The waitress made no attempt to conceal her frustrated sigh, but she was able to fit us in. Regardless of the day of the week, BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL!!!
The decor is fun & very interesting - lots of Mexican and "wild west" images. Even the walls are painted to look as though the rendering is breaking away from the brick underneath it. Quite a fun atmosphere and cozy at the same time, even tho it has the high ceilings of an old barn.
Overall:
I enjoyed my experience but I won't be rushing back anytime soon. Perhaps if they "spice up" the meat? The $12.95 chilli mussels and Corona special on Thursdays has piqued my interest, so I may find myself there sooner than expected. Food was okay, too bland to be called TRUE Mexican cuisine; the decor was lots of fun & the service was average. But, if you need a booking ANY day of the week, there MUST be something special about this place, I'm just not sure what it is yet.
Overall:
They had a mussels special on Thursday where you get a kilo of mussels done mild, medium or hot and a free corona for 9.95 so a bunch of us went to try it out. Yep, you did get quite a big bowl of mussels and the corona was superb after all the hot sauce. Get bread to mop up the sauce!
