Overall:
I visited Gucce restaurant on a Friday night with a large group of girlfriends. Gucce is a cosy little Italian venue hidden away in the suburban streets of Applecross. It's a lovely, warm, intimate place to visit on a cold winter's night.
The menu includes many authentic Italian comfort foods and some up-market dishes, too. Everything tastes homemade and consists of high quality ingredients and the service is prompt.
To begin on our journey of gastronomical delights, we discovered the Gucce tasting plate - This must be the closest I have ever come to being Italian! The portions of grilled Italian sausage were bursting with rustic flavours and I really enjoyed the pickled artichoke hearts, olives, marinated sardines, mushrooms and other tempting delicacies, all washed down with a glass of sparkling from the extensive wine list.
After much deliberation over the glorious mains menu, I finally ordered the prawns and prosciutto wrapped scallops in a spicy tomato based sauce with polenta ($31). This dish was bursting with flavour, however I found it a little on the salty side and in the end was regretting not having ordered the delicious looking veal dish across the table from me or the gourmet woodfired pizza on the right. However, the seafood in my dish was very fresh and cooked to perfection.
Uncharacteristically, I could not fit in dessert and instead chose to continue on the night's festivities at The Raffles down the road drinking overpriced bottles of cheap champagne! I will definitely return to Gucce one day, I think it's one of the best Italian restaurants in Perth!
