Overall:
Our visit to Halo was a first time for all of us in our group of six and we had a lovely evening. We chose either to have entree/mains or mains/dessert and while the extensive wine list might be a little overwhelming, we’d be surprised if you can't find something to your liking. We ended up sharing a nice bottle of Salitage Chardonnay and a Sangiovese from SA, as well as some beers and our water glasses were constantly refreshed.
The menu is interesting with a strong seafood focus, and some good meat dishes. The portion sizes were a bit more realistic and you didn't feel like the fatted calf after the meal. I liked the fact that the focus food was not hidden amongst superfluous salad to 'pad' out the meal and there was a good selection of side options. While none of us chose the cheese option at the end of the meal, there is an interesting selection that you can combine to your liking that would be well worth considering. The desserts menu is divine and I was very happy to forgo entree to indulge in a little something special at the end. The presentation of the food was wonderful and the taste even more so.
Each stage of the meal was served in a timely manner with no one waiting for someone else’s selection to arrive. The wait staff were courteous, friendly and attentive without being in your face. It was also refreshing to come across a waiter who could remember the entire order for our table (entree, mains, drinks), serve another table on the way back to the kitchen, get it all correct and didn't write it down or use one of those electronic ordering gadgets.
If you are price conscious I would recommend that you check their website beforehand for meals and drinks pricing, otherwise you could be in for a little surprise when the bill comes in, there is also no split billing. The only thing I really didn’t like were the chairs. There is only one other place in Perth that I’ve come across that has chairs as uncomfortable as these and as much as I enjoyed the wonderful food and would like to try some of their other offerings, uncomfortable chairs would stop me from a return visit in the near future.
