I Really enjoyed the food! We had the Chicken Momo to start. Half steamed, half fried. Very cool, almost Dim-Sum like. We shared the Lamb Cutlets, and a goat dish, with a mish mash of side vegies.
Some unusual and exotic flavours, well presented, and something a bit different.

Service:

Good, Not great but good. Friendly, polite waiter was happy to explain, but finished plates stayed a bit long on the table.

Ambience:

Quite pleasant, unusual colours and textures. Worked pretty well.

Overall:
I really enjoyed the experience. The menu starts with a half page chat about Nepalese food, and suggests some dishes that the chef specializes in. Very nice to have this and be able to read it at your own pace rather than have a waiter explain the basics to you. I haven't eaten Nepalese before but was pleasantly surprised and am now planning to take a group there. Overall, quite impressed, the food was delicious and different, the waiter was friendly and polite, just a real good experience.

We ordered lollipop chicken for appetizer, then large portions of the mild chicken curry, the lamb cutlets, the potato chips, and sliced beef with ginger and other spices for mains with a large rice for four people.
The lollipop chicken was a good appetizer with a mild spicy sauce. The mains were very well portioned and everyone managed to eat enough without being hungry or without any going to waste. The lamb cutlets were a bit plain and not what we were expecting. The beef was delicious, the meat was tender and really well seasoned with ginger, garlic, black pepper and lemon (possibly some other spices). The mild chicken curry was a lot tastier than expected, a bit like a butter chicken. the potato chips were a little oily but flavoursome

Service:

The service was friendly and efficient

Ambience:

The restaurant was full and so there was a good ambience of conversation and smiling faces. Just as well as the decor of the restaurant is quite plain with painted brick walls and cheap looking furniture and carpet. But it was clean and there was some Nepalese art and posters to brighten things up

Overall:
I really enjoyed the food as it was a lot better than I had anticipated. All meals were flavoursome and well cooked. The large option for portions would be required for regular appetites, as the small would definitely be too small. Good value for money (and its in the entertainment book) at $90 for four people after discount. However it is a place you would come for a casual mid week dinner with friends as opposed to on a date or particularly special occasion.

We had the THali as suggested by a previous reviewer. It was fantastic, all very tasty and gave you a good cross section of Nepalese food as we weren't quite sure what to order. The meat in the beef curry was a bit dry apart from that the lamb and chicken sekuwah was nice and the dhal was tasty as well as the Chicken Momo dumplings.

Service:

Couldnt fault the service. We were greated with a smile as soon as we walked in the door and shown to our seats. Food arrived in 15 mins and were asked twice if we would like any more top ups of the Thali.

Ambience:

Maybe the only thing letting this place down. A little bit of a mish mash of things on the wall like paintings, photos, fake flowers, along with a few plates that had been witten on by diners and hung up. Looked a bit strange and tacky. No music either.

Overall:
A great little place for something a bit different. We would definitely go back having had the Thali and now order from the full menu and know what we were ordering. The table arrangements could be better though with the ones in the middle all arranged in a long row and only separated by a couple of cm's. Felt like you were dinning with 20 others at once!

The food was fantastic! I was a bit apprehensive after reading other reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. My friend and I both ordered the Nepalese Thali, consisting of a large plate with many little dishes on it. The chicken curry was spiced to perfection, the tomato relish perfectly complemented the chicken dumplings, the potatoes and vegetables were cooked just right and were great for soaking up the extra sauce. The rice was nutty, and the puri (bread) went fantastically by its self or with the daal. Nothing was overly spicy, the meal was hot and flavoursome, all different flavours too, so a taste trip. Recommend the lamb sewuka, the most tender lamb I have ever had in my whole life!

Was great, the waiters were prompt, happy to explain everything on our plates and how to eat it, and provided us with a bottle of cold water and a bowl of fresh nuts and soybeans to nibble on. The restaurant was quite busy, but our meal only took 30 minutes.

Ambience:

Cosy place, very small and bustling

Overall:
Loved this place, and am determined to take as many people there as I can! Thali is a great way to try all the meals, comes with unlimited amounts (just ask for more of anything) and now I know exactly what to order next time!

Overall the atmosphere was great on the night we were there and the service is simple and easy going. This place is busy.

The food is probably the most disappointing. While is it certainty ok, we did not find it to be great value and kind of ordinary. Perhaps we ordered poorly.

Himali Gurkha probably is the only Nepalese restaurant in Perth. As you step into this smallish restaurant, you will be greeted by the sight of traditional Nepalese artifacts adorning the walls. I was keen to meet up with fellow EatingWA members but was glad that it did not eventuate as I would have felt a little embarrass. Started off well as were shown to our table and a bottle of water promptly brought out with a complimentary bowl of nuts. That was a nice touch, except the nuts were stale ! Then being the only diners, our food still took half an hour to be served. The worst part was the expectation of the lunch special as I had conjured in my mind that it was going to look like a picture on their website which I wrongly assumed was the lunch special, beautifully presented in metal bowls over a large metal plate. Was I disappointed when the food (not even a big portion) was cramped in a small dinner plate or was it a large dessert plate. Anyhow, that was a stark contrast to what I imagined. Hubby was definitely not impressed that I dragged him to join me as whether there was a meet-up or not, I had decided I wanted to try there. We came out not full with hubby having to pick on the kids school party leftovers.

The four momos (chicken dumplings), 1 piece of BBQ French cutlet, handful of Nepalese style potatoes, small bowl of dhal like gravy, a miserable half portion of white rice served with plain shredded cabbage & carrot looked downright dismal, I am sorry to say ! Don’t get me wrong, the food, whatever there was tasted simply delicious (except the salad) but the expectations diminish the positive experience that should have resulted. I believe the fillable set menus would have been a better choice. Unfortunately, I cannot convince hubby to give it another go.
