Overall:
this restaurant is quite nice but different i used to work here a lot of ppl feel out of place when coming here they used to tell me the food is homemade that’s why its more pricey & they don’t really like changes to the menu the portion sizes also people used to complain about but the pizzas always use to get good ratings!!

Overall:
Service: 4 stars, primarily for persistence! We were sitting outside (on what turned out to be a day with 40mm of rain) and partially undercover, yet they ventured outside so often initially that we felt a little rushed in giving our orders.

Food: An interesting tasting plate started us off; i.e. while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive, and while we were fighting off wait-staff, included 5-6 different items including a sesame toast (not prawn toast) which was a great appetiser.

The pizzas were very well constructed. For me, the mushroom pizza (with an impeccable durum wheat base) and featuring gorgonzola cheese instead of the more traditional mozzarella, was the dish of the day. Other members of the group had a more mixed day - while no-one complained about their meals, a couple of dishes went unfinished to a large degree (including the kedgeree - fish curry).

This place also offers tasting trays of beers - good idea and worth doing once. In practice, once you've established what you like, I suggest you stick to it - 4 of the 6 available beers didn't 'hit the spot' for me, and maybe you might have a similar ratio.

Overall:
The Indian Ocean Brewing company is brand new in Mindarie. I’ve walked past a couple of times and the actual building itself is very swanky. We decided to go and have dinner on Saturday night with friends. Firstly, I’ll tell you about the restaurant itself. It’s quite up market. I though the set up was very nice. With people being able to see where the brewing of the beer takes place in big copper tub things. They have made use of wood / bench seat tables for dining, which.. were different but not in a bad way. They are the kind of bench tables that use thin slats of wood, with gaps. So you can slip your coaster down through the top of the table. I suppose you would have to be careful to put your glass down correctly (or on a coaster).. we didn’t have any spillage so they weren’t a problem (and we were drunk).. The lighting is excellent with lovely use of unique lamps all over the place. My friend made the comment that he thought it was quiet amusing how they could just leave the concrete pillars in the places and chip a bit of cement out if it to give it a grated effect and ta-dah.. artwork. But it just gave to the overall effect of the place. Plus this place is right on the water so perfect location.
Ok next thing is service. We were showed to our bench seat table without delay by what I assume was a manager. (he looked in charge). Our waitress for the evening was a girl named Jo, and her service was absolutely fantastic. (we all made comment on how nice she was). She even offered us tastings of the wine by the bottle so we could choose a nice one. Tasting of beer & wine may be the norm there, I don’t know but it was still a nice touch that she brought them all to our table instead of us having to go to the bar. Only problem was at the end of the night they couldn’t find our bill, (there were a lot of people waiting to pay) but after such a pleasant evening it wasn’t too long a wait. They should bring the bill to the table..

The wine list is very small with only about 6 choices. The wine list would probably have to be my only real gripe, with one bottle for $36, the rest were the $45 - $50 mark and one bottle for $60. and only a couple of these were by the glass. I suppose they are trying to encourage the drinking of their beers. They also may be / most likely aiming for a certain type of crowd.. being.. not the type that go down the merriwa tavern =). Nice clothes(effort required), nice mannered people who are wanting a nice place to eat or drink. We had the bruchetta for entrée. I have to say it was the best I’ve had. $12 for 2 pieces (my hubby and I shared).. which seems a little expensive but it was beautiful & easy to eat, with kalamata olives and delish creamy goats cheese on top made it well worth it. For my main one of my friends and I had the BBQ pork ribs which I managed to eat with my knife and fork. These were quiet nice and came with tempura veges. My hubby had the fish of the day which he said was nice & my other friend had the peri peri chicken which was quite hot. The menu is not very big and is very simple, but was very nice never less.

We were too full to eat dessert. (this always happens).

The bill came too $210 for 4 of us which I don’t think is bad at all considering there was a $50 bottle of wine and a few big beers in there.

Overall was a nice experience and will go back. I want to do a lunch on the water in summer.
I hope this place does well as it is nice to have somewhere local that is NICE to go. Oh.. lunch starts at 11am. Dinner starts at 6:30pm and I’m pretty sure kids aren’t allowed after 3pm.
