I was introduced to Kublai 3 years ago and it has become an institution to my family, extended family and myself. We always have the prawn BBQ and I don't know anywhere else that you get at least a dozen of the freshest prawns cooked to perfection for $13. The staff are friendly and there is a very family feel to the place. Although the decor is a lot to be desired it makes for cheaper, tastier food! The chefs are artists and kids love watching them do their thing on the big Mongolian shield style BBQ. I definitely recommend visiting Kublai - it is easier with a seasoned Kublai customer though so ask me anytime.

The other reviews got it spot on - it isn't fine dining, but it's cheap, healthy and a fun experience.

My best friend has been going here since she was a little girl, so her skills in cramming as much into a bowl as possible (hint: pile meat vertically around the sides and use the extra height they give you to stack more inside!) are quite amazing. You'd be embarrassed, if it wasn't for the fact that every other regular patron is doing the exact same thing. Gotta love it.

Anyhow - the food is simple and pure. Nothing fancy at all, nothing hidden... It's lean, quick and healthy.

The service is fast and casual, and the decor is nothing to write home about. Again - it isn't fine dining, but it sure is fun dining.

Thank goodness for restaurants like this! Simple, quick, cheap - but most importantly, something a little different.

The menu is very basic but the process is unique. You choose your own raw ingredients, fill your bowl with as much as you can, and add whichever sauces you want. Then hand your bowl to the chef at one window, and pick up your cooked dish at the next.

There is nothing hidden from the customer here! The chefs are in full view in front of the massive inverted wok. Using large chopsticks, they BBQ your food, adding extra liquid if needed. Et voila!

The décor is basic, the service is fast, and the price is right. This is not fine dining by a long shot, but sometimes cheap and cheerful is all you need.

Pop in before or after a movie at Luna Leederville.

This is a great place to go for a really cheap and filling meal. The décor and ambience isn’t great but for $12 plate of bbq’ed meat and vegetable you really can’t complain.

The experience of making your own plate is quite fun also. I’d recommend it as a cheap eats kind of place for sure.
