- Ok but nothing at all special. My partner had the garlic prawns for entree and beef fillet for main, and enjoyed both but said neither was anything special. I had the escargot, it was OK, but I've had better. For main I had duck confit. It was plain duck, was quite tough and came with what I'm positive was instant gravy. I didnt eat my main, and this was taken off the bill. We waited an hour for our entree (restaurant wasnt busy), and it was over two hours before we got our main.

- I dont think the daggyness is cute. I think its lazy. Faded menu at the front stuck together with sticky tape, very dated furnishings including ripped vinyl chairs, toilets looked like they hadnt been cleaned since 1972 as well.

- I am amazed people would choose this place over Chez Pierre just down the road. Chez Pierre is absolutely gorgeous inside with amazing food and amazing service. I cannot believe they charge $47 for a main meal in a place like this. Its not a patch on Chez Pierre in any way. This is the only website with good reviews. A bit of googling found some more realistic reviews to what we experienced.

My wife and I opted for the three course meal for $65.00 each. I ordered the escargot for entree and the rabbit for main followed by the home made nougat ice cream. The escargot were tender and marinated in a garlic parsley sauce. The reminded me of the ones I ate in Paris. The rabbit was a little firm, but I was pre-advised of this when I ordered. In short, all three courses were absolutely divine! My wife ordered the fried camembert, rack of lamb and chocolate profiteroles. We also enjoyed a side of vegetables, which looked like ordinary steamed veggies, but had a wonderful nutty sweetness about them.
The restaurant is BYO alcohol only, so make sure you take your favourite wine to enjoy otherwise you can have a non-alcoholic drink. - Service

- Filippe the Chef and owner, took the time to sit with us to take our order in which he explained how the meals were prepared. It added that personal touch..true service that is hard to come by these days.

- Some may say that the restaurant is dated, but we felt transported back to the streets of Paris. The decor is homey and completely unpretentious. The lighting was soft and the music was classic French. A true authentic experience.

- This is one of my favourite restaurants in Perth, and to be honest I'm not that knowledgable about French cuisine at all. Regardless, each time I've been here, the food has been of an exceptional standard and perfectly cooked. Presentation is great and you won't find a better value for money deal for European food in Perth.

There are very few French restaurants in Perth, but we are so lucky to have this gem of an establishment that has been a quiet secret for more than 3 decades.
I originally dined at this restaurant when I was a young man and enjoyed the late 70's European dining experience which was popular before the birth of inexpensive Asian cuisines.
To my memory, it was as charming then as it is now and the food is still exemplary.
The decor is simple, ambient and a little dated, with a staircase going nowhere but the ceiling. But that's the charm of this restaurant. I find contemporary or modern-styled restaurants suffer overpriced, ordinary food and poor service. This restaurant is far from being pretentious, it's just simply excellent!
I revisited La Cascade on 08FEB08 with a group of friends and was so impressed by the incredible gastronomic menu and wide selection of unusual selections as beef tongue, escargots, lamb brains and duck confit to name a few.
You cannot dine so sumptuously anywhere in Perth for a $49.00 across-the-board set menu and I am already planning my next visit soon to savour the other wonderful selections!
The bill, including garlic bread and Evian water worked out at $55.00 per person and we were so satiated that there was simply no room for coffee after the meal.
Every dish was more than generously proportioned, exquisitely garnished and served to perfection - there was nothing to complain about - at all! Even the desserts were delicious works of art!
The staff warn you when they take your orders that you will be waiting a while before the food arrives; but that it will be worth the wait for the food to be prepared without haste.
I chose the lamb brains as entrée, delicious and hearty, my duck confit main course was so satisfying, I wish I'd tried this simple salt-rubbed and baked dish years ago. Even the steaks were done to perfection ..... voila!
The staff, as with most French restaurants worldwide are formidable. These 3 service professionals take dining at their restaurant seriously and our very chic and no-nonsense owner/waitress let us know she meant business when taking our orders.
No silly jokes about the pronunciation of the menu items please; this French lady is very sophisticated and charming. I really admired her professionalism.
After the table was cleared, even though it was late, we were told not to rush and to stay until we felt comfortable enough to leave our table. That's hospitality for you.
This restaurant is great for small groups or intimate dining as the food and service is flawless, but please don't go unless you have an adventurous flair for food and know how to savour very good French cuisine. If you want quick service and simple fare, this is not for you and you will be disappointed.
This is dining for serious gourmands and do remember to dress up for the occasion - this is not a casual dining experience.

It’s always a treasure to find a hidden secret of a restaurant and this is it. The value for money is amazing for the serving size and quality of the food, and it has the real homely feel with the owner/chef/ waiter who gets you.
It’s rare to find a restaurant where the food is so good that around the table everyone must sample each other’s dishes. The quality is great and with the serving sizes you will literally roll out the door.
Yes the decor is a little dated and the chairs not the most comfy but it feels less like you’re in a fancy restaurant and more like you have been invited into the home of a great chef and treated as nicely too.
I will definitely go again and thank my friend for introducing it to me.

Having recently returned to La Cascade, we were delighted to see that it is run by the same couple, who have now been operating the restaurant for around 30 years.
The La Cascade menu is well balanced, along with some mouth watering descriptions. It consists of a number of traditional, country style dishes from the various regions. Dishes are well presented, generous and satisfying.
Yes, the interior decor could be improved, for this was not an issue for us, given the overall dining experience. The friendly staff made us feel very welcome as always, and also took the time out to explain any questions we had about the menu, in a typical Gallic manner!
Highly Recommended

Some review said the restaurant is not decorated well, complaint about their food, so I went back there few weeks ago just to check on the food and service.
The male owner served us, he was very nice and make us feel so welcome, it feels like you are in a country town in Europe and served by one of their locals. Without a doubt, the restaurant is not well presented but that is why they only charge around $50 for a three-course meal! The food is very tasty; I especially love their onion soup. It is always boiling hot when it comes to the table so even when I finish the soup, it wont get cold.
I bought my friend who are visitors from Singapore, they were both impressed by their service and quality of their food. I will definitely go back again but may need to do more exercise before and after the meal to burn the fat!

-
My partner and I ate here for the second time last night and overall we had a good experience. As we lived in Paris previously, it is hard to compare any French restaurant outside of France to the real thing. I believe the owners here are from the South of France so while somewhat authentic, I would not really call La Cascade a purist's French restaurant where the food is concerned. Lack of nice French bread stands out as a primary reason for this. But I digress...the main reason to go to La Cascade is the 3-course meal for $49 deal. You can choose anything from their extensive menu and the portions are quite generous so you definitely get your money's worth.
From the entrees, my partner previously had the scallops, which he raved about last time. This time he got the chicken in a puff pastry and it was his only complaint about the meal. He said it was tasty but not quite hot and thought perhaps it had been microwaved. I had my second go at the escargots. They are quite good, served in their shells in a nice herb butter.
For mains we had roasted rabbit, which was tender and deliciously cooked to perfection. My filet mignon was delicious (though slightly overcooked), served wrapped in bacon with a melting of Swiss cheese on top. We had the garlic bread as a side. The garlic bread was better last time than this time but still quite good though you wonder why they don't just have plain bread available at least as a side item. How French people can operate a restaurant without bread is beyond me!
The desserts here are excellent. Our favorite is the nougat ice cream but my vanilla Bavarian with espresso sauce was quite good as well.
If you want to drink wine with your meal you have to bring your own but the corckage fee is only $2 a person which is cheaper than a lot of other places. Service is very friendly but a bit slow and we had to ask for the bread twice. And the restaurant, while dimly-lit and quiet, isn't very modern or upscale (the chairs are comfortable but ancient-looking). Overall, however, we had two good meals here and the value for money is a good draw.

-
My partner and I dined at this restaurant on a Thursday night. It was quiet, there were only two other tables with customers.
The owner was very friendly and came over for a chat and took our order, in fact he did all the waiting that night.
The building is old, I suppose I was expecting something modern like The Matilda Bay (which was the last restaurant we ate at), but it was serviceable. The pictures on the walls were in the style of medieval illustrations of kitchens and cooking, apt topics and they stood out from the rest of the decor and drew the eye. The lighting was on the dim side although not dim enough to be inconvenient.
My partner and I shared a bowl of French Onion Soup and Garlic Bread. The soup was delicious, although the garlic bread a little overcooked and crunchy.
For entree I had scallops and my partner had garlic prawns. We shared of course, they were both excellent. Although I was wishing I'd had the garlic prawns instead, they were very yummy.
For mains I had sole (fish) and my partner had fillet mignon. None of this giant plate/small servings nonsense here, the servings were generous and filling. Both meals were excellent, the fillet mignon was tender and tasty, the sole was accompanied by a tasty sauce. I was wary of lots of bones, but happy to report I found only a couple. The side dishes of vegetables were cooked perfectly, not overcooked which I hate, just the right amount of crunch and softness.
Desert - chocolate bavarian with orange sauce for me and my partner had nougat ice cream. Both excellent.
By that stage we were both full, in fact I felt full all the next day as well.
Not a cheap place to eat, most mains were about $30, entree prices varied from $9-$19 I think. I found the food to be excellent, the service friendly and the timing of the food being brought out was perfect. No long waits between courses, but enough time for the previous course to settle a bit and to have a chat.
We rolled out of La Cascade fat and happy. I'd go there again, and I dont think there is a better indication of a positive restauranting experience than that.
