For entree I had the squid ink and crab tortellini with butter and caviar topping. I think this is the most delicious entree I've ever consumed. The black pasta was filled with tasty meat, and when you chewed and the salty little caviar beads burst in your mouth it was like heaven! For a main I had the regular beef fillet (not the Wagyu special) and it was easily the best cooked steak I'd had in a long time. The truffled peas on the side were also delicious.

My partner had a Wagyu beef and quail egg salad for entree which he enjoyed, and a rabbit and prawn pasta in an almond sauce for main which he also thoroughly enjoyed.

We indulged in some bread and olives to begin, and were unfortunately too full for dessert!

Fantastic. Our waiter was friendly and confident, not too cold as I find in some restaurants. Tap water was offered up front, so you don't feel 'cheap' for declining bottled. Glasses were topped up regularly without us being interrupted, and staff were close by if we required attention. Perfect!

Ambience:

Simple modern furnishings and soft light make for a lovely atmosphere. I'm looking forward to returning in summer for an outdoor table overlooking the water. The bathrooms however could do with a bit of a face lift, some towels or a flower arrangement would make it feel less like public toilets!

Overall:
We've eaten at a lot of Perths 'best' restaurants recently and left feeling a little uninspired. This evening at Lamont's however was perfect. Delicious creative food that isn't trying too hard to be different, friendly yet attentive service, and 'special' yet reasonable prices. We will definitely be returning, and next time hopefully with enough space remaining to share a dessert!

lovely location. attentive service. nice ambience.

we had a nice liver pate for entree, and nice desserts (profiteroles and ice cream). the menu was nice and interesting. but .. both our mains were very average. we had lamb and steak, and honestly, we make nicer at home. about the quality of a $20 main (which cost nearly $40)

sorry to say we wouldn't go back.

My husband and I went there for his birthday last month. The service was exceptional - we never had to ask for our glasses to be refilled and never had to wait for anything. We had the wagyu beef (special) and the normal beef, which were good - we've had better wagyu (at Burswood Victoria Station) but really the service made up for it. They were cooked exactly as we had ordered. Excellent.

I have visited Lamonts three times, each in quite different circumstances. The first time was for Sunday breakfast after a long walk around the bridges. The eggs benedict was fantastic. I would recommend this to anyone. The second visit was for an event that filled the venue - almost overfilled. In spite of the crush and the fact that they had everyone to serve at once, the service was superb and so was the food.

Finally this year I went to Lamonts for dinner in the evening. The a la carte menu was great. Good variety. Interesting choices too. I had swordfish on mashed parsnip. Simply wonderful. My companions both had the Marron and were very impressed. The ambience was probably the best this time, as the noise levels were lower than on both the other occasions it was a wonderful place to enjoy good food and good company.

Thought I'd take my mum to Lamonts for Mothers Day 13th May. We had a booking for 2pm to avoid the big mother’s day lunch rush!

We were greeted promptly by the MaitreD and seated outside at a lovely table overlooking the river.

Fresh bread was delivered straight away as we pondered over the menu.....

Firstly, mum ordered a bottle of the 2003 Lamonts CabMerlot $42.00.

For entree mum choose the Saffron fried squid with carrot emulsion, caponata and scallop salsa $18.50.

I ordered the Pan fried potato gnocchi with Roquefort cream, roasted pears and rocket $18.50.

We shared our entrees so each could get a taste and we both agreed that whilst the squid dish was nice, it was nothing sensational. It was basically on a bed of tiny diced up Ratattoui. - Having said that, it was up against the delicious gnocchi ! This dish was morish !! We just wanted more, the different tastes just blended so well - it just melted in the mouth. The pears were so moist and tender whilst still being crisp on the outside!!

For mains, mum had the Braised duck leg with duck Sheppard’s pie and pink peppercorn jus $38.00.

For me, it was the Beef fillet, mushroom and braised rib pastille and Tuscan cabbage $41.00.

I didn't taste mum's duck, but she said it was very nice and the Sheppard’s pie was very tasty.

Now I don't like a steak with heaps of blood on the plate so between the helpful MaitreD and myself, we decided to order Medium to Well done. She said it was very thick and it would be a good idea to order it medium to well. I must admit, I had trouble getting through the whole meal because it was a bit overdone for medium to well. There was no sign of "the thin pink strip" in the middle.

As the afternoon rolled by we moved inside to have coffee. We shared the Creme Caramel with toffee banana and golden raisin syrup $16.00. The bananas were simply delicious and we both thought overall the dessert was yum!

All up we had a very enjoyable afternoon, couldn't fault the service and the stand out for the day was definitely the gnocchi everyone!!! Total = $181.80

Ate there last Saturday. Sat outside in chilly night. Service was just about flawless throughout - understated and not intrusive at all but neatly aware and responsive.

A glass of the (waiter-recommended) Tasmanian Champagne to start, set us off for as perfect a meal as you could hope for. Also had Lamont's 2005 Chardonnay, which weas excellent, but had to return to the Tasmanian Champagne.

The food was delicious. Lots of well-pitched flavours, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection.

For starters, my partner (who's vegetarian) had the Goats cheese and herb tart, which was the best she had ever tasted. For main, they were kind enough to create the other (vegetarian) starter of Pan fried potato gnocchi with Roquefort cream, which was equally impressive.

I had the air-dried wagu with fetta (a beautiful, creamy dou) followed by the lamb cutlets, with a side of the roast potatoes with chorizo/onion. Excellent.

I'd recommend you take a warm jumper if you sit outside from here until Spring, but they also have heaters when it gets too cold, or upon request.

You go to a resturant for great conversation, good service and (hopefully) for food so good you can't cook it yourself. Lamont's delivers on all of these. Very well priced for such high standards.

Have just returned from a special luncheon at Lamont's and thought I should write this whilst it is fresh in my mind.

Lamont's is sensationally situated on the boardwalk at East Perth and on this "picture postcard" afternoon we were seated at a beautifully set table for two on the outdoors area.

The table was attractively presented with crisp white linen, quality stemware and well polished cutlery (it is a pet hate of mine to be given "spotty" cutlery when it takes only a little effort to get it right!)

My only criticism of the service for the whole day was that the maitre de should have spread the napkins for us! You can see I am from the old school!!

The menu while not large should be able to satisfy most people and I found it offered a most interesting array of different dishes to those that I normally encounter.

I chose the special of the day entree of Prawn, Asparagus, Spinach and crisp fried poached egg. Absolutely delicious. The Prawns (tail on) were placed on top of very lightly blanched Asparagus (that still retained its fresh crunch) both of which were on a bed if wilted English spinach, the dish being topped with an egg that had been lightly poached then quickly deep fried so that the outer became crisp with the yolk still soft to provide its own dressing to the dish.

For my main I went for the Braised duck leg with sheppard's pie of duck, and pink peppercorn jus. Again the dish was attractivly plated and whilst not huge was large enough in quantity to satisfy a gourmand but may have been a little small for a "glutton" Unfortunately I find too many people confuse quantity for quality.

Being a small person my wife chose two entrees and found them more than sufficient. To start she chose Air dried Wagyu with Delphic fetta. truffled grissini and herb salad. The beef melted in the mouth as one would expect from Wagyu however the fetta was perhaps too definite a flavour for the delicate Wagyu. Her second choice was Goats cheese and herb tart with sorrel, creme fraiche and frisee. This dish was beautifully balanced and the flavours were harmonious and fresh.

We shared a Desert selection that comprised of a caramel choux puff a small creme caramel and a slice of an almond tart with a rasberry coulis. Each in its own right was delicious and together complimented one another.

We were not feeling like drinking much so selected to have a glass each of the excellent Lamont's SSB. It was an admirable partner to all our Entree and Main dishes.

The topic of wine leads me to the prices at Lamont's. This is not a cheap place to dine, the Entrees ranged from $17.50 to $19.50, Mains from $36.00 to $42.00 and desserts $11.00 (for icecream) to $18.00. While the prices are on the high side it was the wine list that struck me. I can’t remember a bottle for less than $40.00. I have no problem with a restaurant having a markup of about 100% on their "Landed Unit Cost" but think that when it approaches 300% I am being ripped off. I think that Lamont's would do well to revisit their wine prices and I am sure that they would find that increased turnover would more than offset the reduced margin if they were to lower prices.

We finished with an excellent Short Macchiato.

Lamont's is the perfect place for special occasion dining and despite my comments on the wine price I would happily return to enjoy the ambience and fine food on offer.

We had a business lunch at the venue and were very impressed with the location and, initially, the service provided. Our wine glasses were never allowed to empty, and the menu, while somewhat limited in variety, offered enough to tempt our taste buds. I chose the wild mushroom crepe with cep cream and tatsoi salad ($17.00) for an entree and the beef fillet with cassoulet, braised lettuce and brioche croutons, done medium well ($41.00). The crepe was excellent - rich in its savouriness, and perfectly presented. I was, however, slightly disappointed in the fillet - for such premises, reputation and price (!), it presented very simply and lacked the kind of flavour and meaty experience one would expect from Lamonts.

We finished the meal with dessert and I opted for the treacle chocolate cake with stout ice-cream ($14.50) - which somewhat made up for the ordinary mains. However, it appeared that staff attentiveness flagged somewhat after the mains. One of our party had to reluctantly miss out on dessert as it appeared to have been forgotten either by the wait or kitchen staff. It would have been nice if the efficient service we received at the start of the meal was maintained to its closure. This small experience tarnished what could have been an excellent luncheon experience for a group of 8 business people.

Perhaps the wait staff were somewhat distracted by the view... or the incredibly modern and funk decor... or the wall hangings in the Holmes a Court gallery next to the restaurant floor. :-)

We arrived for a 2pm Friday lunch with 8 people; I was surprised to notice the restaurant was still very full at this stage.

The actual venue itself is impressive, a great location right on the water edge. Inside the décor is funky with dramatic wall colours and good sense of space. Large pains of glass maximise the tranquil river view.

I’ve heard good reviews about Lamonts so was looking forward to experiencing it myself. I quickly noticed the service was snappy, I’m always pleased when wait staff top up your wine glass without you noticing.

The menu selection was fancy with a lot of things I actually wanted to order and the wine list was extensive. I ordered for entrée, the wild mushroom crepe with cep cream and tatsoi salad ($17) which I really liked, great one to start with. My main was the truffled corn fed chicken breast, confit leg with porcini mushroom risotto ($37), perfectly cooked and intensely flavoursome, a lot of the other guys had the Beef fillet with cassoulet, braised lettuce and brioche croutons, which looked nice but was a tad on the small size. For desert I had the white Valrhona chocolate mousse with mandarin reduction ($15), the flavours of the white chocolate mousse and mandrarin really work well, quite enjoyed this desert. A couple of the guys had the Treacle chocolate cake with stout ice-cream, I was intrigued by the beer flavoured ice-cream, and they said it was quite nice.

I must say that all the meals were presently brilliantly which you would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. We only had one issue which was a desert that failed to come out, obviously some kind of mix-up but other than that I thought the service was really good especially considering they were quite busy.

I was impressed with Lamont’s in the end and think it’s a great place for a special meal as the menu isn’t cheap.

What a great place for mothers day breakfast! The water views are fantastic and the prices very reasonable for the quality and freshness of the food as well as the location. Service I imagine is usually of a high standard but unfortunately our waitress decided to not write our orders down, and failed to memorize them properly, meals came out wrong and at different times which was extremely disappointing.

I ordered the sweet corn fritters, smoked salmon with roast tomato and poached eggs which was delicious! The eggs cooked perfectly, smoked salmon and rockett is a wonderful combination and the corn fritters were a nice touch (though there were only 3 and they are pretty small).

Scott had (and i sampled) scrambled eggs on milk toast with bacon and sautéed mushrooms. I haven’t heard of milk toast before but it was very thick bread that was super soft and soaked up all the flavours beautifully! Scrambled eggs were fluffy and light and very tasty.

Another choice was the crab and chive omelette with smoked paprika and olive toast which was apparently very impressive, but on return i will be trying the vanilla pancakes with rhubarb and strawberry compote and mascarpone cream which was at the next table and looked very exciting!

I will definitely be back - maybe for a function as they have very good prices for drinks and platters and at night it would look wonderful!
