Overall:
The Last Drop Brewery is a quirky Mock Tudor mansion pub stuck incongruously on a grubby spot along the bumpy Nicholson Highway. As you pass by you can see the huge metal beer barrels through the windows, containing the local brew they make themselves.

Inside, the place offers a low key mish-mashed decor reflecting the Tudor period, which makes you feel you have walked into a partial set of Black Adder II, and a comfortable local pub feel with the open kitchen, bar and big screen TV. The service is a bit rushed on a busy Friday evening, but warm and friendly as you would expect in an institution such as this and our personal waitress was really lovely.

Now I am not a beer drinker at all, but in keeping with the spirit I tried the Brewhouse Light which promised to be most suitable for the female palate. Served with a slice of lemon I am happy to report that I quite enjoyed the spicy, clove tasting beer. For dinner (I guess to compliment the beer!) I had the wild mushroom risotto. The serving was huge! I am not sure how they prepare the risotto, but I found small chunks of, white rice' within the risotto, but nothing a stir myself did not fix and I found myself enjoying the hearty risotto with large chunks of nicely browned chicken.

Starrhusband had the grilled salmon which came upon a bed of potato salad, which I thought would have perhaps been nicer warm, but it was all polished down with the beer. He did comment though that the centre of the salmon was a bit too rare for him, so as a suggestion, perhaps they should like with a steak, ask how it would like to be done?

For dessert they have a large selection of out-house cakes and we had a sticky date pudding cake (warmed and with cream) to share which topped the night off nicely. Too full to fit in a tea or coffee.

Overall, we had a really nice, low-key, warming pub-grub style dinner. With the entertainment voucher it cost $40 which is great value for a main and beer each and a shared dessert. Anyone looking for a casual or group dinner who really appreciates beer and a hearty feed would like this place, it really is a unusual gem hidden in the run down, industrial section of Canning Vale - lets hopes urbanisation helps to increase the profile of The Last Drop and not demolish it!

Overall:
The Last Drop was pretty busy when we arrived for dinner on a recent Monday evening. Lots of family tables which always seems the case here. We had booked so there was no problem with getting a table and we were glad the fire was going. We were promptly served for drinks and given our menus. I guess you could say it was “normal” pub fare and the meals coming out looked great. We ordered a serve of bruschetta to start with and I did get a little worried when I saw people on 2 occasions walking up to the servery to check on the whereabouts of their meals. I did have to walk to the bar to order my second drink as I couldn’t seem to catch the eye of any of the wait staff, they seemed a bit run off their feet. The wine list was adequate with quite a few varieties available by the glass and a good selection from WA .

There wasn’t much of a wait at all before the bruschetta arrived and it was piled high with lots of fresh tomato, basil and Spanish onion. The bread was thick and fresh and it went down a treat. More wine was ordered (table service this time) while we waited for our mains.

We both ordered steak (the same meals the other reviewer ordered!)– scotch fillet with field mushroom for him and a sirloin reef and beef for me.

They must have been short on mushrooms as my husband’s steak arrived with only half a field mushroom on top but it did look great! He had lots of mash and I was happy with my chips, side salad and 5 decent sized prawns. Both steaks were cooked just as we had ordered and were lovely and tender. It was a really nice enjoyable meal, and using our entertainment book to get one of the mains for free made it even better. It always seems busy here as it is pretty popular and so the service isn’t always the best, but we had no real complaints. And the opportunity to taste some of the variety of beers on offer is a nice added bonus.

Overall:
Housed in a Tudor style mansion, the Last Drop Brewery looked inviting enough from the outside but once you enter you are immediately struck by the spaciousness of the place and with the log fire heaters burning it created a warm and pleasant homely feeling. Surprisingly, half the diners were families with young children. Pity that there was no kids play area as there is no doubt that they could afford the space.

With the Entertainment voucher of a free main, it was absolutely good value. My hubby had the scotch fillet served with mash potato, field mushroom & grilled tomatoes. With the port sauce, the 300g Scotch cooked medium retained its juiciness and tasted just perfect.

I had the beef & reef - sirloin steak with 4 prawns in a Provencal sauce served with chips and the salad in a separate bowl. Had it medium and if we were to be picky and find any fault, then it was that the meat was a little dry (esp. after tasting the scotch). Perhaps it was the cut of meat where medium-rare would have been a better choice. However, the sauce was simply delectable and I wished there was more.
We also ordered one kids meal - beer battered fish & chips which was done well too and not oily.

We downed our meals with a pint of beer ($7.30). Not being beer drinkers we chose the least bitter (Brew house Wheat) of the 4 choices and found it refreshingly delightful. Their beer is brewed locally. There is also a wine menu and cocktails - 10 choices at $14 each.

Overall, a very pleasant night out. Only gripe which does not affect most (unlike us with 3 young kids) is that they do not take food orders until 6pm.
