My companion and I both had the mixed grill, which was very tasty but weren't very large servings. The sauces were delicious. We also ordered a side dish of fries, which were also very nice.

Service:

We hadn't booked and the waiter made a fuss about trying to fit us into a half empty restaurant. Otherwise we were impressed with the timing of the arrival of our meals.

Ambience:

Very noisy, but thankfully our table was in a carpeted room. Doesn't seem to have a very 'friendly' feel.

Overall:
It is a novelty, it's great to go there at least once but it's quite expensive so glad we had the EatingWA card.

I agree with other reviewers that the meat was well sourced and good quality, but I still don't think this justified the prices we paid for each dish. We had the mixed grill and the Mediterranean lamb. The mixed grill seemed like the better choice as the chicken was particularly tender and the marinated steak looked delicious. The Bearnaise sauce was yummy.
My lamb dish was well seasoned and tasty. However the menu stated that it contained oregano, feta, olives and cream cheese, and I could only really taste the cream cheese and oregano. The chutney/chili dipping sauce was bland.
I did not think the potatoes were gourmet (as the menu stated), they were just boiled with their skins on with no seasoning.
The salad was disappointing.

Service:

The service was clumsy but friendly and attentive. The wait staff were courteous and polite in spite of being rushed off their feet.

Ambience:

The restaurant has a lot of hard surfaces so we found it noisy and quite hard to hear each other. Obviously, the atmosphere was also smokey but that was to be expected. The artwork on the walls however was nice but overall the feel of the restaurant was a bit "shabby".

Overall:
I have been once but would not go back or particularly recommend it. The stone is a novel idea but the food is forgettable in my opinion, and over priced. There are a few other restaurants that also incorporate a cooking stone, and they are better in my opinion. We did get to use our VIP card however, which was one reason why we went so that was good.

This place is my ideal restaurant. Just like Cream and Dear Friends, they really put effort into finding great produce in the meat department.

Do not go here if you are vegetarian, you will just waste their time and annoy people like me. This place is obviously not for vegetarians, deal with it!

Two reasons why this place is great; first, you get to ensure your meat is cooked exactly how you like it, instead of hoping the chef gets it right, which hardly ever happens for me!

The second reason is because it is literally VERY easy to do, good fun and you can see everyone else’s meals, not worry much about the cooking process, have a chat with everyone and it's a good time all round.

Service was flawless, although the young cute waitress didn't laugh at one of my jokes, so I’ve taken 0.5 stars off for that.

I will be taking a lot of different people here and I know they will love it because they love their food and produce.

Pricing is great for the quality meat that is served. Not one person in the 10 person table, including some fussy Belgians could fault anything, and they chose the place too!

After parking out the back in the gravel pit of the tutoring centre next door and viewing the rather dodgy looking restaurant front which looked small with a terribly done colorbond fence, the rest of the night turned out to be as full of surprises - in positive ways!

The converted house is charming, with funky decor and many individual dining areas. We sat in a breakout area in the middle of the restaurant and it was a perfect location. The tipping bowl on the front counter was already overflowing with notes by the time we arrived at 7.30 and friendly service did not fail!

I ordered the mixed grill and despite my initial reservations that it would be hard to cook (I am the type that gets stressed at steamboats!) all that was required was cutting (a very good knife is provided) and turning of the meat. No complaining the meat was not done to your liking! The stone stays hot for 45 minutes and we had plenty of time to chat and we whiled away a good 2 hours there including the consumption of desserts - I had the upside down banana cake with butterscotch sauce - yuuuuummmmm! Another novelty which I don' think has been mentioned yet is the ice cream - it comes presented on a "cold" rock and stays in its scoop shape for ages so you can virtually take as long as you like to eat it.

It has been said that they do not marinade their meats, but because the meat is such a high quality, I actually appreciate being able to taste the natural flavours, plus you do get yummy dipping sauces.

I don't think vegetarians would fare too well here and yes you do leave smelling like your dinner and if you have a beard your beard will also smell like meat. Don't bring a jacket because I felt like I was having a sauna and had to take mine off.

I had fun here! You could say it's a very organic experience. I was the one who was least interested in coming here, but now - I would like to come back!

Delish and healthy what more can you ask for?

I took my partner to this restaurant and when first mentioned that it was a place where you cooked your own meat the grumbling started but by the time we left he was waxing lyrical about buying his own stones to cook at home for guests!!

We started with the turkish bread and dips which was HUGE!! There was so much bread we actually ran out of dip and not because there was not enough!! a nice change in the perth dining scene. The three dips where beetroot, roast capsicum and pineapple and although the pineapple was a little sweet for our liking it was soon gobbled up.

We ordered buffalo and the steak for main course - and definite value for money - the steak was massive!! The buffalo was a little on the smaller side but still more than enough and thankfully since you get to cook the meat yourself you have no one to blame but yourself if its overcooked!

The one drawback is you and your clothes will come out of the restaurant smelling like meat - but we all shower right? and im sure the washing machine wont mind cleaning a few items of clothing...

This restaurant is great. Food was good, it may not be fancy but the cuts of meat are excellent. Staff are friendly and prices are very reasonable. What more could you ask for. A fun restaurant for a group.

We had the Buffalo and the mixed grill and they were both great! I loved the dipping sauces that came with the potatoes, we shared the mixed vegetables and by the time we finished all of the meat we were stuffed!

Mixed grill is definitely the best value for money. The meat was of a very high quality - I have not had such good quality before except at Morgan's in South Perth.

Staff were fine. The only bad point is if it is cold and the door is open the stink of fish does go out but it is freezing inside.

I found this restaurant quite a novel experience. I wasn't too fussed about the cooking your own meat thing as it didn't really require anything more than cutting up the meat to bite sized pieces and keeping an eye on it to make sure it didn't overcook. The smells of cooking right in front of you is reminiscent of a Sunday afternoon bbq at times.

We had the pork fillet which was coated in mustard seed and spices as well as the "Game of the Day" which was camel medallions. I'm not very big on heavy marinades so I was pleased to find the camel had not had any added spices or flavourings besides salt. I find that gamey meat is better when one is allowed to savour the flavours of the game itself rather than trying to disguise it with heavy spices. The spices on the pork, however, worked well to enhance the flavour of what is normally a fairly bland meat.

The sides that come with the mains is fairly bland, two whole potatoes which have been boiled or steamed and a bit of leafy salad. Minimal dressing, which I like(though others may not) and a dipping sauce to go with the meat.

For dessert we tried the chocolate tasting plate for two, which in hindsight was not a good idea as we had hot chocolates as well and were struggling to finish it in all its chocolaty goodness.

Bit pricey, with most mains around the $30 mark and drinks are very expensive, but there are number of ways to get discounted meals, such as entertainment book or west club card vouchers as well as Weekday specials, such as Mondays where the second main is half price.

Service was fantastic, the staff were incredibly friendly and bubbly, and were quite prompt in taking our orders or checking on how we were enjoying our meals, drinks etc.

Parking is also a bit of an issue, as there isn't very much of it and the parking at the rear is a bit dodgy looking.

This place is worth a try, if only for the novelty experience. The food tastes good if you go for the more exotic dishes rather than the fillet steak or seafood and is also a more healthy option as the meat is trimmed of all fats and there is no oil used in the cooking.

My first impression of this restaurant was a let down, as I felt as if they didn't make much effort to make the place look classy or whatever they were trying to achieve. For the price you pay, I expected a little more than what it is.

The staff were alright, friendly. I can see why some may feel that they are snotty. It's between friendly and professional, like they can't make up their mind what kind of customer service they want to have there. But I'm not from Perth and most of the other Perth restaurants suck at customer service, so if I compare with those restaurants, this restaurant score high score.

Most importantly, the food was great! I had bush tucker for entree and premium beef for main. They were all juicy and tasty. They are only few places in Perth where they have high quality beef like here. Kangaroo and crocodile were excellent too. Especially crocodile, as I had crocodile before, but never knew you could have a "good quality" crocodile!

You do forget or oversee the restaurant interior more than I imagined.

It's a shame not to try the beef if you go there.

This restaurant was awesome. I'd never tried things like crocodile, kangaroo or camel before, but the quality of the meat and the manner in which it was served/cooked; in the unique stone-grill way, made the experience a really positive one. I'm not sure if any of those meats are any good usually or if it's just this place. The beef was amazing. Never seen anything like it; not in Perth anyway.

Ambience was alright. Not 5-star or anything, but where in Perth is it? Even the hotels here suck for that. Service is a joke in WA as well, but the guys here were quite warm and hospitable, despite a more middle-class hippy sort of feel. It was nice for a change, but it’s hard for them to convey the method of cooking and the optimal conditions for each meat in any detail, because it's a bit more complicated than your usual restaurant.

My only complaint would be that the Pinot Noir (Marlborough region one) I ordered was not lightly chilled (~30 mins?) like I would have hoped. In spite of this, it was so bloody good that it tasted fantastic warm anyway. It really suited the style of food too.

On the whole, not a cheap option, but one that's actually WORTH the money you pay, which is a great thing for Perth. (So easy to pay 5-star rate for food that tastes like it’s less than HJ's)

There was a bit of debating as to whether or not to dine here. Does one pay restaurant prices to cook the dinner one self?
After deciding the the experience sounded novel we made a booking for 7.30pm. We arrived to a buzzing newly established restaurant. The ambience was lacking to a degree with cheap furnishings and the like.

We ordered the entree served on the stone, followed by the mixed seafood stone and the stuffed chicken stone. The food turned out very tasty! Very healthy way to cook, the food was refreshing in the way that it wasnt complicated, drenched with sauces or spices etc.

The service was friendly and prompt. This restaurant won't be a regular haunt but I recommended you give it a look if your after a bit of fun and don't mind cooking it yourself.

This place is a real novelty, and is the kind of thing you should definitely try once. Some love it, some hate it!

The cuts of meat offered are very good, tender and free from fat. Dipping sauces are very average, nothing spectacular at all.

I personally prefer having my food cooked for me, as this is why I go to a restaurant (so that I don't have to cook myself!) and I believe it tastes better when professionals do it. I also don't really enjoy having to concentrate on cooking while I'm chatting to friends etc.

The other thing that bothered me was that your clothes come out stinking of meat, and the smells inside the restaurant itself are very strong and off-putting for people who don't love their meat.

Kids will enjoy this place, while parents have to cook their food for them they enjoy the novelty. Try their ice cream (comes complete on a frozen rock with your choice of toppings such as Gummi bears, Crunchie chocolate, smarties etc.)

My second visit to the Stonegrill Cafe confirmed my belief that their beef is the best in Perth. The meat/poultry is bought out to your table seared on one side and ready to turn over and cook to your own personal choice. There is no chance of complaints to the chef!

I had the Wagyu beef (Japanese style marble beef), and having lived in Japan for a long time I can easily say that it is most comparable to the quality coming directly from Kobe.

I recommend Stonegrill for work functions and dates.

Absolutely loved this place, if you like your meat, eat here!

Food is served to you on a 400 degree volcanic stone and you finish cooking it to your own perfection.
My partner and I shared the bushtucker skewer combo which was camel, kangaroo and crocodile. All extremely tasty.

For the main course I had the mixed grill which was chicken, beef, pork and lamb. Every piece of meat was so juicy and tender, not sure whether cooking it on the stone had anything to do with this. I thought it was better than if someone else had cooked it for me.

Service was excellent as well except for one small stuff up with our entree but that was fixed in about 2 minutes.

The food here comes served semi-raw on a slab of rock (molten lava) which is very hot, and then you are responsible for cooking the meat to your satisfaction.

A total novelty, but very enjoyable.

I ordered the bushtuckers meal, which contained cuts of crocodile, kangaroo, camel and deer. The crocodile was delicious, the kangaroo and camel were pretty good and I could not stand the deer - I think this was because I was unsure how long to cook each item for, even after instruction from the waiter.

Overall I enjoyed the novelty, but I don't think the food tasted as good as if a professional had cooked it for me, and I found the prices fairly high.

I would recommend this place for a date, to try something different and fun.
