I had my birthday lunch here in October 2007. I had about 35 people attend. I had organised a set menu which was reasonably priced. The food was fantastic...huge servings. I had the steak - it was rather large but unfortunately over cooked..as were a a few at our table whilst some were undercooked..think they might have served some incorrectly. Those that had the fish or chicken salad raved about their meal. The dips & soups to start were spot on as was the cake for dessert - mind you servings of the cake were not huge. The cake - carrot & choc mud were delicious. Service whilst friendly was not all that good..meals came out in dribs & drabs and we had to ask several times when the last or 2nd last person might get their meal. I know we had a big group but I would think they would be used to serving diners at the same time. Having said that I would definitely go back...I can see past average service for a fantastic view (restaurant overlooks a picturesque pond) and great food.

Finally there’s a cafe with large portion sizes!
I visited the Mallard Duck Cafe on a Sunday with my mother, husband and both children. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who seated on the veranda, which took our order soon after. We started with a small cheese plate and kids’ plates for the kids, and the small cheese plate was not small at all and looked more like a large! This was followed by a duck for my mother, a steak for my husband and I had the chicken pasta. We were all so stuffed after this meal that I had absolutely no room for dessert.
I must say this really impressed me, I'm so sick of taking the family out spending a fortune and leaving hungry. The view was really pretty and place had a real country feel, the only thing that would have made the meal better was if we could have ordered wine, we didn't know that it was only byo.
I would recommend The Mallard Duck if you want to have value for money and want a change from the usual "modern cafe" environment.

We recently went to this restaurant for my husband’s birthday, although I had some reservations about going after reading the previous review. However I had an entertainment book voucher and some of the people meeting us lived close by and had young children.
We were seated overlooking a lake and there was a nice playground for the kids. The gardens had been cleaned up and were nice and shady and the outlook was lovely. Some of us had the duck special, it was very nice with a lovely gourmet salad and my son said his steak was cooked as he asked and was very tender. Apart from forgetting our entree - turkish bread with dips - it was overall a very pleasant meal and a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
