My partner had the 'slow cooked overnight' goat which was, to use a cliche, absolutely melt in the mouth. My meal was great too, the only regret that didn't choose the goat too! Been several times now, and always excellent.

Service:

Friendly, prompt and welcoming.

Ambience:

Cozy, if slightly daggy, but warm and relaxing. Italian cafe style.

Overall:
I have passed this restaurant many times, being a local, and have not thought to go there, as from outside it looks a bit dated. But that's just me being a snob. It's lovely and friendly and warm inside and the food is great. We have now become regulars. Try it! (and the goat)

Lack of choice resulted in two of us sharing a pizza. It had minimal topping and the base did not taste home made. The food was very bland!! Not what you would expect from authentic Italian!!

Service:

Slow! Not very helpful...

The restaurant looks the part with lovely decorations and a good Italian atmosphere. It was a shame the food was not up to this standard!

Overall:
My wife and I picked this restaurant of the internet as a well reviewed authentic Italian restaurant.Upon arrival it appeared we had come to just that.Very tastefully decorated and obviously run by an Italian family. We found the menu choice very limited and over priced. We ended up sharing a pizza out of lack of choice and were very dissapointed with food quality, taste and presentation. The service was slow and not to friendly.Soft drinks were small and overpriced 4fold.The pizza lacked topping.

The food was excellent!! Perfect sizing to really enjoy a 3 course meal with beverages.

Service:

Hard to say as when we arrived at 6.30pm on a Wednesday night we were the only one's there, but staff were attentive, chef asked about the food, and was all in all great service. Food came when we requested it to arrive

Ambience:

Beautiful setting, lovely music in the background which wasn't too loud so you could enjoy a conversation with the people at your table.

Overall:
Would recommend to anybody wanting to enjoy an authentic Italian restaurant. Great food, service and the pricing was quite reasonable for what you got. A great night out.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this. The location is not great but once you are in there it's quite nice. The food was fresh and the menu quite different with an impressive range of specials. A pleasant change from the other Italian restaurants along Albany highway! Matilda's also does not feel like they need to serve hideous sized portions to impress diners, again a pleasant change! I actually ate all of my meal!! Prices were reasonable and service was also quite good. Will definitely be back.

Loved the pizzas and cosy atmosphere. The pizzas were beautiful with crisp thin bases and appropriate restraint with the toppings. The service was friendly and the restaurant was comfortable and welcoming. Nonna looks over the restaurant from a photo on the wall. She would be pleased.

My wife and I chose to attend Matilda's due to it being in the entertainment book. We were pleasantly surprised by the look of the place when we arrived. I give top marks for their effort in attempting to give the place a cosy feel. All that was missing was a little candle on each of the tables.

For starter we had bread with olive oil and balsamic. The quantity of balsamic and oil was a not sufficient. Upon request the waitress was happy to go and fill it back up free of charge. The style of bread was slightly stale which may or may not be to peoples taste.

For mains we had the gnocchi and tagliatelle. The quality of the gnocchi was very good and I appreciated the slow cooked meat in the sauce (missing from many other italian restaurants). The tagliatelle chicken was also great with a lovely cream sauce.

Service was not too much and not too little which is how I like it.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others wishing to eat good Italian food in a good atmosphere.

We picked the restaurant from the new entertainment book and then came here to this website to read the reviews. The first 2 were not very complimentary however having driven past the restaurant and liking the look of it we decided to give it a go. I am so pleased we did. I defy anyone to find a more authentic looking Italian Restaurant in Perth. From the cosy interior, soft lighting which created a perfect ambiance and check tablecloths, together with the bouncy Italian background music and fantastic food we had a terrific evening. We arrived early at 6.30 and by 8pm the place was packed which added to the great atmosphere. The waitresses were busy but looked unstressed and always had a smile on their faces. I don't know where the person who complained about the prices in an earlier review was used to eating but I thought the prices very reasonable for the quality and presentation. We will certainly recommend to other friends and will return ourselves very soon.

A very good Italian style restaurant, with excellent food, and quite good service. The meals are a good size, and the pasta is excellent.

We have had two meals there, and my wife is ready to go back in a flash. The owners take a hands-on approach to customers, and the place has a friendly, Italian home-style feel to it.

As with many restaurants, they can get very busy and slow .. and when full, you usually get placed on the tables out front, where you are more exposed to passing vehicle noise, and wind .. which is not the best, if it's cold.

The management is usually happy to re-seat customers if they aren't happy with the seating they choose initially.

My wife and I often (wisely) decline to enter restaurants that are bursting at the seams. You just KNOW that you'll be waiting a considerable length of time to get served .. and you often end up with disappointing meals from hassled chefs.

All in all, Matilda's is a most enjoyable dining experience, and I'll go back anytime.

What a lovely restaurant. Good service and great food, and a genuine concern for the customers. We had cocktails last night as well, and they were mixed so smoothly! I would recommend this to anyone especially for big groups - very cheery atmosphere there.

The restaurant has a traditional Italian feel to it with what appears to be an entire family working in the restaurant together. Lovely music on and the food was beautiful. I will be going back a lot more.
