Overall:
Although mainly a takeaway store, Ming Fast Food is one of those little gems hidden away in suburbia. Open for lunch and dinner, they mainly cater for dinner takeaways and dine in lunch specials. On our last few visits before moving east it still continues to impress.
This place is little more than a shopfront and kitchen though, so there is only room for a single large round table and about 3 smaller tables.
The takeaway menu is standard fare, you have your fried rice and your sweet and sour pork etc. They also have a small selection of bbq roast meats in the display cabinet around early afternoon.
The thing that makes this particular takeaway stand out for me is their lunch specials. Aswell as the usual array of satay, sweet and sour, stirfry + rice combos for about $6.50, for a dollar more they have a selection of noodle dishes that aren't actually on the takeaway menu unless you request it. Unfortunately if your chinese is a little bit sketchy(like mine!), you may have trouble reading this lunch menu as it isn't in english on the wall menus, but it does have the pin yin names on the laminated menus. Fear not! simply ask the lady owner to explain what they are and she will happily oblige, some of them are listed in english on the chalkboard outside and on the chalkboard behind the counter already. My favourite, the san xi chow mein, consists of thin egg noodles that have been deep fried and then covered with a delicious gravy consisting of a generous amount of squid, bbq pork, chinese mushrooms(I think they are called shiitake?) and mung bean sprouts. The noodles soften as they absorb the gravy so you have this wonderful combination of crunchy and soft noodles. Other noodle dishes include hor fun with egg sauce or seafood egg sauce, kway teow, noodles with yin yang sauce. And just because its a lunch special doesn't mean they skimp on the serving either. The plates are big and are covered from edge to edge. Tea is served from little flasks rather than tea pots, but it makes for less spillage when pouring.
No frills, top noodles and, above all, it’s clean.
Every time we have been, there's always been someone else here having a meal, usually some local chinese retirees which is always a good sign of quality authentic chinese food.
