Welcome to Miss Maud Swedish Restaurant

Miss Maud Swedish Restaurant

In 1971 I introduced Perth to the Swedish Smörgåsbord. Tables groaning with all kinds of delicacies that would tempt and delight every taste. I insisted then, as I do now, that only the freshest and best quality foods be served from my table. With over 60 dishes to savour and enjoy, we have become famous for our gastronomic extravagance and our warm and friendly hospitality.
Please, come and allow us to indulge, serve and entertain you with the magic of Miss Maud.

Opening Times We are open 365 days a year from 7am till late

We took my step-daughter there for her birthday, seeing as her favourite food is prawns. I think the food selection on the smorgasboard is great for adults, but not so great for smaller children. No hot pasta selection and no chips for little kids. It's hard to try and get them to eat roast meats and potato when you take them out for a meal. The service wasn't the best either. When we were sat at our table, no one came back and asked if we'd like any drinks. I think the selection is greater at Sizzler and a lot cheaper!

I have had the opportunity to dine at Miss Maud for dinner in the past and the buffet spread has always been sumptuous for a very affordable price of $25, which includes tea and coffee. On Christmas Eve the selection was limited with not as many hot dishes and cakes, but there was a turkey and ham for the occasion. The hot food was delicious, especially the potato and anchovy dish. With the cold food, the oysters did not seem particularly fresh. The night started out great, there were bon-bons on the tables and a Mr and Mrs Claus entertaining the children, but as soon as Santa departed, it appeared the good mood disappeared with him. The live entertainment - an old gentleman on keyboard who sings and invites other guests up with him to sing - is daggy and good natured, but overstepped the line on this occasion when he started to over-harass the guests. A few tables started to leave at this point and so did we.

Miss Maud's serves deliciously homely food such as Swedish meatballs, casseroles and roasts combined with all their famous cakes, but next time we return it will be during the day or we will ask for a quiet table up the back.

Thanks to Miss Maud’s Kids Club of a complimentary buffet for the birthday child (in our case our 2 oldest kids) and the RAC members special at that time of a 15% discount (still current, I think), we could afford to indulge in the most scrumptious dinner buffet spread.

After being shown to our table, the kids’ eyes lit up when presented with a bag of goodies and a helium balloon! The food was so good that the entertainer who I must say was pretty good was not even applauded a single time! My then 14mth old also paid testament to how yummy the food was as to our surprise he sat still for an hour merely over pumpkin soup, cauliflower cheese and the cakes.

The cold section had the usual salads and ham together with fresh oysters, prawns, yabbies, mussels and even cold or pickled fish. There were also two types of roast with potatoes, pumpkins and other roasted vegies. The hot section continued around the corner with another delightful 5-6 choices including cauliflower cheese, pasta and Asian stir fry. It has been half a year now and my memory fails on the details but my salivary glands definitely recall how tantalising the food tasted. It was oh, just so, so good. Just thinking of it makes me want to go back again. One thing for sure I remember was that I was a glutton. (This is partly why I chose piggy as my signature on the EatingWA website). Already bloated & stuffed and not even being a sweets person, I just could not go past their cakes. If only they made them bite size rather than the impressive huge slices. Somehow, through sharing we managed to indulge in quite a few types. My daughter particularly loved the princess slice (the one with green marzipan). And to completely finish off the meal, there was an impressive range of specialty teas and I opted for the peach tea.

Although, crowded on a weekday night, I don’t recall having to queue to get the food. Plates were also promptly cleared and as mentioned before, there was the entertainment added in. Come to think of it, this probably helped distract little bub too.
Thank goodness baby finally fidgeted as I was wistfully hoping my digestive juices would work quickly and I could return for more. Without a doubt, wear your loosest clothing.

Regarding Smorgasbord Breakfasts, $19.95

The only thing that this place possibly doesn't have going for it is the high price. But if you can spare some time and take breakfast over the whole period of 6:45 - 10:00am, you really get a large morning tea in for the same price and won't need lunch or afternoon tea! It's a great way to spend the morning with your friends - come in early, chat, eat, chat some more while your food digests, eat some more, chat some more...

The selection of breakfast food is excellent - cereal, fruit, yoghurt, juice, coffee, Danishes, pancakes (maple syrups, cream and blueberries!), eggs, toast, bacon, tomatoes, sausages, hash browns, croissants, muffins... and occasionally more!

Plus the ambience of the place is great - lovely Swedish decor and soft background music.

Even as povo uni students, we managed to make time and money for one of these breakfasts at the start of each semester. It's certainly a great place to go.

Very friendly and attention to detail was great. I had mentioned that we hoped to arrive at the time we elected but may be delayed if my husband's plane was late as we were picking him up from the airport - when we arrived this had been noted with our reservation!

Lovely choice of smorgasbord food. Our teenagers selected from the a la carte menu and had beautiful meals.

The music duo were very entertaining and did not interfere with conversation at the table.

Great for families of all ages.

When you have all you can eat seafood, carvery, hot food and sweets for dinner, you can't beat that! The quality of the food was excellent and the service was great. The live entertainment wasn't bad either. Highly recommended!!
