BYO

A Japanese resturant sitting in the middle of a quiet suburb. It's decor while spartan is nevertheless kept clean and tidy.

Located on Belvidere Str (near to the Belmont Kebabs and Turkish Bread), it's menu is fairly priced with entrees ranging from $2 (salad) to $8.5 (Okonomiyaki).

Sushi rolls are a flat $4.5 for 5 pieces and $9 for 10 pieces.

Different types of Udon noodles are available from $5.5 (Plain) to $9.5 (Tempura Udon).

Main courses consist of teriyaki dishes ranging from $5.5 to $8.5 (Chicken, beef, tofu and fish). Tempura dishes are vegetables, prawns and mixed ($7 to $12.50)

Donburi dishes includes chicken, oyako and omelet. They come in 2 sizes - small ($5-$6) and large ($7.5-$8.5)

All large mains are served with rice, miso soup and garden salads. Small mains only get the rice.

There are also various other combination of sushi available.

There are no baby chairs available here so people with bubs might want to consider takeaway.

All drinks cost $1.50 and they actually have Pokka Japanese green tea which is a hard to come by drink (usually imported).

Opening Times Monday to Saturday 11.30am - 2.30pm then 5.30pm - 8.30pm
Sunday 5pm - 8pm

Food is fresh, fast and fantastic, never disappointed and great value for money. Tempura is light and very healthy serves, Salad has a very tasty dressing. Sashimi generous portions for price and very fresh. Teriyaki beef a little dry and not a tender cut of meat but no complaints about anything else

Service:

Extremely friendly staff

Ambience:

Mainly get take away, is lit a bit too brightly but is clean with some nice touches here and there. Nothing flash, I suggest they get some dimmers installed and it will be full every night!

Overall:
Would recommend (and have) to anyone

Whilst I can't say we've eaten everything on the menu (yet), we have been very impressed by everything that we've tried. Many of the dishes seem to come with miso soup, rice, and occasionally salad (even if they don't explicitly say "set"), so be prepared for extra rice and miso soups to be served if you've selected food to share (we almost always seem to get 1 more miso soup than we have people and occasionally several more bowls of rice). When we were there last night a lady ordering takeaway checked her food very carefully as she was sure they had given her someone else's order too. You may get more food than you bargained on, but the style of this restaurant means that you can easily go up and order more (unless it's takeaway :-) ).

Service:

The service is *great*, but it's also a little unusual. Expect to be dealing with someone who doesn't speak much English, expect to pay when you order, and expect to have the chef bring your meals out when the other people are busy. Relax, enjoy -- it's like eating in a foreign country!

Ambience:

What ambiance? (kidding). When arrive the first time at this restaurant it looks like a cheap cafe in a dodgy part of town. (I live near this restaurant and *I* live in a dodgy part of town). As you eat there you realize how much ambiance is generated by the staff. I actually love it there now.

Overall:
We were taken there by some friends who have a Japanese neighbor that rated this the best Japanese food she had eaten in Perth. We were delighted by the quality and value. We, in turn, took some friends of ours that lived in Japan for a couple of years. They were also very impressed and commented on how much it was like eating in some of the places they had frequented while in Japan. Our opinion is that it's on par with anything we've had in Perth (and we eat Japanese food a lot).

Food:

Fresh, enough and satisfying.
Very reasonably priced, and where else do you get sushi and have to wait for it being made for you. MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm

Service:

Extra friendly. I must learn to say "thank you" in Japanese

Ambience:

Quiet, very clean, nothing special, that's what I like about it. Ambience is an abstract thing. I gave it 2 stars and I hope it always will stay the same. Its perfect.

Overall:
I always look forward to going to this establishment. The friendly reception and service, the cheerful and genuine "thank you" when you leave. I recommend it to anyone wanting a taste of Japan. Even the Japanese eat here.

Me and my partner looking for a cheap feed and we thought we would try this place out. beats going into the city for some jap eats. The restaurant isn't fancy, but you can bypass that because the food is real yummie, cheap and you just can't beat the friendly service. For those who love TAKAS in the city, this has the same feel. The prices are very similar and the food, i may say, is slightly better. Its definitely fresh! I had the tempura udon ( tempura sauce will cost you an extra buck ) and my partner had the Japanese katsu curry. It looked like a small portion to him, but the curry was surprisingly filling.

Service:

can not beat the service. very attentive staff, and very happy to accomodate any need you like. our beef tatiki entree took a while and they apologised for the wait, we weren't too fussed as we were digging into our mains, and it was tatiki, you can understand why it takes a while to prepare.

Ambience:

There is probably no ambience, its just your humble local restaurant run by a small family. But it has a raw cosy feel about it, and there are tables to sit down and eat if takeaway isn't your thing. plus there are plenty of magazines to read.

Overall:
This place will be my regular haunt for all those nights im lazy to fight for parking in the city going to TAKAS. parking is very easy, its in a quiet Belmont neighbourhood and... they have eftpos!! this place has plenty of regular customers, and i can see why.

Went with a good mate of mine, both of us having traveled to Japan before for business. We shared 5 dishes, the Tataki, Kalaage, Okonomiyaki, Garden Salad (with extra dressing) and Chicken Sushi Rolls. All dishes came out fresh, tasty and just a delight. As someone who takes his Japanese food seriously, this place was such a welcome relief...for me, the Okonomiyaki was a taste sensation.

Service:

Very friendly staff who could not do enough to help. It is nice to be in a Japanese eating house and actually be served by Japanese people.

Ambience:

This is your typical Japanese eatery, very simple, sturdy wooden tables, minimal decorations...you come here for the great food, not to be wowed by the table settings.

Overall:
I look forward to making Momiji a weekly favourite...I am so happy that a traditional, low-key, high quality Japanese eating house has opened in Belmont.

This is an update on my previous review. Since the first review, have revisited Momiji a fair few times (for research purposes of course) and have slowly worked our way through most of the menu.
Results? We have found no fault at all. The food is consistently fresh, well made and absolutely delicious.
Dishes that rate a mention and are definitely worth a try: beef tataki, okonomiyaki, karaage chicken, any of the sushi and sashimi (so fresh! The fish melts in your mouth), any of the udons, and the una don (eel - if you're that way inclined!). Best miso soup I've had in Perth, and a salad dressing that I could drink. Just fantastic.

Service:

Really friendly staff! Always cheery and helpful. No request is too much - they really look after you.

Ambience:

Since my last review, have dined in a few times. Yes, it is spartan but I think that's part of its charm. It's a very comfortable space - there's no feeling of awkwardness, or that you're imposing on the staff + the space. Good to pop in for a casual lunch or dinner.

Overall:
Great, great, great. Slowly becoming our substitute for cooking...

Fantastic! So unexpected

We ordered a large chicken teriyaki and large chicken katsu. Both came with a fresh, fresh salad and miso soup. Both meals were larger than expected, and hence satisfied the boy (Japanese food always seems to leave him hungry), and I had to save mine for lunch the next day.

Can't wait to try their sushi and sashimi. Very reasonably priced.

Service:

Great service - helpful. No mess, no fuss. Very efficient.

Ambience:

Very spartan and clean. Not the place for a romantic dinner but great for a quick lunch or dinner (if you're in the area that is!). It's down the quiet end of Belvidere Street so it alone, shines bright in the night! I'd probably suggest getting takeaway though.

Overall:
Really glad we finally decided to try it out! Have walked and driven past so many times! Great food - delicious, fresh and great value for money. Great, lazy alternative to cooking or (ergh) fast food.

This quaint little casual dining Japanese restaurant in the middle of Belmont is an absolute gem in what seems to be a sparse dessert insofar as good restaurants and takeaway food places go, (being the Belmont/Rivervale area).

I must recommend the tuna sashimi here - it is so FRESH and so DELICIOUS!

In fact everything I have tried at this little place has been really (and quite surprisingly for its location) very good.

Everything has been extremely fresh and cooked perfectly (for cooked dishes such as tempura, or teriyaki).

Dishes to note:

- Tuna sashimi - top quality fresh tuna sashimi
- Beef tataki - delicious lightly seared thinly sliced beef
- Chicken katsu - yummy crumbed chicken with katsu sauce
- Teriyaki tofu - big pieces of fresh teriyaki tofu
- Garden salad - light and fresh (almost coleslaw like) with a yummy Japanese dressing!

They're open for 7 days which is really handy and their prices are very reasonable!

I love this place and highly recommend it to all in this area - if you haven't tried it - give it a go!
