The mains menu is a meat and seafood lovers delight with dishes such as jamaican style pork belly, crispy skin spatchcock and grilled fish of the day. the seafood is a real highlight with freshly shucked oysters, smoked slamon, usually some variet of whole baked fish, local large size king prawns, local blue swimmer crabs.. always a tasty curry on offer, occasional lamb cutlets or marinated sirloin, gourmet yum-cha etc etc etc!!
fantastic service, smiling faces everywhere
unique, relaxed experience unlike every other buffet i have been to.. usually in house hotel guests occupy the majority of the restaurant making for a quiet, enjoyable experience
Overall:
this passionate over eater just keeps on coming back to the best buffet in town..
Overall:
The first time I went to Montereys around four years ago it was definitely the best buffet in Perth. I was highly impressed with the warm atmosphere, the chef cooking up a wok in the display and the large selections of foods. I went again two years ago and the wok had disappeared and the selection was decidedly smaller and we were forced to purchase half a lobster each with the buffet. Well, I went with a group on an early Sunday evening and I am afraid that the new renovations might have just been the last kiss of death.
The new décor is all yellow wood panelling and white Corian and it felt like we were sitting in a super sterile environment akin to a laboratory or inside an igloo. Strangely enough it looks like the budget was blown on the entrance and food serving area and the rest of the room still much had the original look. The food was also quite dodgy with half-cooked rice, wilted green salad and less than fresh tasting prawns. This might have something to do with the fact it was early and a Sunday, but surely does not explain the rock hard bread? The service though was top notch, props to the maitre d and the desserts bar provided a nice selection, and the turkey in a butter sauce and steamed vegies absolutely delicious, but it was rather a glum experience. At the end of the night everyone was pushing forward their entertainment cards with the insistence that theirs be used because they were not likely to come back. At around $40 per head including a drink this was a good price for buffet, but the experience did not deserve more.
Very disappointed! If this renovations is costing millions then they should have just got the Better Home & Gardens interior decorating team to whip up a new look at under $800 and look much warmer and with more character!

Previous review states this is the best buffet in Perth and highly recommended. I would hate to see the worst. A rather large group of us went along for Fathers Day (evening). The soup was Carrot with a touch of mint and was very nice, servings of Ravioli which apparently were a little under cooked and hard. The seafood was just seafood nothing elaborate, prawns, oysters, bugs, salmon and some cold chilli mussels. The spring rolls, crumbed chicken/fish and chips etc were as dry and tough as a boots and looked like it had been sitting there from lunch time. Given the occasion and the amount of families who had/were eating, I would have expected more children friendly food that was edible. The other dishes again were not anything fantastic, so un-fantastic I can't really remember what they all were - roasted root vegies, rice dish, potato dish - !!Now to the service - My big gripe here is they had no cutlery available. The waitress took the plates and cutlery from the table and never replaced them. We had to ask for more knives and forks, which the waitress had to go and get out of a draw. There was none around the buffet as we checked and asked the chef. The dessert again very average - nothing with the wow factor - which one would expect from the Sheraton. All in all for the price we was not overly impressed.
Overall:
Though it is going through extensive renovation worth a few million. The Sheraton has moved Monterey’s into the old Origins it is still worth going to. An all you can eat buffet at around $60.00 per person for dinner which consists of fresh prawns, fresh and plump oysters, squid salad, sushi, smoked salmon, different kind of salads, roasts, fish, lobster, hot vegies, antipasti, cheeses, delectable desserts!!I could go on and on. Great service, beautiful setting and a fantastic wine buffet for an extra $18.Had a wonderful night. Can’t wait to see what it’ll be like after the renovations. Two thumbs up!
